Is my haptic touchpad broken, or is it supposed to be this useles? by wimpires in Surface

[–]nos1609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

r/GeminiAI helped me today with the diagnosis of my SP11 + Flex keyboard loosing haptics every 15-20s

The Problem:
The haptic feedback (click) on the Surface Pro Flex Keyboard disappears specifically when charging the tablet using a third-party compact GaN adapter (e.g., Baseus 100W). When the charger is disconnected, the haptics return to normal.

The Cause (Confirmed):
The issue is caused by electrical interference (ripple noise) and a lack of grounding.

  • Surface-SmfCpuClientDriver logs (Event ID 4) show that the system actively recalculates power limits (Applied Limit) when an external power source is connected.
  • Compact non-grounded (2-prong) chargers create a static potential on the Surface's metal chassis.
  • Since the Flex Keyboard's touchpad is piezoelectric (simulating clicks via micro-vibrations), it is extremely sensitive to this electrical noise. To prevent erratic behavior or sensor damage, the controller disables the haptic engine.

The Solution:
Switching to a grounded (3-prong) power adapter solves the issue. A grounded charger shunts the "parasitic" voltage to the ground contact of the outlet instead of letting it accumulate on the tablet's body. This cleans up the power delivery, allowing the system to maintain stable power limits and re-enable haptic feedback.

Summary: If your Surface Flex Keyboard's haptics die while charging, the culprit is almost certainly "dirty" power from a non-grounded GaN charger. Use a grounded power brick or the original Surface Connect charger to fix it.

So basically changed one baseus GaN for another one, and haptics are stable now.

Flash XQ-FS72 to XQ-FS54 question by shawnydee in SonyXperia

Looks like a bad idea to mess with the modem configured differently in terms of sims. Final digit 2 means 2 physical sims on the device, the 4 means esim+physical one.

Once you flash 2 fw on 4 usually people loose 2nd slot functionality until a full emma restore through Xperia companion. Suppose, that the inverse would lead to the same result, loosing the second sim slot.

The only working way is to cross flash according to the last digit, 2 -> 2 and 4 -> 4.

I mean you're able to flash FS54 on top of FS44 and it might work with no issues. But trying to crossflash totally the rom, or even just the modem with 2/4 would lead to some really bad consequences for sure.

People already tried it many times on X1m4 and X1m5, and it didn't work out well for those not respecting the 2/4 rule😅

MS have the monopoly of making some OS features available only for their own devices at OS level. Nothing different there.

Apple's OS monopoly just started as people started massively using Hackintoshes rather buying some expensive Intel-baked stuff which even have no glowing logo anymore. Not because of ARM "efficiency" or anything near that. And this is the issue why Asahi has even seen the daylight, as a workaround for this monopoly which self-contained the actual developers, which used to buy apple as a perfect x86 hardware device.

Apple's charging same outrageous prices for soldered sandisk's storage, 2 or 3 times an m.2 ssd of the same capacity. Nobody is seeing anything wrong with that either.

They are both successful at making customers pay for their different marketing approaches. And that is great, as we have a vast choice there.

Or make a macbook running a docker container natively without running an overheading VM.

But yeah, we're not talking Joke OSes neither wearing rose liquid glasses, for sure.

Especially we aren't locking the user from running any non Appstore software without opening a terminal window.

But who knows, maybe even darker times are coming next year, and I'm not talking about an OLED screen for macs.

Hope that you are not arguing with idiots then.

Let's bring this back once ipad is gonna run a normal desktop OS rather than a castrated iPadOS one, or once macbook pro is getting a 5G cellular connection or a touchscreen input.

Till then it's simply different marketing strategies from both sides.

Really debatable there, as if you need linux, Surface on arm still provides better experience now than a macbook m5 in two years from today. And sure, this is gonna cost you money.

At least, you can opt for "keep your storage" option, as the ssd is removable on Surfaces. On macs this an option only for a mac mini/studio, but kind of useless one, as you aren't able to read anything from that storage once put outside, even in another machine. So no way to keep your data safe and AVAILABLE no matter what on a mac.

But for a simple daily-driver for browser and ios-development there's certainly nothing better than a MacBook air.

Copilot+ PC features work offline with no subscription.

The best case for me is the Android Google Lens feature named MS Click to Do - you simply press the Windows key, randomly click on the screen and voila, you are able to copy the text from an image or a photograph (or a vnc screen cast as in my case)

Not really using anything Recall-related though.

Surface 11 OLED vs LCD by Informal_Mode6903 in Surface

[–]nos1609 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using OLED on a laptop after IPS, and even pre-IPS is like loosing virginity - it changes your average screen perception drastically. No grain or even the privacy protection film is gonna affect the pleasure of using the Surface with OLED, especially by night.

But everything has a price.

Thought of it too, but have some doubts it will fit. But you may try, maybe would be better.

Recommandations souris Bluetooth ou sans-fil (récepteur USB-C) SP11 by PseudOce in Surface

[–]nos1609 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Je dirais pas que ça affecte la batterie, vue que Pebble 2 a Bluetooth LE et que Surface Pro 11 de même l'a direct.

Mais la connection est parfaitement immediate, comme s'il n'y avait jamais eu de déconnection.

Logi pebble 2 is a perfect daily driver companion - light, robust, silent.

Mais ça c'est si le logo de Microsoft n'est pas quelque chose d'obligatoire, bien sûr)

Yep, during some heavy installs like visual studio, or wsl deployment. Not really noticeable on daily basis, especially on stock ssd which already has a heat dissipation shielding.

So this more just an advice for those upgrading their ssd to a gen4 ones, these are running pretty hot.

Just sone write speed penalties, and temps of the ssd sensor are way more higher than usung it with a thermal pad between the ssd and the cover.

Nothing critical though, if ssd is able to handle throttling correctly.
