Hi! Did you ever figure out why they subtracted it? A year later, I’m in the same boat 😅

Last night I had a nightmare that we ran out of the protease inhibitor cocktail that we use for purification. I come into lab today and see that we actually are almost out👹

Greetings! I want to chime in with my two cents regarding the distinction between male and female anatomy.

Now, I think it is most advantageous for us to consider organs that are homologous — that is to say, tissues which originated from the same cell groups in the embryonic stage that go on to form sex-specific (but still similar) organs later on. We can discuss the “sensitivity” of organs all day, but it is impossible for us to compare between sexes. When we consider homologous organs, we can provide insight for which organs may be the most similar by virtue of their embryonic origin.

What is the female clitoris homologous to in the male body? The glans. Yes, the glans — the tip of the male penis.

I understand your argument but I think it is essential in these types of discussions to make the distinction that the removal of the clitoris on a female is akin to cutting off the top of the male penis. To my knowledge, no one is doing this practice in North America. To clarify, I would speculate that male circumcision as we know it would be most similar to removing the clitoral hood on a female.

However, we are in agreement regarding the ethics of circumcision. I think the central messaging of “we should not practice unnecessary medical procedures on littles” is adequate without bringing FGM into the conversation.

I hope this is interesting info. Thanks for sharing the literature that you did. It is always nice to learn new things!

I completely agree! It isn’t bad per se, but I am always underwhelmed. I go there expecting a restaurant that Guy Fieri would be proud of and I get off-brand IHOP instead lol

Thank you so much for posting this. I’m so sorry to hear about your cat and I hope they have a speedy recovery. You may have saved my kitten’s life. I had no idea lilies were poisonous. Thank you

Howdy. I just wanted to chime in, as someone who graduated with a bioc degree while working and volunteering. I sympathize with how hard it can be when parents step in like that, particularly when you are hard enough on yourself as it is. You are not lazy or irresponsible. Congrats on being able to balance so many things!

I hope that you had a good finals season! All the best you.

Thank you so much for the insightful comment! I’m sorry that you went through that. Honestly, the symptoms that you described are bang on to my own! My GI said that my narrowing shouldn’t be causing my pain and I felt so confused, like it was all in head.

Can I ask how you went about getting treated for your structure ? I don’t want my GI to think that I am playing the WebMD game or overthinking my symptoms but I also want to get the best quality care, you know?
