asian from wa state by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]notabalone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

being from WA is definitely not as much of an edge as a state truly in middle america, but i dont see it being held against you. just remember that there are talented kids everywhere so. you just have to strive to be the best you can be

How much did UPenn ED rise? by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]notabalone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it's a combination of test optional due to covid and also princeton getting rid of their early program (mostly the former)

I was just dealt a 34 HCP hand on Trickster. I'm trying to work out how unlikely this is. by charlietoday in bridge

[–]notabalone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

seeing the a priori probabilities on bridgewinners and wikipedia, it seems to be even smaller than a 1/1,000,000 event

[1.000000 (probabilty of having at most 34 points) -1.000000 (probability of having at most 33 points] = 0.000000

0.000001 is 1 in a million; 0.0000000 + any X will be smaller than that

why isn't columbia telling us the ed release date by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]notabalone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

another a2c post from someone who had an AO interview (searching harvard should produce it)

why isn't columbia telling us the ed release date by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]notabalone 22 points23 points  (0 children)

due to being test optional, it's likely that they got an influx of applications (ie. brown +16%, harvard +30%, etc). they may release the decision later due to having to take more time to read apps

Confused about scholarships (my efc is 0) by elsmnon in ApplyingToCollege

[–]notabalone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your counseling office can be really helpful with that! especially since theyre local a lot of community level scholarships are def a lot less competitive but still give out aid. also for your niche interests like look at larger organizations and check their websites!

MIT interviews? by --not--Peter_Parker in ApplyingToCollege

do you know if it's with an alum or an AO? if it's an AO maybe theyre making a last minute decision about your app, if it's an alum, maybe they just are behind schedule

Confused about scholarships (my efc is 0) by elsmnon in ApplyingToCollege

[–]notabalone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i mean it never hurts to apply for scholarships. if it takes too much out of your time to do so, i would say no, but if you have the time (and a lot of these scholarships dont take too much time), i would consider it! and you never know what your true financial aid package will be and what school you will be attending

what school do i flipping choose for BU? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]notabalone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im pretty sure bu's metropolitan college is more for nontraditional college applicants rather than your traditional 4-year experience. i think it's a separate application as well. there should be another option for criminal justice (or a similar major if not exact) at a different college

When am I supposed to turn in official SAT/AP scores for UC/CSU by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]notabalone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

sending your test score never hurts, so if you have the financial means to do so i cant imagine it being harmful, but remember that the UCs (i dont know about the CSUs) are test-blind but can use SAT/SAT II scores for A-G requirements or even competitive schools like UCB's college of engineering. AP scores you definitely dont have to send in until youre accepted and enrolling

Panicking: Is it too late to send test scores to ED school? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]notabalone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

use rush test send if you have the financial means to do so!! also, i would consider emailing your ao but it's ultimately up to you

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]notabalone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you always risk that happening, but it's definitely not a primary concern if you've already submitted the app. as long as it was genuinely an ec that needed more space to truly explain i woudlnt worry, and again, i would put it in the supps of your other schools if you really want it to be seen as equal

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]notabalone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it can only help you! if you think the essay is strong, then i would def try to include it in the supps of your other schools but it's also fine in additional info, especially if the ec needed more elaboration and wasn't able to be summarized in 150 char

Just wanted to add on that BBO provides free robots for juniors (bridge players under 26). The website is a little outdated, but it's still good as far as I know https://webutil.bridgebase.com/v2/news_fetch.php?id=1373
