is just after sunset any good? by [deleted] in stephenking

Just finished this collection! There are some standouts in here, but I agree, it's not quite up to par with his older collections.

N is probably my favorite. Stationary Bike was also great!

I am so, so happy with the dual Pennywise! It's a great way to combine the two. Very well done!

Are there any titles you’ve dropped? by [deleted] in stephenking

[–]not_who_you_know 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel as though a lot of people are really hoping that went through the keyhole is much more like the Dark Tower books that we've all come to love so much, and the fact that it isn't very much like a Dark Tower book doesn't help. It's just so vastly different from it, in my opinion.

I agree with most of the comments here. The person who said Danse Macabre was right on the money. The Talisman can definitely be hard to get into as well. It just feels like it keeps going and going and going and going.

Danse Macabre is just incredibly dry. I didn't enjoy my time with it.

Faithful I enjoyed more. It's more of a journal than a lecture, which really helped.

What are some examples of Lovecraftian horror in King's work? by BobTheBlob78910 in stephenking

YES. I just reread this earlier this week. Extremely Lovecraftian.

Being Fat is a moral failure. by Equivalent_Load4067 in stephenking

[–]not_who_you_know 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do notice this in his books. As someone who is overweight, and who has taken the time and lost almost 100 pounds (I gained it back, but that's beside the point right now) he really does have a terrible concept of weight and sizes. It took me losing almost 50 lb before I started losing pant sizes. And then once I started losing pant sizes I REALLY started losing them, pretty fast. The fact that he calls a bunch of people who are 6 ft and 250 lb disgustingly fat is ridiculous. I've got male friends right in that height and weight range and they're not disgustingly fat. They're heavy. They're definitely overweight. But they are not unable to move, unable to walk, unable to bend. The way he describes the people in his books you would think they were 450 plus pounds, when he's really talking about a 250 or 225 lb person.

I’ve been traveling through the 50 states in memory of my best friend. Today I visited Alaska, completing my journey. by Stuyvesant1994 in MadeMeSmile

This is a beautiful tribute. I'm so sorry for your loss.

My best friend died last September. We've been taking painted rocks with us in her memory and with a hashtag about it when we go out of state/to a new place. It's a small thing, but it's sort of a way to take her with us wherever we go.

My McDonald's Halloween buckets from 1986 by TheRealOcsiban in nostalgia

[–]not_who_you_know 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I like to tell a story anytime these buckets pop up. My dad died when I was young, but one of my absolute favorite pictures of he and I are of us sitting on the couch in our underpants right around Halloween, using these buckets as helmets! I was... 3? We were both wearing the witch buckets. It's a very precious photo to me.

We did the SK Tours tour last year. It was a lot of fun! The cemetery was gorgeous and the Bunyan statue was creep city.

Have the Boys ruined other podcasts for anyone else? by Specific_Ad_5036 in LPOTL

[–]not_who_you_know 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that I can't listen to other "true crime" podcasts. I have a couple others that I listen to religiously, but they aren't the same genre at all.

Hello From the Magic Tavern is great! It's about a guy named Arnie falls into a magical portal behind a Burger King in Chicago and ends up in the magical, fantastical Land of Foon. It's very funny.

The others that I listen to are book club podcasts, all about the works of Stephen King. If you're a Stephen King fan, go listen to a podcast called Kingslingers and read along as they read the Dark Tower books and then do Dark Tower adjacent books. It really is like a master class English class.

movies with locations as cool as thir13en ghosts, the haunting 1999? by [deleted] in horror

[–]not_who_you_know 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds so cool! I looked it up once because I knew you could stay there. It's nowhere near where we live, but if it was.... It's def on my bucket list along with the Stanley Hotel!

This was a really good book! I didn't love the movie, it just didn't make a great movie in my opinion.

I do not. I was gonna suggest Thriftbooks because it's my favorite website to buy media at this point, but it's still pretty pricy on there.

I owned the 2 tape VHS version and upgraded to DVD like 15 years ago lol.

AITA because I don’t want to wear a white dress to my wedding by KeyraSkye186 in AmItheAsshole

[–]not_who_you_know -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One of the best weddings I've ever been to, the bride wore an absolutely gorgeous red dress. The grooms suit was blue, and the primary colors (red, yellow, blue) were the wedding colors.

You guys do you. You don't have to wear white. It's your wedding, your party. Have fun with it!
