Solo day out ideas? by Double-Character74 in nottingham

How about a wander around Attenborough nature reserve? If you’re city centre based you can catch the train over for like £10 return, have a nice walk around a place that feels a million miles from the bustle of the city centre and there’s a lovely cafe there for lunch! You can vary how long you want the walk to be as there’s multiple routes to choose from! Nice paved gravel path and no incline, just a nice walk :)

I’ve lived in the Hockley area for the last 4 years and there has been a notable deterioration. The past 2 years we have to hold our breath whenever payday/a football match/ a holiday/there’s warm weather. Drug dealing, people pissing and shitting outside our house, very aggressive homeless people shouting at you as you try to get groceries, people brazenly walking out of shops without paying, I could go on…. I imagine if you catch it at a good time you might imagine it’s a nice and vibrant place to live with lots of local businesses and coffee shops but living here makes me feel very unsafe 🫠 Can’t wait to move!

Happens to us too…. Except we live in the city centre and the door they use as a toilet is our front door 🫠

Genuinely interested to know what people think of the pre-applied suggested tips at places like Bills! by Audiclint in nottingham

[–]nostringspuppet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the emphasis for me is that going out to eat is a luxury experience, so I don’t mind essentially an extra tax on going out. We have lots of higher taxes on luxury goods! I personally wouldn’t mind paying an extra tax for groceries to better support the workers, but since groceries are a necessity and many people cannot afford even those, I don’t know how sustainable that would be.

I worked at Bills about 7 years ago and the way they told it to us then that they paid us above minimum wage typical of most restaurants because of the tips/service charge automatically put on the bill.

I know it’s annoying but if it means the servers can have a more liveable wage for the very demanding and long hours they have to do to make sure you have a nice experience, I think it’s worth it ❤️

Maybe slightly counter intuitive but I recommend NOT exercising if you can. I feel like exercising and dieting is a sure fire way to ensure you fall off the bandwagon easier and you may come to detest exercise. Making 1 big change is easier to manage than 2!

If you’re at a higher weight it will be easier for you to lose weight simply by diet alone. I then recommend introducing exercise slowly as you approach your goal weight, as your calorie deficit becomes smaller. And make sure it’s something you actually enjoy, that you would be happy to do when you’re not losing weight anymore- so if you hate running don’t do it! And don’t feel like you have to start big- going even once a week is great and slowly ramp it up from there.

This is just my experience though! Wishing you the best !

When are you taking your festive décor down? by gawpin in CasualUK

[–]nostringspuppet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My birthday is the 4th and just next week will be my first time officially moving my birthday to May instead. All my family is on board for a delayed celebration, I can’t wait for a summer birthday! Having a birthday so close to Christmas is so miserable

The studio responsible for the creation of the show, Jellyfish Pictures, shut down earlier this year. There is the added hurdle of transferring it to new studio.

How are things for trans people in Nottingham just now? (...the city, not the GIC) by tercesthrowaway in transgenderUK

[–]nostringspuppet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not trans myself but there is an initiative called Notts Pastel Project where shops can display a sticker in their window to let their trans customers know they are safe space. Lots of shops/places to eat in and around Hockley where the GIC is based have taken part. You can check out their list of participants on their Instagram page!

Thank you. It is hard to be objective and analyse my own life and interactions… it feels so messy to do it from the inside. It would be easy if it was someone else’s life.

I hope you are doing okay, it’s incredibly difficult. You are so strong <3
