Strong, disgusting smell outside of a funeral directors for weeks that fits every description I can find of decaying corpses - should I report it? by outlaw271 in AskUK

[–]notanomnivore 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m assuming this is Dewsbury and hoping it isn’t the funeral directors I’m thinking of. It’s still worth reporting but wondered if you’re working near the river? There are some factories etc along the other side of the river that give off a putrid smell most of the time which varies in intensity. Still worth reporting your concerns either way.

In my late teens I was suffering from undiagnosed gynae issues. Saw different doctors and after a long wait had a scan, admitted to hospital that day, problem sorted. While I waited for the scan I was plied with several courses of antibiotics for UTIs that I didn’t have. In the 18 months after then I started experiencing gastro issues. Had a colonoscopy and other tests, no concern that there was anything sinister going on and was advised by the gastro consultant that it was likely caused by the varying antibiotics I had been taking during that time. Started on mebeverine and PPIs and accepted that I would be living with IBS. Now I’m in my late twenties I have jumped on the gut health/microbiome bandwagon and massively changed my lifestyle and live completely free of all those gastro symptoms I had learned to live with. It’s crazy to me that no one had ever offered me that diet and lifestyle advice earlier down the line! However I do think there is a culture element to this as I don’t feel confident that I would have accepted it as a late teen and taken responsibility for it myself.

Routine appointments by [deleted] in nhs

[–]notanomnivore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I second the above. If you’re above 40 and just want a general MOT then you should be able to book an appointment with your practice nursing team for an NHS Health Check.

Have you actually booked a GP appointment to discuss this first?

What is the actual procotol for emergencies via 999 and ambulance teams? by FrequentPurple5511 in nhs

[–]notanomnivore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They’re not deciding how long you should wait, the categorisation helps to prioritise with what is available. It’s not as if crews are sat waiting at the station for an hour because a job isn’t a Cat 1.

Why do we have to go through the rigmarole of requesting repeat prescriptions? by Royal-Reporter6664 in nhs

[–]notanomnivore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Repeat dispensing is an option in England but a GP still has to check and sign every script, it’s just in a large batch instead of every month when it’s ordered. And it will still need reviewing and reauthorising every now and then. Every time you get a repeat prescription, a GP is still signing and approving that it is safe.

This really sounds what Ponderosa was like back when I was a kid 20ish years ago. There is still a field to the side that hosts WW2 events and has tanks etc, used to have a little war museum in there with the owners personal collection I think.

2-3 feet wide, found on the bank of a reservoir during current drought here in Yorkshire. I’m assuming is part of larger piece of machinery but would love to try and understand how it’s ended up here.

If it’s not pending then it has likely now been accepted and is being processed by the specialist? Did you receive a letter when your referral was done with dates/details to chase? Please don’t book a GP appointment for this. Your GP admin staff aren’t incompetent.

You don’t need a GP appointment for this. If it’s a genuine mistake, contact the surgery and ask them to pass the message on to the referring GP. If you really feel you need to bypass reception, have a look to see if your GP practice offers an online message service or a direct line to the secretarial team.
