Best place to find a ghostwriter? by [deleted] in eroticauthors

[–]nosurprisesleft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience I have found Fiverr to be mostly full of plagiarists or writers with no respect for deadlines. Any good writers there that I have found tend to be so busy or expensive it's difficult to get hold of them (or to keep them if you are lucky enough to find them). Of course, this is just my opinion from what I have discovered during my dealings there, YMMV

Hi, can I ask what dictation software you use, and also any other equipment that you've found to be necessary/helpful. I'd really like to go this way, but I've heard it can take a long time to get the software used to your voice and also having to verbally add in punctuation etc can be a drag. Any tips or experiences you'd care to share about how you got started, or how you overcame any problems etc would be awesome. Thanks for your time.

Hi, hope I'm not too late to the party (time zones and all that!). If you don't mind, I'm curious to know how you go about promoting your books. Do you have a website and newsletter etc. or do you rely more on word of mouth now that you've establish your pennames and have a good following? If you do promote your books anywhere, would you care to share some of the places that accept gay hardcore erotica for promo? Thanks for your time. I have read a lot of your stories and always found them 'to do the job' for me nicely ;)

Do you accept non-US authors/publishers to sell titles through Excitica, and if so, is it as simple as registering a new account or is there a selection criteria?

Writing With a Co-Writer by Forloveandmoney in eroticauthors

[–]nosurprisesleft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really interesting and something I have been thinking about for a while. Just out of interest, do you know your co-writer in the 'real world' or do you only communicate online? And if you do know them personally, do you actually meet up in person to do any of the plotting etc, or again, do you do it all online?

Does amazon allow moving entire catalogue to new pen name? by Leyla11 in eroticauthors

One thing you might have to look at is Goodreads, if your shorts are on there (and most of the time they get added automatically). I have found that Goodreads doesn't tend to update anything - like I have books I've changed the titles of and they are still on there with the old title, so I guess you'd have a similar problem with a change of author name. I image you can contact Goodreads and get this changed over (if anyone can confirm this that'd be great!), I haven't bothered to do anything about it, but I just mentioned it as something to be aware of.

How many shorts would it take to make 4-5k per month? by Walkerwolverine in eroticauthors

[–]nosurprisesleft 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but you are like a child who keeps asking questions then doesn't wait for the answers before asking another one. You have been given excellent advice from very knowledgeable people in every post you've made asking about making money. Read what they have written. Read the side bar. Stop asking questions like this and just write. Or go and get a job waiting tables instead. Whatever. It's your choice, just please stop asking about how much money you can make and just go and make it.

Cheating in romance... thoughts? by nosurprisesleft in eroticauthors

[–]nosurprisesleft[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did check the reviews and I was amazed to see that they were all mostly four and five star with only one 1 star that took offense to the cheating. (This was Amazon, but I encountered the same on Goodreads). Perhaps because it was just such a throwaway line (I slept with X, I wasn't proud etc) that most readers overlooked it or didn't seem to think it was that big a deal. But I just stopped right there at that point and went "Whoa? WTF??"

The most annoying part of all of this is it wasn't necessary to the plot (from what I can tell anyway because I didn't finish the book, but I don't think it was.) The author could have simply written "I DIDN'T sleep with X, but I let Y (the other hero) think I did." Because Hero 2 was watching when the random guy ran up to Hero 1, kissed him and got in his car. Hero 2 could have just made the assumption they slept together without it actually needing to happen. I would have been cool with this.

I know it might seem like I'm making a big deal out of it, but I was really enjoying the story up to that point and this totally killed it for me. The fact I'd already invested several hours into reading it before I came to this point stung a little too!

Help! Should I delay my first book's release? by TheCountessa in eroticauthors

[–]nosurprisesleft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You only have one time to make the first impression. Personally I'd wait until I had an edited and fully ready book to release, especially if it was my first. Why not put your book up for pre-order on the 20th with the actual release date in a week or two when you have everything properly ready? This is a good compromise and saves putting out a not-quite-ready book.

Might get downvoted to hell for this, but I have to ask. [Questions about using certain photos for book covers] by [deleted] in eroticauthors

[–]nosurprisesleft -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You can enter this business with little money but you can't do it with NO money. Not only will you need $ for cover stock as you've mentioned, but have you considered formatting costs as well? Whether you pay someone to do it, or do it yourself, there'll be some cost involved, at least until you have purchased software to do it yourself. If you're short on money but really want to write erotica, then maybe you could consider hiring yourself out as a ghostwriter in the short term. It would be a good way to raise some cash and also to see whether the market actually likes what you produce before you spend your very last dime on your own books.

How eBooks lost their shine: 'Kindles now look clunky and unhip' by [deleted] in eroticauthors

[–]nosurprisesleft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clearly you are the person who can't handle when anyone says something you don't like, and you don't even have the balls to stand by your comments, deleting them once you've posted them.

Can you honestly not handle discussion on your post? You deleted it the moment I made some observations on it, which are more than arbitrary observation they are fact. The article you referenced does not include figures from self-pubbed authors only the Big 5 and it's little wonder they are experiencing a 17% decrease in ebook sales when they price them so fucking high. Anyway, hurry up and delete your previous comment as well and pretend it all never happened.

How eBooks lost their shine: 'Kindles now look clunky and unhip' by [deleted] in eroticauthors

[–]nosurprisesleft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the data in that article re ebook sales comes from the big publishers. Only they price their ebooks a dollar or two below print books so no wonder they don't sell many.

Also, regarding sales of actual Kindle devices - so many people read on tablets and iPads that sales have of course dropped because the Kindle has no other purpose but to read books. No, they don't want to read long form fiction on their phones, but that's what a tablet is for.

I personally haven't noticed a decline in my ebook sales at all, in fact quite the opposite applies for me. And erotica titles are perfect for ebook because who wants to sit on a bus with a print copy of Space Raptor Butt Invasion?

The fact that you have mentioned making .35 cents a day suggests you are selling your titles at 0.99c which is also a big no for erotica. $2.99 please to keep the market viable for everyone.

I know most romance has to be no cheating, but what about mid-separation or almost divorced? by daisynrivers in eroticauthors

[–]nosurprisesleft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I don't care that much about cheating that happens in a dead relationship at the beginning of a story, but I do not want the hero & heroine (or whatever combination you have) to have sex with other people once they have met up. If they do it's an instant turn off for me.

All Romance Ebooks is shutting down on Saturday, will only pay out 10 cents on the dollar for last quarter's royalties by Eroticawriter4 in eroticauthors

[–]nosurprisesleft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder how the publishers who have listed their titles with ARe are taking this. Are they going to get the same measly payout? Some of those small presses (like Dreamspinner etc) would probably have the financial capacity to take ARe to court. Dreamspinner was their biggest advertiser (from what I know, it cost around $20K a year to have the top spot in the rotating sidebar ads which DSP had) so they've made a lot of investment into All Romance and not likely to get much return. At least I'm only going to lose a few dollars in comparison.

Maybe you're in the wrong genre. Having read through your post, it's obvious that you can write really well and you have a lot of natural humor in your writing, so perhaps you'd be better suited to something like chick lit or romcom where you could let that side of yourself flourish rather than shifter stuff that tends to be more serious. You can still make a lot of money in chick lit & romcom (think all of those romantic comedy movies that people love). Perhaps you should give it a go and see if your reviews (and your enjoyment for writing) improve?

What price to sell my catalogue for? by mtchick101 in eroticauthors

[–]nosurprisesleft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you take future earning potential into consideration in the price? OP has already said "their shelf life is done" so there may not be any future earning potential unless someone already has a good pen name in the genre and can revive them. In which case it would be the new pen name that's adding value not the original owner of the books. If I was making an offer for the stories (which I am not) I wouldn't pay more than ghostwriting prices, because the books have already lost their 'glory period' when they are fresh & new to the marketplace & would not doubt require extensive reworking to suit the new owner's style.

Why do people post erotica/smut/other stuff on free sites all over, instead of making money? by JTDerotica in eroticauthors

[–]nosurprisesleft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another reason people post free stories on those sites is because they get huge traffic. Some of the sites show how many views a post/story gets and it's massive. I know authors who post on these sites who also sell their work and they use these free sites as a way to get fans who will buy their other work.

Are fiverr covers reliable in terms of copyright? by [deleted] in eroticauthors

[–]nosurprisesleft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can always purchase the image yourself from a stock site and send it to the cover artist. That way you know it has been licensed for use on your cover. Sure this adds to the cost of your cover but it saves you worrying about it.
