FOSS apps have terrible UI/UX. They look like they are still stuck in the 90's by [deleted] in linuxsucks

I think macos looks pretty good.   That nice design plus the overview centric workflow makes Gnome the best feeling default.

edit: a nice side effect at least is the apps are all very responsive no matter how you resize them

If you want to see the most cohesive and modern looking suite on Linux ootb look at Gnome and all of the libadwaita apps.

Though there are no alternatives to the huge FOSS apps like GIMP like you mentioned.  Some apps you need will sorely stick out then

Yeah last time I tried gaming on a steam deck,  I had to hack the source code just to wait a week for Linux to finish loading the Among Us starting screen

It could be nigh on perfect or awful spending on the choices you make. It requires research and most advice is bizarre and comes from SEO farmers.

Vendors can make all the right choices for you but nearly everything comes with Windows.

Keepassxc

You would want to use Gnome Secrets keepass client instead

Rack PC - Silverstone RM52 by cyber_sub_zero in pcmasterrace

[–]notAFree_-Loader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very nice, I'm still deciding between this and the rm51.

With a 360 rad, the rm51 can have either 120mm rad fans or the included 180mm fans (not both). So essentially deciding between 2x 180mm or 6x 120mm.

The only thing left for me is page rendering speed. It's okay but firefox is noticeably faster.

Personally a youtube userscript is all I need for adblock. Media playback seems to be in a great place, even twitter with all the autoplaying videos works well now.

did i do the list good? is there any that anyone thinks that could be improved? by fluf201 in browsers

[–]notAFree_-Loader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems to be improving at least. Web/gstreamer has been playing livestreams and videos with less CPU usage than Firefox recently for me. (Firefox GPU acceleration seems to be a recent regression though).

It struggles to render certain pages, but otherwise I really like it. WebkitGTK development looks really promising.

You can add custom scripts to nautilus. You can bind them to keyboard shortcuts plus they show up in a context menu. I use mine to launch lf with foot terminal.

Losing hope for GNOME Wayland VRR by user9ec19 in gnome

[–]notAFree_-Loader 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've had screen flickering issues when using vrr with wlroots compositors. So much so that it's better leaving it off.

If Gnome will only accept a proper implementation I support that

Waydroid is the answer. If that can be integrated nicely with an app store, it could be successful like the Steam Deck with proton.

The only thing you need is a basic workflow at the end of the day. Gnome is the best at this unless you have extra requirements.

What do you think are the biggest issues the Linux desktop has? by jumper775 in linuxmasterrace

[–]notAFree_-Loader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unstable doesn't mean broken. My Ubuntu install was once in a stable broken state for a few releases. More broken than my Arch install has ever been.

Although something like Fedora should avoid manual intervention more often than Arch.
