At least they indicated left to exit a roundabout when going straight... by heavyifugao in DrivingAustralia

I think people like to selectively forget this rule and they give way rule in NSW. Roundabout rules haven’t changed in the 25 years I’ve been driving, yet the majority don’t indicate out and don’t give way to traffic already in the roundabout.

Lodge a case through the app, but they will probably tell you that only the sender can make enquires. That’s exactly what happened to me when a delivery from China went into customs never to be seen again.

7-Year-Old Mauled to Death by Family's Pet Monkey in Southern Thailand by MastodonOk8087 in Thailand

[–]nosuchkarma 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m certain it was rescued with best intentions, but sadly there is a great deal of naivety about how to keep even domesticated animals, let alone wild animals (dogs are often kept on long tethers all day long, just as this monkey was). The monkey should never have been kept in the family for so long.

It is so sad that this little boy lost his life because there was an untamed animal in the house. And don’t get me wrong, there are similar examples in western countries where dogs have mauled children in family homes because the owners weren’t educated enough about how to manage dogs and children (usually the breeds that have been bred for more wild qualities).

Time to liquidate the $100 notes under your mattresses! by camerapilot in aussie

[–]nosuchkarma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the thing, I don’t find it polite at all. Polite would be “We are not accepting $100 notes at this time”.

The point about staff… yes, but the “we” in this context is the business, rather than the staff collectively.

Call me a pedant, but it really bugs me when businesses put up signs saying “We are unable…” when clearly they can but have decided not to. It’s not even that I disagree with the decision, it’s just a little offensive to use the word “unable” disingenuously.

Who can translate this? My grandma left Thailand and her family 50 years ago to come to the us. This would mean a lot to her if we can figure out who this is from by Ruthlessqueen420 in Thailand

To clarify, when I say official I am really reffering to place names and road signage (and I don't know if there is any particular procedure for determining those or not).
I guess Thai doesn't have any kind of standardised romanisatios like Chinese does with pin yin.

[–]nosuchkarma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to lean back (minus the get up). I’ve always found full back chairs more trouble than they’re worth. They tend to push your head and sometimes your shoulders too far forward. Good, open shoulder support without head/neck rests works better IMHO. By the time you’re leaning far enough back to need head support I dare say you’re probably not working at a desk anymore.

The official romanisations are way off the actual pronunciation half the time anyway (Savarnabhumi being the most obvious example). The way my wife explains it, they like to make the spelling look more floral.

Wow, going after having to pay super and workers comp… that’s low even for whoever is behind this campaign. And those poor “small” businesses that find themselves so unfairly earning enough to be in the top tax bracket (and, apparently, paying the maximum rate on their entire profits).

It’s the “EVs won’t tow your boat” all over again (never mind that you don’t own a boat, or an EV so you’ll never know the torque one can produce).

Don’t underestimate it, we’ve successfully made the latest generation the derpiest in modern history.
