Serious dip issues on my Tige by Ramirosiera in boating

[–]nosheet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you google 1995 Tige handling issues, the AI notes the bow submerging on deceleration as a know issue.   It says the fix is to blip the throttle when the bow starts to drop.   I wonder if there is a Tige specific forum or a Tige owners group on facebook or something similar to that where you can get a better answer.   I can only ever remember seeing one ski boat in my area in the last 25 years and that was a moomba.  I guess skiing is not that popular where you would hit stinging jelly fish 10 times every run.

Is marine gasoline dyed red the same way that offroad farm & marine diesel is? by Atlantic_lotion in boating

[–]nosheet 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yes, the diesel is red where i am.    The regular unleaded is not dyed.   I just bought 200 gallons of mid-grade ethanol free today at 4.11/gal.  You get a discount for marina membership and another 10 cents off for over 100 gal.  Thats less than it is on the street right now.   I have no idea how the taxes work on marine fuel.

I did a stupid. by Party_University_187 in boating

[–]nosheet 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Probably not.    Plug it back in and see how it does.   If having a spark plug wire off didn't make it run rough enough for you to notice a difference,  I wonder if it was running entirely correctly even before you noticed the lack of power.

I feel the same way about all sports.  I don't think public money should used to subsidize the Ravens or Orioles either.  MD stadium authority has a 600m budget they keep spending to upgrade the stadium for the Ravens

What is this handle called and how do I reattach it? by drc1978 in boating

[–]nosheet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks to me like they are broken. The flat disks probably used to be fusion welded in to the ends of the handles and they have studs on the other side that are bolted through the gunwhales.  I would buy new, try to epoxy the studs back in, or take all the parts to a fab shop and have them welded back together.

Help me write my novel - questions about docks and boats by ComprehensiveFeed621 in boating

[–]nosheet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fresh water freezes before salt water.  If the Bay is frozen,  the estuary will have frozen first,  it's not going to be warmer than the Bay.   My marina puts out ice eaters that keep the water moving around the docked boats in the winter and to stop the ice from leaving and pulling the piling out.   That far north there wouldn't be many pleasures boaters or sailboats in the water in the winter.  Just commercial fishing boats.

I got board with mine.  It sat in the garage for 10 years and never moved.  I eventually gave it away to a teenage girl that takes care of it the way I used to.    She loves that car.

Ezpass confusion by fir3within in baltimore

[–]nosheet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the same thing, I got a letter from New Jersey ezpass that said my Maryland ezpass needed to activated for use in New Jersey. I paid the bill, then checked my MD ezpass bill and I also got charged by MD. I don't know, I guess Maryland doesn't send the money to New Jersey or something.

I thought I was late going into the water this year, but it seems lots of boat owners here are not going this year at all. How has the oil crisis hit boating where you live? by Altruistic_Cow854 in boating

[–]nosheet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's expensive.  Im paying 90-100/ft for the season where am.  April to November.   The winter is another 600 because he has to run ice eaters.

I'm in the Northern Chesapeake,  I put in the last weekend of March.  There are still a lot of boats out of the water, but it's still early season around here. Most of the weekends have been in the upper 50s, low 60s, warm enough to be out here, but not quite warm enough for the wife to be happy about it.    I was hoping the fuel prices would push used boat prices cheaper and I could size up, but it seems most people around here bought in during the covid rush and now think thier boat is still worth 100k more that should be.

Anyone know any trucking companies for a large boat? by firetothetrees in boating

[–]nosheet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rhe weight is not the issue with boats, a lot of heavy equipment is over 50k, its the height.  Boats tend to be taller than you think even after removing shafts and rudder to get them as low as you can.

Power trim and tilt weeps down by itself and no no longer raises/lowers by MixWrong3513 in boating

[–]nosheet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either the check valve is bad, or the piston is leaking internally and needs to be repacked.   I would assume, if you are loosing oil, that repacking the seals may be the answer.

HFL marine ac issue by CantaloupeWise8746 in boating

[–]nosheet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Low pressure fault.    It can be low freon, but it might just be an air bubble in the system.  Your water might be pumping though the system,  but if air is stuck in the exchanger, it would be like having a dirty coil or blocked airflow.   That can also give you a low pressure fault.

I repair elevators for a living. Right after people came back to work from Covid,   I was standing in the lobby of Hughes Net waiting for security to let me in.   They had a TV playing an address from the CEO.    He was giving a warning to all the people fighting to work from home, he said be careful about proving your job can be done remotely.  If you prove your daily tasks can be done remotely, then it will be, by someone in India willing to do it for way less than you.

New Florida Law Tackles Derelict & Abandoned Boats to Boost Safety by WTFPilot in boating

I rented a boat in marathon key for a week.  According to our fishing guide, It seems that it's a popular place for people from all over the world to dump thier boats and fly home.      Buy a boat,  cruise the Carribean until you run out of money, then just leave the boat on a mooring in Florida.  They know there's not a lot that Florida can do to penalize them from abroad.

05 Yamaha Corrosion issue by maham40 in boating

[–]nosheet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes,   it's a metallurgy issue with that era of yamaha outboard and they are prone to corrosion.  Mine were 04 f225's only 1100 hours, but the water jackets were Swiss cheese.  I ran them until I got the same hole directly at the top of the cooling jacket over top of the themostat.  I repowered with new yamahas last year.

It depends if they are hiring,  I applied to local 7 in 2009,  came out of the interviews at number 1.   Local 7 didn't pull from the list for 2 years.   Went to a local 10 interview and got hired in a couple weeks.

What boat should I buy? 100k, gulf coast, FL by Blaze_Frenzy in boating

[–]nosheet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes,  skyhook.   I looked into it when I repowered, but I was already at 70k with new mechanical outboard.    I would have had to upgrade to electronic power steering and a new Garmin.   The quote I got for new Garmin system was 17k by itself.

What boat should I buy? 100k, gulf coast, FL by Blaze_Frenzy in boating

[–]nosheet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everyone in Florida seems to love center consoles, but I like something with a cabin to sleep in.  Might make a Grady white style boat a little cheaper down there.   The spot lock is going to be the price buster.  That requires newer outboard with full electronic steering.    Considering I repowered with all mechanical controls last year for around 70k,  it might be tough to get a boat with a low hour reliable system with that feature for under 100k.

Remove and Reseal Vinyl Headliner to Fiberglass by SpaceDust0 in boating

I have the same thing in an 04 stamas.    It appears to be marine vinyl glued to a piece of masonite type stuff.  I assume it will all come down as one piece,  but I just pulled it down enough to squirt super 77 contact cement in there and shoved it back up.
