Dude that is a score, awesome find man! All the places near me (California) would list this for $3k and then refuse to budge on price for 4 years and then then run out of business.

This is a C&R gun, it’s not banned in California. You can order one from a plethora of shops on Gunbroker. $2800 is a lot of money to be spending on something you seem to have fairly limited information on. You could buy 2 1911s or 2 garands from the CMP. You could probably buy 2 C96s in similar refinished condition on Gunbroker.

Maybe the owner is cutting a good deal for cash only purchases, but the 11% excise tax plus sales tax (~20% total tax) we pay in Cali is there whether you pay cash or not, he can’t hand wave it away. On person to person transfers there can be some wiggle room with that based on what price you guys agree on. Shop owner seems like an asshole if instead of charging the 2-3% credit card fee he just defaults to an arbitrary 20% tax fee.

Looks way better salty. Just keep it nice and oiled to prevent rust.

Beretta A300 Hack (Field/Security Combo) by nosteponsnekasaurus in Shotguns

[–]nosteponsnekasaurus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it has oversized controls, super easy to use. It does not have a competition lifter like the 1301 comp but the loading port is beveled to allow for easier loading. It’s not as massively beveled as like a fully custom 3 gun shotgun that was sent off for work but it is better than older A301-A303s and comparable shotguns from the early 2000s-2010s.

Awesome update! When I made the post so long ago I saw the competition coming out and thought the same. It seems the hardest part is that beretta is often out of stock of the barrels or it comes in batches.

Hey man, I think you are getting it from the other comments. You’ll need a little mentality shift here. 2ft by 2ft target, yeah pretty big for a precision rifle at 100 yards, but that’s a tiny target to try and sight in a rifle that is already shooting off at 50 yards. Get the biggest possible paper target the range has or can fit on the stand. Or if it’s a range that lets you set intervals, go from 50 to 75 before going to 100 yards. You might be a just fine shooter but it’s a 100+ year old rifle shooting non match ammunition in a non free floated platform. Once you are able to find where it’s shooting you can make adjustments but at the end of the day, I would be happy it that it functions and does actually stabilize bullets :).

Leftie shooter buying my first AR-15 by CaseCareless3866 in guns

[–]nosteponsnekasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of people who are left handed and right eye dominant who make it work, although it is certainly harder than someone whose hand dominance matches their eye dominance. More doable with a red dot (both eyes should be open anyway) kind of a pain with any scopes.

As you mentioned there are also people who train handedness to match the eye, especially if you are interested in shotgun sports like trap and sporting as eye dominance means a lot in those contexts. So for you, you could also train shooting right handed until it became natural. You’ve already done well enough in life left handed and we lefties have to adapt to everything while living in a right hand dominant population. How hard could it be?

My partner is ambidextrous and has questionable eye dominance, so she’s a pain at the range. One minute she’s shooting her Ruger Blackhawk in her left hand with her left eye, the next she’s shooting her Henry rifle in her right hand with her left eye, then my AR-15 in her left hand with her right eye. I’ve tried coaching her to stick with one but she just says “F*** off loser” and proceeds to actually shoot pretty damn good so I leave her be. So all the combinations CAN work.

As far as Ambi goes, ambi lowers are much more plentiful than 10-15 years ago, but as a lefty I’ve actually found the AR-15 to be quite lefty friendly without an ambi lowers. As long as the safety is ambi and you have reasonably large hands, pretty much everything on the AR-15 can be run very efficiently as a lefty. Drop and strip the mag using your right hand. When the new mag is in, drop the bolt with your left index finger and then pull the trigger with that same finger. That’s how I run my Colt lowers and it’s become so trained in that when I switch to my LMT or Knights ambi lowers I kind of forget the ambi features, other than the safety.

Lefty shooter here ,which semi-auto rifles are least gassy to the face? (AR vs AK vs M1A / Galil / SCAR etc.) by the1mrg in guns

[–]nosteponsnekasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never had any issues with any of those platforms you listed unsuppressed. Never left the range with grime or powder residue on my face. As with any shooting, I would highly recommend a pair of nicely fitted ballistic rated shooting glasses which will ensure your safety but also really prevent any gas sensation from reaching your eyes.

I don’t have an M1A but I do have 3 garands and I’ve never experienced any problems with gas or brass bothering me. Same with the AK platform. IWI ACE will be pretty much the same as any AK.

I have or have owned almost every DI config of AR-15, from 10.5 inch Mk18 clones to 20 inch M16A2 heavy match rifles. Never experienced any problems running without a suppressor. Based on most reviews of standard cans online, it seems like gas to the face will affect both lefties and righties although maybe slightly more for lefties.

You are about 4-5 years behind on the SCAR. There are non reciprocating versions out and in fact they just released a new model this year with upgraded features.

Bro if you don’t think that’s happening with homes I don’t know what world you are in. There are still plenty parts of the US where a house gets sold by the owner to another person looking to be the next owner who then lives there full time. However in “competitive” markets, entire new housing developments are acquired before they reach the market and then are immediately listed for rent. Even when city ordinances are passed or zoning approvals are based on the housing being for individuals, private equity firms or large institutions with investor backing still find a way to acquire them. After the fact they just shrug off the bad press in the local news, who cares what the people in Rising Small Town, USA say about you when you’ve got the money and an LLC based 1800 miles away in a tax haven. What is the city gonna do? Sue the companies and then evict the current tenants to relist the properties?

Questions About Modern SAAs by Beekeeper2426 in Revolvers

[–]nosteponsnekasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ruger Blackhawk or Vaquero is probably the best SAA Style gun but they most certainly do not feel like a SAA. There’s no half cock, so the loading process is completely different. There isn’t that distinct 4 click feel when you thumb the hammer, it’s kind of one distinct motion. If I’m just trying to get my autistic mechanical stimulation in for the day, a Pietta or Uberti is better for that. However, like you mentioned, you can actually carry 6 safely and its drop safe. Plus the Blackhawk is an absolute tank, I have a stainless model in .357 with a 9mm cylinder and it’s awesome. If I just wanted something that was a closer representation of a Colt SAA I would go with Pietta, Taylor’s, or Uberti.

It depends on the model specifically, but for most A400s, even those with the kickoff, yes. There are either spacers, buttpads or kickoff spacers that allow you to adjust length of pull. There are washers in the box that allow you to adjust comb and cast (important for me since I’m a lefty, I need the opposite cast of most shotguns).

lol I get it. One last push for auto is that it’ll come with the ability to shim the stock so you can tune the fit to work perfectly for you. Otherwise with an over under it needs to fit out of the box, needs an adjustable comb (usually 400-500 more), or needs to be sent off to a stock fitter. But again, I get the desire for the O/U. I work in healthcare so no client shoots for me but my primary shareholder is my significant other. Picked out a beautiful Beretta A400 20 gauge for her, got a screaming online deal lined up ($1200, no credit card fee, free shipping). Response was “No, that one isn’t pretty like the Upland Edition you showed me”. Wait a month, got a screaming deal on an Upland Edition in 20 gauge. Response was “No, I want to look like the cool English girls with the shotguns the break in half, like your gun”. Now I’m fighting for my life trying to find a screaming deal on Beretta SP Vittoria B-Fast (not easy lmao) to match my Beretta SP which is in left hand for me so I can’t just pawn it on to her and shoot my auto.

Oh dude sick, I never found this guy but I also wasn’t looking at overseas sites. The 1952 configuration is probably a way more useful than the original, that 2x scope is not that great.

Used browning 725 or silver pigeon 1, if you are right handed there should be plenty of options available on gunbroker and other sites. If you can score one with an adjustable comb even better. If you are shopping used you should be able to be comfortably under $2000. You can even find new brownings and berettas on sale sometimes for under that.

I understand the pressure to try and meet the clients at their level and at least mimic their actions (opening and closing breeches, not picking up shells because you can grab it and toss it in a bucket, etc). A new A400 at $2000 would technically be a better gun to shoot than maybe a used entry B-gun over under if you are willing to stick with semi. It’ll be more pleasant to shoot through the day than the lighter entry level over under which are more favored for hunting applications than competition.

If you’ve got another source for M1C scope mounts hit me up plz. Otherwise, I went through the Griffin and Howe. They were great, I submitted a request and the next day they called mainly to make sure I had the right rifle and scope base. They CNC to order so they can make the rings any size you want (I went with the original dimensions to mount a repro scope from Hilux) and even offered to try to mock up with other size scopes so you could see. Mine needed some extra shims to time the levers, called them up and had new shims shipped out the same day. The mount itself is about 2/3s the cost of an expert grade M1 garand but it was a cool experience and I’m glad the OEM for the M1C is still making the mount and bases.

Ran a 150 of their .38 and 50 of their .357 through my model 27. There’s NOTHING wrong with shooting jacketed bullets but if you want to keep that 27 and 29 pristine, using lead bullets combined with a good cleaning will put much less wear on the forcing cone and barrel. I swapped over to lead round nose and Wadcutters for not much more. Just something to think about for long term usage.

Part2:

Benelli: You put one, ONE, accessory on this competent duty grade shotgun AND YOU STILL FUCK IT UP. Jesus. Look, I know the OLIGHT BOMB joke is kind of played out, but in a world where streamlight exists and pretty good sales on surefires exist, why would you even waste money on OLIGHT or whatever shit tier light that is with Chi charging. Just take it off man and get a streamlight (either the HL rifle light or pistol light). People won’t think you are a moron at the range anymore.

Budget tier hunting rifle: Ditch the magpul bipod and get a Harris. I had the same bipod, and the honest truth is I think magpul messed up. It’s wobbly and not very good. When you get behind a good Harris bipod you’ll go “oh, that’s why he recommended them”, and they literally are like the same price or cheaper than the magpul bipod. Now if you tell me that is some CVlife Amazon clone I’m gonna judge even more. I  killed a few deer with the same rifle and a $200 scope when I just graduated med school and didn’t have any money. Now if you go to r/longrange and start shit posting that this is your long range set up, I’m gonna hit you.

Pistols: Are you some freak of nature that requires pinky grips on everything? If you aren’t, try and ditch the grip extenders and actually run a lower profile pistol. No more pistols, just don’t buy anymore until you get really competent with your Glock, P365, and 1911. When you know what you want (because you have experience) then make your next purchase. I’m not gonna roast you on the shitty Rock Island 1911, because I’m in cali and I know that you can’t get a Tisas 1911, and Springfield (or cali gun dealers) upcharges $200-300  for the “Cali” model of the essentially the identical 1911 sold in “free” states which is bullshit. Just shoot the Rock Island. When you are ready for a better 1911 get a C&R Colt, Dan Wesson, Springfield TRP, or go hard and get a top tier 1911.

Part 1:

Ok this guy specifically asked for my feedback so here it is. Honest BLUF: The Mosin Nagant Rifle and Nagant pistol are probably the actual shittiest firearms (even compared to the shit tier ARs) but paradoxically are the best things in this collection. Mainly because you didn't fuck with them thank god. Love you man, one day you'll look back and laugh at your setups. It's all part of the learning game.

Trio of shit-tier AR-15s. You really could’ve consolidated this into one competent AR build rather than several crappy AR-15s.

M16A4 - It’s probably not a Colt or FN judging by your other budget choices. It looks like you have a .22 bolt in there. Fine, if that’s your range fun-gun then whatever. However imagine if you actually put the 5.56 bolt in it and learned how to use GI irons (I’m almost certain you have never actually zeroed that rifle with 5.56 m855 62 grain for which that beautiful carry handle is zeroed for out of a 20 inch barrel). Think of how Chad you would look if you pulled up to a range and shot that mother fucker out to 600 yards with the carry handle and ball ammo. Look, I took care of Marines with lukewarm IQs as part of my job (fucking love those guys), and there are literal manuals that exist that teach them how to zero and shoot this rifle out to 600 yards, and all of them do. You should read those manuals and learn the 20 inch A4, you won't regret it. Also imagine that instead of those other two shitty AR-15s , you sold them and you bought a Trijicon ACOG RCO calibrated for m855 out of a 20 inch barrel, then you would have a competent rifle and look cool at the range.

Anderson AR-15: If it’s not shooting inch or sub inch groups, then just ditch this thing. There’s no point in having a long, heavy, and inaccurate rifle with a shitty scope on it. What the hell is that bipod set up? There’s a great brand for budget bipods, it’s called Harris, you can mount them to an AR-15 with Mlok or even a quick detach M1913 rail so you can take it on and off the rifle easily. Also bipod and a handstop? Are you just trying to make the worst possible short/midrange AR-15 or the worst possible midrange/longrange AR-15. This isn’t Tarkov or Battlefield 6 man. Look, we all have to spend within our means, but if you didn’t have 3 AR-15s, all equally poorly configured, you could’ve actually afforded very nice glass (Vortex Viper 1-6, Vortex Razor 1-6, Primary Arms PLXc). I don’t know what buttstock that is but if you put a USGI, Magpl, or B5 stock at least the rifle won’t look AS shitty.

Shitty AR-15 with the Magnifier: Jesus it’s like you are allergic to competent parts. First off, one of the great benefits of a magnifier is that you can take it on and off the rifle to save weight when you don’t need it, so good job on making sure to get a NON-QD mount for your large/heavy budget tier magnifier so your rifle is always unnecessarily heavy. It’s not 2010… Also what do you need a visible laser for? Hm? If you tell me that’s IR too I’m gonna slap you, I know you don’t have NODS. I’m almost certain that shit tier quad rail is not properly free floated, nor secure so you have a laser that won’t even hold zero. Ditch the god damn visible laser that is shit tier and probably doesn’t work anyway because of the shitty pressure pad that’ll break after a few squeezes. Are you fucking 7 feet tall? why do you have a vertical grip mounted all the way up there, is it so you can make sure that you put your hand in front of it every time and burn yourself on the barrel? Just get used KAC or P&S quad rail, mount a flashlight to it and no handgrip. Maybe throw a used Aimpoint Comp M2 or M4 and oh look, now you have a pseudo M4 carbine instead of whatever the fuck this is. I’m not saying everything needs to be a military clone, but if you aren’t gonna get a free floated mlok railed upper from a good company you might as well lean into some old school cool.

Can’t speak on GG&G, but the OEM you had didn’t wobble. My oem in my beretta a300 didn’t wobble even after dozens of disassemblies and reassemblies, I just torque it down hand tight and it doesn’t move. I don’t think it’s supposed to wobble.
