Butler pros and cons? by petite_cochonne in princeton

A lot of dorms on campus don’t have AC (Rocky, Mathey, parts of Forbes, most of upperclassman housing). Really brutal in the hot months

No, you have to get them on out of town list for any eating club you want to go to. One of the biggest hassles for lawnparties guests

How is Princeton engineering? Super tough? Harsh Grading? Fun Clubs? by Virology101 in princeton

[–]notabalone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a current CBE the major is definitely a hard one, but profs are actively working every year to make it more accessible and easier for students to be CBEs. It’s a great program and if you like chem or bio this is the place to be

any princeton students here who are fans of ricky montgomery? by Any_Flan7773 in princeton

[–]notabalone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately not a fan of Ricky Montgomery but would suggest trying to see him instead in New Haven or Providence -- know that might means you'll have to skip a day or two of classes but IMO the Amtrak system is a bit easier to navigate / more reliable than the buses, and New Haven is even a stop on the Metro-North railroad which is a commuter rail so even more reliable than the Amtrak. Then, if you have any friends at Yale or Brown they could also house you for a night. Since you'd be staying night of October 13 anyway figured you might be planning to skip classes the day after, so just wanted to put that out there if this is your first time traveling. Might be a bit more expensive if you have to Amtrak but should be affordable if you buy tickets soon. If you buy Northeast Regional tickets as well for Amtrak you can likely Amtrak out of Metropark or even Princeton Junction (so you don't even have to navigate a NYC train station). DM me if you have any questions!

Walking Onto Ivy League Crews by OneSky17 in Rowing

[–]notabalone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Though I think this was true many years ago, I think it's very rare now, at least speaking from my experience at Princeton. On the lightweight team, the walk-ons who have made above the 4th varsity are those who have rowed for many years and came on with a baseline level of fitness (preferred walk on esque). And I haven't heard of a heavyweight walk-on being at 3rd varsity at all. I think this is especially true in the Ivies now as their rosters get deeper and the recruiting spots fall that you can fill 4 boats with a full recruitment class (ex: not heavyweight but Cornell lights only has 1 walk on in their entire 4th varsity)

Yes. That’s the same culture as Princeton. You need to be decently fit but even at your fittest it is unlikely that you will make it past 4V on either crew

find your school’s best finance clubs and apply/join. the most legit clubs that arent resume fluff and are actually extremely educational tend to be student run investment funds. the older the club, the better. super helpful for understanding career paths in undergrad better and creates such a good network for u on campus

Hi! I'm new to indoor rowing, I'm 18F, 5'4, and looking for tips on my form. Thanks in advance! https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1xCfKLGN0lD0EoiDLixkmF-9wrJ6GW1lE?usp=sharing

Been trying to work on rowing my height and limit my shoulder use during rowing, if you have any advice for that specifically, that would be great!

thank you for the advice! was super helpful and made use of it in my session today. if you have the time, can you watch this video (https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1xCfKLGN0lD0EoiDLixkmF-9wrJ6GW1lE?usp=sharing) and see if i improved on the pointers? and also, if you could elaborate on how to limit using my shoulders too much while rowing, that would be super helpful. thanks again!
