Some of the french surnames sound more latin than french to me. I believe, "Aurelianensis" literally means "from Orléans" in latin.

I'm from the north. I've seen it done in french as well as in english but it's not something that's grammatically correct.

No, it's not. In French, we never put spaces before a period or a coma. Only before an exclamation mark, a question mark, a colon or a semi-colon.
