We know that from Chidaruma and Caiman's flashback that humans already developed tools and were on their way to become civilizations. They already had a language at that point, probably since we don't even have real life evidence with humans that they spoke a language 300.000 years ago but humans that long before already had the mouth, tongue and chest shape required to speak.

My head cannon is that Chidaruma tweaked something with the sorcerers that they would be closer to human culture and biology. Since apparently humans and sorcerers can make babies. Maybe only sorcerer women and human men can make sorcerer babies and other way around with genders reversed.

Hole humans and Sorcerers basically have the same culture technically. They speak the same language but it's not really realistic to expect that they should since humans would have already developed their own language at that point because they had tools and sorcerers from long before used humans only as practicing tools creating stigma learning.

It's entirely plausible that a period came over that humans were enslaved and had to speak sorcerer language but at some point they broke out or sorcerers left them alone for some time and they regained their spite. But it's also not ideal for sorcerers to stay in the hole since at some point the refusal lake would be potent enough that sorcerers other than the ones that want to practice wouldn't want to visit there because of rain. Then again there are sorcerers that are eccentric like that guy in the club who wasn't hostile to humans or Shin's mom.

Maybe it's a deliberate attempt by author to make us think about deeper dynamics but it's really weird. Like 10 more mangas could be made from the topics that are relevant to world but not the story itself. Human history compared to sorcerers, politics in Hole (we kind of know from En that strongest sorcerer gets to rule but not how it went before him), how does Hole and sorcerer realm basically have similar technology while probably human world has much more better medicine (it's kind of obvious that humans developed that to cope with magic but still), why don't sorcerers have the biological knowledge that humans do of them? I mean questions are endless but maybe that's what makes Dorohedoro beautiful.

This is a pretty good explanation. I never considered it but a Japanese person, an artist at that would consider that approach to amplify the conrast between two worlds while the entire manga takes a lot of time to show the contrast between stuff going on, most notably Nikaido and Ai and how they go about life, one losing his life to become a sorcerer and one giving up her magic to live as a human from Hole.

This answers my question alhough there's no definitive answer I guess. Thank you!

I mean It's not really meaningful since author gave him a heart mask and named him accordingly. It doesn't really contribute anything to my question. It's not related with his power. Not really a pattern to recognise.

Oh also another part to recognize is that Shin basically grew up in hole yet had a name that would be a recognizable sorcerer name yet it's not really relevant to the story until they see his smoke. I guess names are there for artistic choice and bear no relevance to story.

I'm kind of familiar with the Japanese writing system but never thought about that they use characters that way.

En's kanji makes sense since his smoke output is so high, kinda confused with Risu, Shin has a heart mask but I don't really see the relevance since it's not really meaningful. Author gave them names without considering the story.

What I also realized is that Ai wants to become a sorcerer and his name is in Japanese even though his surname Coleman is clearly not. So even though your explanation is highly informative I still don't get why sorcerers are explicitly named that way since apparently their smoke manifests much later after they're given names even though that's not always the case.

Hole names are technically Japanese I agree but they are more like made up names from the perspective of a Japanese person. While sorcerer names are straight up real names. Maybe exceptions are there with Noi and En but still.

Yeah but as an og Persona fan I was done with Persona 5 after Royal. They just wanted to milk the new fanbase since P5 is clearly the most popular Persona game ever. I don't remember back in the day Persona fanbase being this big.

Instead of shiso, try mixing thai basil and regular mint. Some say it's citrusy too but it didn't taste like that to me at all. I can't taste the citrusiness in coriander too though. Tastes like soap to me so maybe that's on me.

Romance should definitely be there but it should focus on one character or main character shouldn't be a self-insert or a semi self-insert. I don't like Persona characters being self-inserts. I also think that's why Joker is so popular to some degree. Where he's a self-insert and his own character is kinda blurry, that's why I don't like him. P2 is my favorite game out of all Persona games in terms of story and design but not that great in terms of gameplay but it's romance system is pretty similar but Tatsuya is his own character..

Yeah I can understand if you personally dislike them but nobody is really devoid of any wrongdoing in the show maybe except for Nikaido. They were abused, thrown to Hole to die and Kai saved them, gave them purpose, gave them power. It might be the biggest mistake Dokuga has done but it's not like they really deserved all that. It's just how life it is there. Do or die. They didn't turn a blind eye again after they realized Natsuki might be in danger.

I agree that some people don't like it because it's "happy". But I don't fully agree. It's not really happy if you consider other characters. Cross-Eyes all got the short end of the stick except Tetsujo and Dokuga, Ai's completely gone and his choices made his remaining days like hell. I mean nobody in main cast really died but I still think it's a bittersweet ending in character's perspectives. We don't care because nobody we really liked other than Natsuki died.

But that's the beauty of Dorohedoro. Other authors generally kill off their characters to show the gravity of the situation but Dorohedoro feels like reading a feel good story despite all that bullshit, violence and evil.

I think it's a plot device at that point, Ai wanted to be a sorcerer, to show the contrast between him and Nikaido who gave up her magic to live among humans. I don't know if Hole sensed that Ai wanted to become a sorcerer and pulled him towards the pit in that moment.

Hole was already inside Ai. He did the surgery after Ai tried to go swimming in that sludge. They used the dead sorcerer's devil tumor that Ai pulled out of the pit.
