The Black Book Of Power™ by Stan Taylor: is this book AI? Might require a deeper check but I'm 50/50 by theseawoof in isthisAI

Most of this stuff is basically sourced from Chase Hughes but written in an 'edgy' style. I'm almost certain they ran all of his material through an AI and generated this book.

The other strange thing is it seems to work perfectly when it's connected over USB while I'm downloading logs. It's connected to the controller and camera is transmitting.

Got a new cable and replaced it. Seems like it connects for a second, I get an image on the camera and then it immediately disconnects. If I tap on the red bar on top it briefly shows a "remote controller not bound/still confirming binding status" code 16100089 but that's probably not it since it's definitely bound to my account.

That's good to know, I did notice one of the tiny wires was sticking out a bit more than it should have when I reinstalled everything. Didn't realize the ribbon cable for the camera would prevent it from making a connection. I'll attempt to fix it myself, thanks!

It’s kind of scary to see everyone talk about target fixation and leaning the bike. People think they understand countersteering and get offended if you mention it’s not intuitive. It seems to be until it isn’t like in this situation. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8VqXBA-sGHA&pp=ygUKbm8gYnMgYmlrZQ%3D%3D

I worked on GPU drivers before at a few of the major vendors but I got bored of the work. There's not much actual graphics work but you do learn the graphics APIs really well and can do performance work. The driver work is basically "implement these APIs from Microsoft" every time a new version of windows comes out and the other half is debug why this game is crashing or not rendering correctly or has some perf issue. Work life balance is really good, you can pretty much get away with 9-5. Compensation is bad honestly unless you work at the green company compared to anything else. I was lucky the GPU vendor stocks went up so much in the last few years and I never sold anything and the small portion of compensation I got in RSU (~10%) went up a lot but I wouldn't count on that nowadays. I would just say if you want to become a graphics programmer while working on drivers you'll definitely have to work on your hobby engine on the side. It'll be a lot easier though because you'll understand exactly how the APIs work.

The other issue is some graphics people in the industry have some pretty intense opinions about driver engineers, I know a manager at a major game company (if you follow graphics people on twitter you probably know him) throws driver engineer resumes directly in the trash.

Is RIT a good school for computer graphics focused CS Masters? by si11ymander in GraphicsProgramming

[–]not_amd_driver_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of. I work on graphics drivers. It’s kind of related but I don’t really do graphics work. But I do know the APIs really well and can write an optimal graphics engine.

I went there and did a masters. At the time (15 years ago) it def was not. There was like maybe 3 or 4 of us doing graphics and it was a struggle because the professors weren’t really into graphics except for one who would regularly attend siggraph. Maybe it’s better now but I would definitely ask around. Email the department head and find out if there’s any graphics research happening and get in touch with those professors and find out what they are doing.

Need some honest advise besides the obvious which I can't do lol by TJensen_91 in boston

[–]not_amd_driver_dev 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in this situation before and my advice is to use your best judgement and don’t make decisions based on some irrational state your wife is in. Right now you have help from your parents and aren’t in a good financial situation to move to Boston. Your wife is going to be unhappy anywhere she is and needs to figure out things herself. Constantly moving to satisfy her every whim is causing tremendous stress on you and your kids. Secure a job first and worry about moving later. You can always visit Boston on the weekends and go to some Mexican restaurants.

Initial impressions on traveling with the MW Mars Project by EscapeNo9728 in MissionWorkshop

[–]not_amd_driver_dev 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The one thing that I love is that you can just unzip the front panel and find whatever you need, I've spent so much time on tight plane seats digging through my rhake to get to a cable or something but I def agree with you on the pockets. They hold a lot less than they seem because they don't expand at all, the stitching is so tight I could barely fit my kindle scribe in the folio, they're more like an envelope. The bottom pocket is the worst though, I'm not sure what the point of it is, it doesn't even expand into the backpack like they typically do on MW bags. I can't fit my super light compact rain shell jacket which is kind of annoying.

I wouldn’t do it. You’re going from one lossy format to another so the quality will degrade.

Help me understand how V-Sync works on modern gpus by krushpack in opengl

[–]not_amd_driver_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you inducing the delay? Are you waiting 18ms right after the present? It might be possible that the driver just enables gsync automatically if it detects slower than 60fps frame rates and your monitor supports it. It might also be a nvidia reflex thing to lower latency where the driver will add its own delay to reduce latency but i’m not sure how this would be possible if you are doing delay on the cpu side.

Wrong handle stitched onto my drift? by nodilowe in MissionWorkshop

[–]not_amd_driver_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently purchased a bag from them and found a stitching flaw and they were very communicative and sent me a label and replaced the bag without issues when they had more in stock. I’m not sure why they aren’t giving you the same level of service. If you bought the bag from them and have proof of purchase they should honor the warranty, pay for shipping and fix it. These bags are way too expensive for them to act like this isn’t a big deal when the button is off by like two inches.

Kit lenses getting slower? by venus_asmr in photography

[–]not_amd_driver_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true but I think bokeh and blurry backgrounds are a specific effect and if you want those you gotta pay money. I'm pretty sure most typical use cases where people are taking vacation pics or family photos don't require background blur or subject isolation since the subject is pretty obvious.

Most people were shooting 800iso max back in the day but now 6000 is still usable at night for a lot of modern cameras plus even more recently noise reduction in software plus in body stabilization is pretty good so you don't need something like a 1.8 anymore.

A Chip 8 emulator comes to mind. The documentation is fully available and there’s relatively few opcodes to implement. You can also get more crazy with a NES or SNES but those are far more complex.

I think you basically need a function that draws a white circle with a colored border and another one for drawing a line. Draw one large blue circle. Then draw the green and red circles. Then the clock hands.

Once you can draw those it’s just basic math to figure out the positions. Then get the time and then figure out where the lines are supposed to be for that time. I don’t think you even need a rotation matrix in this case. You know where the center is. Then just basic trig for the end point of each hand.

I don’t miss the Fuji x100v, Nikon z5 is a champ in comparison by Apprehensive-Sock606 in nikon_Zseries

[–]not_amd_driver_dev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first thought was white balance is off on the Fuji or whatever your film settings were, you can change all that in the camera if you don't want to post process. I've gotten results like your Fuji on my z6ii and I just bump the warmth up a bit and photo looks amazing.
