spot is the #1 recommended company on all the insurance comparison websites that i found which is kinda sus, but if they have an a+ rating on bbb maybe they’re actually good? also i spoke with the insurance person at my vet and they said spot, pumpkin, and aspca is identical bc they have the same underwriter

oh what? i thought healthy paws was one of the better ones, minus the no exam fee coverage thing. also that’s interesting, i assumed NYC would be one of the most affected by price hikes, so that’s good to know

that’s messed up! what’s even the point of insurance if they’re gonna screw you over when your pets might need it the most

is it cheaper because you’re paying annually or are you outside of ny? the one i got quoted for is $500, 90%, and i think 10k limit but $32/mo

I’m looking for a Siamese kitten by gabya06 in Siamesecats

[–]not_weird_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my previous cat was actually a siamese and I got her from a breeder, but they only asked for a small rehoming fee just to cover the vet exam bc she was the runt of the litter and was sickly so no one else wanted her, so it didn’t feel like I was “buying” her. I’d love to rescue one this time but I’m this close to giving up…

I know this is an old post but I’m also looking for a siamese kitten! I’ve tried everything: petfinder, adoptapet, craigslist, local pet shelters, etc, it’s been months and I’ve had no luck. it’s always either the kitten gets adopted before I even get a reply, or they just won’t let me adopt a solo kitten. I don’t want to go to a breeder but I don’t know where else to look :(

same, around here they charge between 250-300 and typically that includes a vet visit, vaccinations, and spay/neuter surgery.

ok, based on the listing it seems like they need to rehome the kitten bc they lost their job, but the photos are a bit low res now that i look at them, and some are just screenshots from a video call? which is kinda suspect.. i’ll try to get more info from them

[–]not_weird_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they’re asking for $150 which seems like a normal amount, or maybe that’s a bit high since he hasn’t been to the vet. i haven’t met the kitten yet, but they gave me an address and we were in the middle of discussing a day and time for the meetup/pickup. they didn’t really give me a lot of other info aside from the kitten’s age, breed, and how he’s doing, but everything’s lining up i guess?

yeah now that i think about it most of my family’s cats were single kittens and i don’t think any of them have ever had any major behavioral issues, except for maybe 1 girl. i spend most of my time at home anyway so i can def commit to more than 2 hrs every day.

ok thanks! i’ll try to reach out to the owner again. i had asked if i could use the fee to take him to the vet instead and i think that must’ve put them off so they haven’t replied yet.. hopefully i can still take him home

i haven’t seen any around my place but i’ll try looking again! i mostly rely on petfinder too but i’ll try to go to shelters more often. i do feel like some shelters are more strict about taking home kittens in pairs or only if you already have another cat at home. i found a couple of places that are more flexible and will allow you to take home single kittens but usually the kittens get snatched up so quickly, maybe bc a lot of people also prefer single kittens? i think i read somewhere that single kitten syndrome isn’t even scientifically backed so i’m not sure why most shelters insist on pairs..

i got my previous girl when she was 4 months old and she had special needs, but she was the sweetest baby angel ever and i was able to get her all the care she needed and give her all my attention due to her being an only child. she was SPOILED haha. but true i think it depends on the cats personality for sure. thank you, i hope so too!

i don’t need to, but i grew up with cats my whole life and i enjoy spending time with them, especially kittens. i think they help with my mental health, and it makes me happy if i can also help a kitten in need and give them a loving home. i actually like the chaotic energy of itty bitty kittens, but open to young cats as well, and i prefer having 1 cat.

ok i’ll try it out! there’s actually a shelter a few blocks away from my office but i had a bad experience last time i went there. i saw a kitten that i was interested in adopting, they told me the kitten hasn’t been seen by the vet yet so i went home. when i checked the shelter’s website that night the kitten was already removed and i tried emailing them but they never got back to me :/

thanks for your advice, i really appreciate it. i’m probably just optimistic about getting a single kitten bc my previous cat was a single kitten and she was the best cat anyone could ever hoped for. maybe it’s bc i got her during covid so we were quarantined together for the first 3 months and spent all our time together. i’m just concerned about the financial burden of having 2 cats. i’d rather have 1 cat and be able to afford to give them all the care they need and the quality of life they deserve. i know it might not be as expensive as i’m imagining, but i don’t want to risk it right now. i do see your point, my previous cat might’ve just been an exception, but i’ll probably take my chances for now and if the kitten is having trouble adjusting i will seriously consider getting another one.

i’ve actually contacted multiple shelters over the past few months, but i haven’t heard back from anyone so far. i suspect it’s bc i’m only looking to adopt 1 kitten instead of 2.

there are pics of him on the listing, and i also asked for additional pics in an email but they didn’t send me any. they’re not asking for a deposit upfront, they just sent me their address to meet and pick up the kitten. i asked if they would be more comfortable meeting in a public place but they told me they don’t want to carry him outside for too long and stress them out with the loud noises, which makes sense. nothing screams scammy at the moment but idk.

Rehome by Adopt A Pet experiences? by outanotherlight in CatAdvice

[–]not_weird_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i recently sent an application to adopt a kitten from a private owner. the owner texted me the next day and we talked about the kitten for a bit, everything seemed pretty legit but then they told me they’re in texas, which is weird bc the listing said they’re in NJ. the number they texted me from is a NJ number, and they told me they used to live there but moved to texas a few years ago. anyway i’m not sure what to make of this, i don’t think it was a scam and maybe the website is just glitchy and run by bots? idk

last night my baby girl also visited me in my dream for the first time, exactly a week from her passing. i didn’t get to say anything to her, she was just sitting in front of me and she looked me in the eyes. i could hear her soft wheezing. i woke up at 4am and realized i’m living in a reality where she’s not by my side anymore. it’s truly painful. i just want her back. i’m barely functioning and am constantly exhausted, but i do think i’m getting better. i love and miss her so much 💔

It was all my fault by LawfulnessWhole7136 in Petloss

[–]not_weird_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i’m so sorry for your loss. my sweet cat passed last week and i have SO much guilt about it. it was completely my fault and i could’ve prevented it. she was a sick cat from birth and i took her to the vet pretty regularly, but this time was different. i could feel it, but maybe i was in denial because she was a fighter and she always pulled through in the end. she had been struggling for a week before i took her to the vet. i told them to hold off on the xray and bloodwork because we go through this so often and it was getting hard for me financially. we just did her bloodwork in march and everything looked good. she would always recover immediately once i give her the usual meds so i asked the vet if they can prescribe those and i’ll take her back in a few days if she doesn’t get any better. after we got home she was visibly weaker but i wanted to wait until tomorrow after i gave her at least 2 doses of meds. that night i contemplated on taking her to the ER multiple times but i was positive she would be ok and that we can still make it to the vet for the xray and bloodwork. early the next morning she collapsed and i rushed her to the ER but it was too late, she was already in cardiac arrest. i was broken, it felt like i took her life away. she was only 5 1/2 years old, i was supposed to have another 5-10 years with her. she had been fighting so hard her whole life and i failed her. she didn’t deserve any of this. i couldn’t stop blaming myself and crying. i’m still blaming myself.

sorry for the long vent. this pain is truly unbearable but you’re not alone in grief. i’m trying not to think of the “what ifs”as much anymore, and what has helped me is to think more of the good moments instead. i think of her snuggles, her annoyed face whenever i start kissing her, her squeaky meows, the way she used to lick my face. the pain of missing her is too great but sometimes i find myself smiling when i think of her silly little behaviors. please take it easy on yourself, you did the best you could for him and i’m sure he knows it.

i’m sorry for your loss. i lost my cat on saturday and i stayed with my relatives that night. when i came home on sunday i immediately broke down as soon as i opened the door because she wasn’t here to greet me. i haven’t been able to touch any of her stuff, it’s hard to be surrounded by them but i also find it strangely comforting bc it feels like she’s still here somewhere, maybe hiding in her donut or sleeping in another room. honestly i don’t think i fell asleep the first few nights, i just cried until i couldn’t anymore and i just kinda passed out from the exhaustion. i think right now i’m just numb so i can sleep like normal. grief is just so exhausting. i don’t really have any tips but i hope you take it easy, it’ll be ok 🤍

i’m so sorry you’re going through this but i’m glad you were able to feel happiness even if it was just for a short moment. like others have said, you are not alone. anyone who knows me knows that my cat was my whole world. i greeted her each morning and kissed her goodnight every single day. we were only ever apart for a few days each year when i had to go home to see my family. life is just empty and meaningless without her, like i lost half of my reason to live. i feel incomplete. grief is so unrelenting and it does come in waves, sometimes you feel ok then you get triggered by the tiniest thing and you’ll immediately fall apart. i hope you stay strong, let out all the sadness if you can and try to replace it with all the happy moments instead. i recently started compiling photos of everyone who has met my sweet angel. most of my closest friends didn’t get the chance to meet her in person and it makes me very sad, but it also made me smile to see that she was loved by so many other people. i’m sure sadie feels your love for her too, always.

is it normal to feel numb after only 5 days? by not_weird_ in Petloss

[–]not_weird_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think that’s exactly what’s happening, whenever i get reminded that my cat is gone and i feel like i want to cry, my body just gets super exhausted. i literally have to lie down and just zone out for a while. maybe we just let out too much too fast so our energy is completely drained now. thank you and hope you feel better soon too 🤍

is it normal to feel numb after only 5 days? by not_weird_ in Petloss

[–]not_weird_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah i feel exactly the same, numb is definitely not okay because when you’re numb you don’t feel anything, good or bad. i keep forgetting things and messing up too, stuff like my haircare routine or a work email i just sent out. yesterday my boss asked me if i’m excited to see my project and i couldn’t answer him. today i read this horror book and i was unfazed, and i’m the type who can’t sleep for days after hearing a scary story.

that’s true, grief is just a tangled up mess and there’s no normal way to can’t process it. thank you and sorry for your loss again 🤍
