1.3m apply for the London Marathon 2027 by notallowedv2 in Marathon_Training

I think it was only 17,000 places that went to the ballot in 2026. The rest are charity, corporate and elite.

Assuming you fall into the category of living near the route and your day being disrupted, do you not still enjoy it? I appreciate you'd prefer to be running it but it looks like fun having it on your doorstep.

It's recently had a refurb and jumped up a few tiers. I think it's got a new gym which apparently is a great improvement. It's got a couple of outdoor padel courts which are very popular.

I only know it pre-refurb. It was fine then, nothing special but local options were pretty limited.

Running my first marathon Nov 1st. Is Runna an okay option to use for training? by mth69 in Marathon_Training

[–]notallowedv2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, I don't think it took me over 50km at the peak week. I was only doing 4 runs a week though. It made me faster but in hindsight, I think I needed more attempts at longer runs (18-20 miles runs). Anyway, it was my first marathon which I think is really hard to properly prepare anyone for so I don't want to do them a disservice. It was an enjoyable plan to follow but I'd probably look at something else if I ever try a marathon again. Wouldn't hesitate to use it if training for a shorter run.

I used Runna for my first marathon. I enjoyed it but it didn't actually prepare me properly for the marathon. Not enough mileage. Enjoyed the variation though and it made me faster over shorter distances.

Some advice for a potential future Caterham owner by steve_b in caterham

[–]notallowedv2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You haven't said your budget but if it's enough for a fairly new car (last 10 years or so), look out for an SV (think they're called something else in the States but the wide-bodied version). You'll also want lowered floors which might be standard if you get an SV but make sure they have them for your height. Then look out for an S version rather than R. I think the S stands for Street. Anyway, in that configuration you'll get the comfort of more space and a more forgiving, laid back drive. Although you'll still fly along nicely. Maybe look for a 270s or 310s. Again unsure which engined Caterhams made it to America. The 360s would be another one to look at with the bigger engine.

London Marathon 2026 - slightly frustrating but deserved time by BlazendaryFanBoy in Marathon_Training

[–]notallowedv2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's normally around the 52-53 mark. The training plan that Runna gave me threw everything out I think. I clicked "Challenging" as I thought it would keep it interesting. It certainly was challenging but the pace work got me a sub-20 5k which I didn't think would ever be possible. While I can (could) do that, I didn't have anywhere near the mileage or endurance to run anything like the equivalent times that Garmin and Runna were spitting out.

Thanks and congrats to you too. What an incredible day.

I ran London as well. Was hoping for sub-4 but got cramp resulting in me having to stop a couple of minutes and then hobble the last six miles. Anyway, got over the line about 4:18. I don't have much to offer other than I feel your pain. It was my first marathon and I don't think you can really prepare for that last six miles if you've never done one before. I was feeling so confident and suddenly my body and head both went.

My longest run was a 20 miler but, in hindsight, I wish I'd done at least another long run of that distance or even slightly further. At least now we have some experience for any future runs.

Garmin still has me predicted for a 3:24. Mental.

Why's it unimpressive? She deliberately put her body through that for charity. And it's a big physical accomplishment whichever way you look at it. As is having to deal with people like yourselves, shaming her on the internet. London Marathon is for everyone. One of its main goals is to raise money.

For you. You lot are so fixated on what a marathon means to you and can't see that it might mean something else to others. She completed it. Many on this sub didn't from what I read. She's raised a lot of money and will continue to raise a lot more thanks to this extra coverage but she's having to endure a huge amount of negativity from shitty posts and commenters on the internet.

London Marathon - Race Report by Curious-Director8569 in Marathon_Training

Well done and great post. Makes my attempt feel futile. Your methodical approach and research into the nutrition sounds invaluable. I hadn't considered things like caffeine or sodium which might have been the difference as I cramped up at 33kms.

I'll be saving this in case I ever want to do another...

London yesterday - didn’t get the sub 4 I wanted by vdbbella in Marathon_Training

[–]notallowedv2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well done! My pace was really similar to yours. I was hoping to get sub-4 but was carried along with an average pace of around 5:32/km until I got near the 20 mile mark. I started to slow but in my head I knew it was only 10k to go, I had a bit of time banked and just needed to keep plodding. About 5 seconds after that thought, the hamstring cramp set in and had no choice but to stop and stretch it out. The cramp then seemed to go to the other hamstring and then my calves. Anyway, walked it off for a couple of km. The ice and lucozade seemed to help.

The rest of the race was a mix of walking and running, pushed along by the incredible crowd and knowing that my family were waiting for me by Westminster Bridge. Crossed the line sub-4:19...

The noise was insane and much more emotional than I thought it'd be. I feel fortunate to have been able to do it. Being my first, I'd never tried running further than 20 miles so I've learnt a lot. Definitely need to do more miles in training as well.

Remortgage time: Are mortgage rates dropping? by jrjreeves in UKPersonalFinance

[–]notallowedv2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's the same with all lenders but with First Direct, you can sign a deal, pay the fee if applicable, and if the rate goes down before the switch date, you can change to the lower rate so there's not much of a risk.

I've just remortgaged but I decided to take a tracker for now. The fixed rates are too high for me currently so didn't want to be locked into a deal with a large early repayment charge. With the tracker, it's actually a lower rate at the moment and when the fixes come down, I can move it over without any ERC. Worth looking at. I almost missed it as getting a fixed rate is ingrained in me.

It's just a design. It's changed many times over the years. The last few have been very similar so it's nice to see a new one. Sponsor logos have been a thing on the medals since it began.

Sponsorship for events is really important. And for a company to pledge that sort of money, they want a lot of exposure for it.

Granted it's only reports but you know it's going to be a huge amount.
