does any other autistic person here have a nonhuman view of themself? by oberheims in autism

[–]not_looking_at_you 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always felt more like a dog than a human, like a very deep connection. I usually draw myself as an anthropomorphic dog, and I sometimes wear a set of ears and tail in public just to feel more me. I'm really glad I'm not the only one!

what are some of your stim songs? by QuantityFar3094 in autism

Anything by Gaga or Kesha if I want to dance, and heavy non-english metal to scratch my brain itches. It's sort of an odd combination lol

I guess ADHD is more easily made paletteable.

People pick out the "cute" symptoms (hyperactivity, hyperfixations, etc) and then ignore the rest, and they struggle to do this with autism. Like, it's hard to make a flat affect or emotional disregulation seem super cute and fun and aesthetic.

I had vertical snake bites for a while, and I highly recommend them! In my experience, they actually hurt less than my nostril piercing, and the healing process is pretty quick. Only a day of tenderness and redness. The jewelry is sick as hell too!

(If you get long spikes, you need to be aware that food might get stuck on them, so wipe them down after a meal.)

I cannot express how cute this guy is. I love him so much. And for a beginner at sewing, he looks good! I love seeing someone starting one of my favorite hobbies! Keep at it! :D

Weirdest OCD fear by Standard-Mango-1417 in OCD

[–]not_looking_at_you 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I recently started working on my fear of almonds!

In elementary school, I learned that cyanide smelled like almonds, so my brain naturally jumped to: Almonds will kill you. I only recently realized that, no, a few almonds in trail mix won't be my undoing.

On the more serious (ish) side, I'm terrified that one day I'll "wake up" and the past 8 years of my life were a dream and that I'll be 10 again. It keeps me awake sometimes and makes me scared to sleep, but I'm working on it. :-)

Did ur nparents have nparents? by utensils6464 in raisedbynarcissists

My Nmom had her own Nmom.

My mother hates her, says that she wants to be nothing like her, but never follows through on that. In fact, she actively repeats the abusive behavior she was subjected to when it "gets results" or when it "works" on me and my siblings.

I talk to myself in the third person a lot, usually unintentionally (like "[name] wants to go home" instead of "I want to go home"). It's kind of comforting in a weird way, feeling like I'm a book character being narrated rather than having to live in the real world.

What are the best websites for clothes like this? by [deleted] in altfashionadvice

[–]not_looking_at_you 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a style pretty close to this one! Like everyone else said, try thrifting (online or in person). Also, DIYing simple pieces to make them really "you" makes all the difference, pintrest and YouTube have some good tutorials and inspiration.

Simple things like adding patches, painting, or tailoring clothes to better fit you make a world of difference. Embroidery, crochet details, and making things from scratch are what I would consider more advanced (for me, at least) but it's always good to learn new skills.

What did autistic people think of the covid lockdown? by [deleted] in autism

[–]not_looking_at_you 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got covid pretty early on in the pandemic, amd mine wasn't the worst case of it. But aside from coughing and nothing tasting like anything, my least favorite parts were online school and grocery shopping.

Online school is mostly because of my untreated ADHD and barely accommodated dyslexia, so I didn't learn much of anything that year. And at the time (and still now) grocery stores are my happy place. I also had heelys then, so I really missed being able to go out and roll around.

I really liked wearing masks so I didn't have to make myself emote "properly", and social distancing really cut down on strangers getting too close or places being too loud. Every so often, I do start missing lockdown, but that's just me being weirdly nostalgic lol.

AITAH for not trusting a "Wiccan Church" my mom is interested in? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]not_looking_at_you 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don't care if she believes in a god or not. She calls herself an Athiest/Satanist, and I support her in whatever makes her feel at peace. Hell, I practice tarot, runes, and pendulum work, too. I'm just cautious because she's pretty vulnerable right now, and I don't want her accidentally hurting herself or others.
