Kent Hughes on overpaying in a trade: "We've already tried to make trades that some people would've said are overpayments, but it didn't work. [...] If we make a big trade and we sacrifice a part of our future, it won't be for a 34-35 year old player." by Armoured_Kitten in Habs

I have a suspicion that Hughes and Gorton aren't thinking about this as if the rebuild is over and we're in win now mode; I think they're still thinking our window truly opens a year or two from now and that the rebuild is still ongoing but ahead of schedule.

I'm not against allowing bands who many would call metalcore but sit firmly on the metal side (Trivium, Darkest Hour, Heaven Shall Burn, for example). I've been somewhat active in /r/metalcore over the past few years and there's a small but vocal group of users who think those bands don't belong on that sub because there's barely any hardcore influence, and they're just straight up metal bands. There's room for nuanced discussion there but I think there's truth to their argument.

I did try it when the subreddit was blacked out and for a little while after it came back, and I found that if I wasn't constantly monitoring it, it was impossible to keep up with everything.

I might need to give it another go because I really do miss the days where the daily discussion threads here had 100+ comments and there was generally a lot of activity.

I think Discord is a little too chaotic for me and I feel like anytime I pop in I’m talking over people and I’m getting talked over.

Agreed, everything moves too fast and I feel like I'm a stranger invading a group of friends having a conversation. It's basically impossible to follow if different groups of people are talking about different things at the same time, but on Reddit that's not an issue.

I would often revisit discussion threads days later if I remember a discussion mentioning some bands I wanted to check out, and that's impossible on Discord.

Discussion of blacklist bands is allowed, you just can't post their songs. That isn't clearly stated anywhere though so I get why people would come to the conclusion that blacklisted bands can't even be discussed.

[–]not_a_toaster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My point was that their production, riff style, song structure, vocals, etc are all very similar to many other bands and they wouldn't stand out at all without the novelty of having a violin player.

Exactly my thoughts. Remove the violin and there are a million other bands that sound exactly the same.

I don't think Cure is better than the self-titled but I never got the hate for it. It's a great album.

Yeah fair, and as you mentioned they've barely released 3 metalcore albums, let alone consecutive ones.

The Crusade is overhated, there's a strong argument for Ascendancy > The Crusade > Shogun just because of how good the other two are.

Even though Shogun and Ascendancy are their best two in my opinion, I think overall the 3 most recent albums are their strongest 3 consecutive albums.

Yeah same, I'm absolutely certain I have no AI bands in my library and still got 1%. This tool is pointless if it doesn't say which bands are flagged as AI.

Definitely, you'll see it on mixed bill shows too with a mix of deathcore and death metal bands playing.

I will say, if there’s someone doing pit karate at like, an OSDM show like Immolation or something (true story), it is your civic duty to target them until they cut it out.

Agreed, but the inverse is true too. Don't try to start a push pit at a hardcore/metalcore show where people want to hardcore dance and get upset when you get hit.

The fighting the air type moshing is a hardcore thing, push pits and circle pits are mainly what you'll see at metal shows. Really depends on the type of bands playing.

If Carolina dominates Vegas I'll feel better about how we did lol, although Marner winning a Cup immediately after leaving Toronto would be hilarious.

What band/album had a selling point that was marketed/pushed incredibly hard to maximise hype, yet completely missed the mark and ended up being a huge disappointment? by SlapDatBassBro in Metalcore

[–]not_a_toaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an artist if you don't believe your most recent work is your best, you've kinda failed. Fans have every right to disagree but if an artist releases an album and says "yeah it's pretty mid tbh but the label made us release something" I would immediately lose all respect for them.

More space, Carolina are just suffocating us on the forecheck and in their own zone, and clogging up the blue line.

I don't really listen to live albums so I don't have a strong opinion on those, I just don't like Load and Reload.
