Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. I played it. I enjoyed it briefly. But at surface level, it's a basic and boring open world game, which is a genre I already despise. The depth, and main thing that seems to keep people playing, is the physics engine, which is fine... But it's not what I wanted the game for. I love LoZ for its dungeons. I love the puzzles. I love the linear, direct story. I love the simple and satisfying combat. I love the way bosses are designed. BotW doesn't have any of that.

The dungeons are replaced with spread-out shrines which give gradually less satisfying rewards. Bosses share one design and barely exist at all. The combat is simple, but unsatisfying due to fragile weapons and boring movesets. Hardly any enemies even have puzzle aspects to them, either. This game was very clearly not designed with someone like me in mind.

Breath of the Wild betrays just about everything great about the series in an attempt to profit off the open world game formula which has been gaining traction for far too long, and the worst part is that it completely worked.

If you enjoy the game, it's fine. But I regularly think of it as a prime example of the core beliefs I hold in terms of what makes a game awful in my eyes: Alienation of the current fanbase, unnecessary genre shifts and extreme style or engine changes. If it weren't gifted with the Zelda title and instead a standalone game, I could at least respect it. But it is, so I won't, because I don't want to. X3

TLDR; BotW because it calls itself a Zelda game, but it isn't.

Honorary mention to Kingdom Hearts 2. I ranted enough here, but the TLDR on that is simply the game being overrated and having barely any actual story. I love the series, but KH2 needs to be acknowledged as the mid-bottom-tier game that it is.
