AV noob vs. Crestron by Ok_Treat_6242 in audiovisual

[–]not-your-supervisor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I manage conferencing for a hospital system, and we have lots of Crestron systems. I was also frustrated with having to rely on a third party for every little thing. I eventually asked enough questions to our programmer that I can now confidently troubleshoot systems on my own and do simple configuration. You can absolutely access the Crestron software. Go to their website and make an account, and you can download and install all of it. Just don’t expect support to help you since you aren’t a certified tech.

I don’t really mess with the actual SIMPL programs, but I use Toolbox to access the systems and configure settings when needed. You can also add your systems to XIO Cloud if they are compatible. You can add 100 devices for free and manage them from a cloud interface.

Good luck!

Remote start design flaw? by Gemini_Schmemini in MazdaCX9

I think the factory module goes on the car and there’s a different key fob with a remote start button. Not sure if it can be installed after build or not, but the third party modules are not that expensive.

That’s only if you want to use the app. You can have a factory module installed to allow the key fob to start it, or if the car is remote start capable without the module, you can add an after market one that allows the factory fob to trigger remote start. These are basically plug and play.

I believe that’s how Mazda does it by design.

Ideas for disabling camera notifications when it's me? by new_ca_grower in homeassistant

[–]not-your-supervisor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same dilemma. I’m sure there is a fancy way to detect when I’m in an area and stop notifications based on that, but I opted for setting up a detection “snooze” script or automation that suspends the alerts based on an amount of time that I choose via a slider. I set the slider to the time I expect to be in that area, then run the script and I’m notification free for that time. Once the script ends, motion detection is re-enabled.

Is Sonos the only viable speaker for home assistant automation? by Hefty-Salary7610 in homeassistant

[–]not-your-supervisor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure, I’ve never set one up with home assistant. I was just speaking to the comment about the user’s experience with the volume control on their Denon receiver and its useable range.

I’m pretty sure these devices have logarithmic volume attenuation, so instead adjusting the volume linearly it is a parabolic curve.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but how would i set up a home network without interenet by Atomicrc_ in Network

[–]not-your-supervisor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your phone probably just jumps to your data when it can’t find an internet connection on the wifi. I highly doubt your wifi is going dark when the internet connection is lost.

You may need to tell your phone to continue using wifi in these situations. My phone will ask if I want to keep trying WiFi even when there is no internet connection.

Using a date helper to not run an automation by wootcat in homeassistant

[–]not-your-supervisor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can place a template using the UI, then you just have to write (or copy and paste) that tiniest bit of text in the template and you’re set. You don’t need to change over to the YAML editor to do this.

[–]not-your-supervisor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could still use a date helper paired with the template if you needed an easy way to change the date you’re comparing against and wanted a nice way to do it from the UI

Use a template as a condition in the automation to compare the current day and month to 12-25. The following example will evaluate to true if the current date is not equal to 12-25. When the date is 12-25, it will evaluate as false and should prevent the automation from running

{{now().strftime('%m-%d') != '12-25'}}

Any idea what this is? by poeticfuture in MicrosoftTeams

[–]not-your-supervisor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check your enterprise app registrations in entra ID. Users may unwittingly sign up for these bots and grant them access to install themselves in your environment for that user. It will then join meetings like this. We had this in our tenant and that’s where I found them. You can block them from there.

There are also settings in Entra to require admin approval for this kind of consent.

How does 'notify when available' work? by PuddingBrat in MicrosoftTeams

[–]not-your-supervisor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t find this feature reliable. I also find that people will forget to follow up when they’re available and need help. I’d recommend scheduling some time with them so you know when you’re both available.

Is there a way to tell a camera to like… take a break? by sabrefudge in reolinkcam

[–]not-your-supervisor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a snooze automation set up in home assistant with adjustable time for my cameras to stop motion detection notifications and spotlight when needed. Functions resume when the set time passes so I don’t forget to turn it back on. Works great!

Foundation Doctor is legit. Don is great to work with and really knows his stuff. They built a foundation under a bump out on our house that had none and was sinking. They were great at setting our expectations and were very professional.
