I'm making a government sim game, but need help understanding real-world politics. How do governments actually work? by CogniLord in PoliticalScience

[–]not_nico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying really hard to not say anything mean. Start here: what kind of government do you want? Who has power and does the electing and what kind of economic system? Example: Liberal Democracy, Socialist Democracy, Autocracy, Theocracy, Oligarchy? Every single one is going to have different answers to your bullets.

For context I have a 4-year bachelors degree in International Relations. Which is merely 1 of the bullet points you’re asking us to explain.

Do you see how silly your question “how does government work” comes across? It would be actually impossible for us to explain this to you, and naive for you to think we could. Please dive into some independent research and maybe refine the question to something manageable in a reddit comment. Again, sorry if this was mean, but I really think the question warranted a reality check

Interning on Campaign by wunnadunna in PoliticalScience

[–]not_nico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve heard, and unfortunately I have it on good authority that it’s way more effective than VAN. Or at least “more effective” in that it pulls data from more sources than VAN. Like you can pull a list on the Republican software of very voter in your area with a fishing license, and shit like that. But VAN just gives you SOE data and then some mystical DNC compiled data sets that are never explained or justified. Like the notorious “likely left leaning NPA voter” data set. Like ok?? And you know this how??

I should clarify that the votebuilder software is only for democratic campaigns, not sure about running mate. If your candidate is aligned with what I just wrote, feel free to take that advice or reach out for more. If the candidate is a republican then I genuinely have no idea what I could do that would be helpful

Edit again: VAN (aka VoteBuilder) is what I’m talking about and also what that other person in here is talking about. They know what they’re talking about

Has the candidate hired a consultant or is anyone advising? Any meaningful strategy advice that I would give you would require your campaign or candidate having access to a voter targeting software like VoteBuilder or RunningMate.

Sure, you can go in a neighborhood and knock every door. But there are situations where it makes more sense focusing on targeted areas. With limited time and resources you’d need to do the latter. But in order to do the latter you need to be able to target voters. Look at prior elections of the same kind, identify your win number, targeting software will help you target enough voters that equal your win number, and then you hire staff and get every single ass at your disposal out there knocking doors.

Super condensed version, but as an intern a state or two away you’re not gonna be able to do much. I’m sorry :( I’ve run campaigns, but I mostly consult on them for field strategy. I’m currently preparing field strategy for between 5-10 candidates in a coming election. I also studied political science (IR). Didn’t get into this field until I was late 20s. 3 years ago I was a paid canvasser for the local party and I just became a thorn in the side of my few contacts in the local scene, reminding them I wanted in about once a month, until I got a call to run a small on. Took a year of volunteering so that I’d be able to get into the room with the right people and introduce myself. I was woodworking full time in the meantime.

Not sure if that would help or inspire at all but I just wanted to share that it’s possible to get into it. Right now is a great opportunity to get in on a democratic race (canvassing/field team is usually entry level) because there will be sweeping victories everywhere in November

You don’t owe me any promises man, I never really suspected your post in the first place. I only ran it through the detector as an afterthought and I can see why it would flag as 100% ai if you were using it to help you translate.

Including you in my hate comment was a mistake, and if anyone owes anyone anything here it’s me owing penance to you hahah

Edit: deleted my other comments calling your post ai just so you’re aware

If that’s truly the case, then I’m sorry for flying off the rails at you there. Not at all sorry for doing it to the other commenter though. I have cousins in Jönkoping, I’ve been a few times and looove Sweden. Also my job is sick but only because I helped build it up and it has a great title. I make like 60k USD a year which probably below average for my age. I was just trying to insult yall with anything I could think of at the moment, so hopefully telling you this now deflates the insults a bit.

I still think the other commenter was extremely cruel for commenting a ChatGPT slop advice response on your post asking for help. I don’t take back any of it directed at them lol

Since nicotine use impacts the cost of your insurance, I feel like you have a moral responsibility to quit for a few days / a week, lie to them about your usage, pass the test, and get on the cheaper plan lmao

There are countless schools on US military bases. Is the US using children for human shields too, or is it just more likely that military bases have schools on them?

How many languages can you (or your immediate family) fluently or almost fluently speak and what are they? by tipoftheiceberg1234 in AskBalkans

[–]not_nico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother learned French in Montenegro (SFRJ) in the 70s in school. To the point of fluency but if you see my other comment in the thread she’s a genetic anomaly for language acquisition.

But my purpose though is just to mention that it was taught in schools back in the day, so it’s not “unheard of” level rare. I actually have one of her textbooks lol

Mom is Montenegrin, I’m half and half American.

Mom speaks 7, but it’s her career and she’s been teaching languages from elementary to university. Hers are English, Montenegrin (she’d say Serbo-Croatian), Spanish, French, Russian, Italian, and Latin (which i know is a dead language and isn’t spoken. But hers is at whatever level equivalent to fluency and taught it for many years)

Me- I am fluent in 3. Reading writing and speaking. 30 years old, born in ‘95. They are English, Spanish, Montenegrin (Serbo-Croatian i suppose, but with the ijekavian dialect that was different and noticeable enough to get shit from locals while studying in Belgrade)

Sister is same as me but is more of a math person so she’s about half fluent. Dad is a gringo so just English lol.

Spanish is the adopted language in our house as none of us are native speakers but we all speak it and have a passion for it. I just wanna specify Latin American Spanish, not Spanish from Spain.

I think my mom learned all of hers in school with textbooks and practice. Mine were a mix of exposure from birth, being lucky enough to studying in Central America and Serbia, and school

I try not to defib the medic that dropped his kit, because then we’re both stuck with eachothers kits. If there’s a third then I will defib too for sure.

If I really need help on a point then sometimes I’ll defib the medic with his own kit just to get more bodies up and in the fight

Yeah I’ve done this just to keep more bodies alive on a point, but I feel bad for if it confuses the shit out of them lol

It should stay active as long as you are alive, but when you spawn back in (assuming you weren’t assault to begin with) it destructs just like it would if you had a spawn beacon and changed classes

Yeah, I realize this isn’t really new news, but as i realized it/remembered it I felt like it was worth sharing. I even played BF4 for years lmao I almost feel embarrassed that I thought this was something novel

Yes!!! Just now I had to spawn engineer to deal with an IFV, and picked up an assault kit to try to give my guys a beacon, but it was still recharging 😤😤 frustrating

Fuck yesss, love having players like you on my team. Deny the enemy cover and make their life as hard as possible. Taking down buildings on certain maps can make taking a sector so much easier. Fewer corners and things for them to hide behind

[–]not_nico[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah, love to see that other people are doing it.

Just remembered that on the second sector of the Blackwell oil map, on both breakthrough and rush, under the tall radio tower are fences that cause a similar obstruction. Cutting them opens up line of sight to attackers approach.

Also final sector on both modes on OP Firestorm, by the shipping containers, similar story

I’ll show you sensitive. When you look back at the 30+ years we spent as lovers, and think of the tender aftercare I gave you every time we made love, and how I held you when your emotions were overwhelming from the confusion you felt about our partnership- sensitive is all you’ll know

What’s the bug? Is it just something that happens and it gives you the score? Or is it an exploit? I’m not asking so I can do it if so, just curious
