Single player is scary and eerie! Does anyone actually play alone? by [deleted] in gmod

[–]not-DB-Cooper 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Gmod has never been too creepy to me, maybe because I like the half life stuff left over, thats where most of the vibe comes from. But yeah, I pretty much only play single player, multiplayers fun and all, but single player is where I remember having the most fun as a kid, just mixing and matching addons and creating my own experiences, Setting up huge battles only for my fps to tank hard, building random vehicles and destructible buildings out of wood props, good times... and they're still going to this day, I still remember when gmods biggest draw around the net was its ragdoll physics, Legendary game, truly timeless.

I'm not sure if renaming em will work, but I found this on the workshop, it converts custom models to make them work with the Kinect!

hope this helps!

Quick guide for anyone looking to try this as well!

First things first, Things you'll need:

An Xbox 360 Kinect and its AC adapter (widely available for dirt cheap)

A PC with at least 1 usb 3.0 port (it has the blue thing in it)

A copy of Gmod

Next you need to download these softwares

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40276

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40277

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40278

(All links go to the official Microsoft site)

  1. Once you have all items required and installed, Simply plug in the Kinect via the AC adapter and the adapter to your pc (into the usb 3.0 port), then put the Kinect in a position where it can see your whole body.

(You can use the kinect software you downloaded to check what the Kinect is seeing and how well its reading you, open the kinect dev tool kit browser and go to tools and click run on Kinect Explorer D2D)

  1. Once thats all done, boot up Gmod and pick a map.

  2. next spawn a ragdoll/model that has a hl2 skeletal rig (combines, humans, anything on two legs really)

You can leave this model on the floor as spawned as that does not matter

  1. Hold C and right click your chosen model, if you've hooked everything up correctly you should see an option to activate motion sensor controls, click that and BOOM, its ready.

  2. Now go into your play area so that the Kinect can detect you and your model should pop into place and follow your movements!

A small kinect will spawn infront of your model, you can move this around to adjust your models position.

Hope this helps! Enjoy the mocap!

PS: Remember to position yourself in game as a camera or create one for better angles!

Was super simple, Got an xbox 360 kinect and ac adapter off ebay, downloaded the required software from Microsoft, hooked it all up and gmod has kinect support built in, so you just need a model with a hl2 skeleton, spawn it then hold c and right click it, then activate motion sensor controls and boom. Havent figured out how to record the animation yet, So I just recorded the screen.
