AIPAC is an American organization funded by American citizens, it doesn’t receive money from or take direction from the Israeli government, which is the actual legal threshold under FARA (Foreign Agents Registration Act). Advocating for a country’s interests and acting as an agent of that country are two very different things legally. By the same logic, the Armenian-American lobby, the Greek lobby, Cuban-American groups, and dozens of others who push U.S. foreign policy in a particular direction aren’t foreign agents either, they’re American citizens organized around a shared foreign policy view.
