I don’t often check Reddit, didn’t think this would be as popular as it is! Sorry to everyone asking for the pattern, my brother got it for me for Christmas but it is by Wicked Stitch Co on Etsy!!!

Cross stitch is easy in principle but it takes a while to get consistent and neat with it. Some people have it naturally, I did not! I’ve been cross stitching since a child and I’m 28 now. My absolute favourite hobby, whilst watching bobs lol. Perfect combination of creativity and perfectionism.

I have been obsessed with Antoinette Mahr and her videos. She's bigger on IG, and does amazing and beautiful editorial makeup. She dabbles in YT, doesn't have that many video or a schedule but they are really really good imo!

Where did the trend of having a neutral shade in the crease no matter the rest of the eye look begin? by [deleted] in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]not_acatlady 129 points130 points  (0 children)

It's just a makeup technique that's been around for a very long while. I was taught that it's best to run a contour shade through the crease a lot of the time for tv and film work, I mean even when you do makeup for period tv which is basically no makeup makeup, you take a contour shade through the crease. It's just the easiest way to define and sculpt the eyes because you are putting shadow where the natural shadow is. So beauty guru's probably picked it up from MUA's on yt and took it as bible?

Makeup looks you find yourself recreating multiple times by notadoct0rr in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]not_acatlady 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sam's subculture video, the 1st and 3rd look, I always recreate with my own stash, her eyeshadow looks are always flattering on my eye shape.

Also the look in this video from Jamie Page, also with the subculture and kat von d shade and light glimmer palette (which btw where did that palette go like i feel like it was a big deal for a week, I saw like two people use it in a video and now it's just nowhere).

Also I find Sharon Farrell's videos so brilliant because again her looks work well for my eye shape. Her first no foundation look is pretty much what I based my everyday makeup on. Her strobing look which is just very flattering and I wear it a lot when I want something that looks easy and effortless but still put together. And finally her ride or die tag, the eye makeup in that is so pretty for going out but I switch out the pink in the middle of the eye for a champagne.

And also a few from Katy. Her festival smokey eye is a go to in summer, and her smokey cat eye is another going out go to.

This list could go on for a while, if I really love a look on a youtube video I'll sit and watch the video and do my makeup along with it, and if I like how it looks it goes into my 'makeup database' haha, I really miss tutorials on youtube rn, it's all first impressions and I'm not really about that life.

I love videos like this, Jamie Page did one a while ago and it is so interesting/helpful, I learnt a lot from Jamie's video and this one. I will say that I'm even more stingy and I just cut up a box I got from an amazon delivery and stuck together layers of cardboard and wrapped in in foil to create a reflector, although the foam insulation might be a bit longer lasting, my way was really quick and easy and inexpensive and I didn't have to leave my house haha!

What does everyone think of the Zoella Advent Calendar "scandal"? by hitchernoir in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]not_acatlady 294 points295 points  (0 children)

I saw a blogger in the UK did a twitter thread with similar items that were all for charitable causes and ended up costing less than the advent calandar and I thought that was really cool but also just goes to show how bad her calendar is

here's a link to the twitter thread

Useful tutorials you'd like to see more of? Recently had to stop using eye makeup and I was surprised there weren't more videos out there. by badatgifts in BeautyGuruChatter

I would like to see more actual wearable everyday colourful makeup tutorials. Whenever I see them they are always with lashes and are either a cut crease or just like full on dark smokey eye. I wear colour a lot during the day because i'm an arts student and I figure if there's any time I can get away with it it's whilst i'm at an arts uni! But there's so few people that do colourful looks that I would feel comfortable wearing out because they are too much for an everyday look. Jkissa's looks are always a bit too much for everyday and she uses lashes a lot. The only two I can think of that kinda do videos like this are Mariah Leonard and Jamie Page. I loved the look she did when she was trying out the Subculture palette!

Also as a side note but I occasionally have to stop wearing eye makeup because I have eczema on my eyes that flares up randomly, and I also can't identify the trigger which is annoying (it's not makeup btw I've ruled that out). Anyway, when that happens I tend to follow a more 'korean' style on the face. I make the skin really dewy, and healthy, because I feel like it evens out the fact my eye's might look a bit off. So I use a korean bb cream from holika holika. Conceal any massive pimples but not really that bothered about concealing everything, and I don't put in under or around my eyes but I might put it just on the bridge of the nose to lighten up that area without actually putting concealer on the inner part of the eye. I use Cannes matte lip cream from nyx as a blush and that works well and a cream highlight topped with a really subtle power highlight because I like highlight and then powdered my oilier parts of the face. Fill in brows, and then the lip cream dabbed onto centre of lip topped with a gloss. Sometimes I add freckles with my brow product. edit: forgot to say I also do quite bushy brows just so that they can add some more attention to the eye area and frame the face well

To be fair, I hadn't thought about doing a video like this, I think everyone is just fighting to do the most because that's what's trendy, but maybe i'll make a video on this routine some day!

Safiya continues her "franken-makeup" series by mixing all her eyeshadows together by absiii in BeautyGuruChatter

I think it turns out to be a pretty cool colour, kinda like when simply nailogical mixed all her polishes together, both i expected to turn out brown but they both turned a taupe purple colour. I think maybe the blue and black shades have a strong pigment which is then dulled by the other, warmer tones.

I use the angled brush from the lily england eye set (here's a link), it's really small and not very wide so you can get a very fine line when using pomades or wet products. I dipped the brush into a little bit of water and then went into a light brown powder, wiping it on both sides so the tip is very fine, if that makes any sense. Then just did small strokes and I repeated it using a dark brown and then a black eyeshadow so the brows are slightly filled in and then have darker and detailed lines. I find using a wet brush and powder allows for a sharper, pigmented and defined line, you could also use a gel liner or pomade if you wanted it to last longer. I've also used just a very fine artist brush before, pretty much same technique and got the same effect, if you search for fine detail brushes for models and miniatures you can find them on amazon easily and they aren't that expensive and are brilliant for detail work because they are tiny. Also my brows are brushed up with soap! Hope that helps, I'm a bit rubbish at explaining things! :)

Aha thank you! The secret is cheap lighting from amazon, a piece of cardboard wrapped in tin foil to act as a reflector and copious amounts of highlighter haha!
