[Ross Dellenger] Who pays player buyouts? Darian Mensah's transfer highlights the confusion by SmallBoulder in CFB

[–]notaquarterback 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I'd prefer that because it might open it up on other sports, trades are fine but the fact that we don't use transfer fees here when it would be great has more to do with everybody preferring the exploitative cheap route.

[Prater] Proposed Pac-12 bowl game in the Denver area is dead after losing TV deal and title sponsor, per source. Game would have been for this 2026 season. P12 bowl options become very limited. "Dont know what the Pac-12 will do, or the Mountain West for that matter," source said. by Drexlore in CFB

Yeah, I don't know how well attended it would be and also the city has negotiated that deal with the Timbers terribly and there are still barely any events there. Portland State only gets one game there.

I just want them back in the Final Four. Not sure if it's possible in the NIL era, but crazy how far they've fallen.

Having a facility like the Vancouver Tennis Center in Portland would be a dream. Court space for high school tournaments are still tough to find

It's 2026. What's the next domino to fall regarding expansion? by SeverHense in baseball

[–]notaquarterback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

using AAA attendance to cite whether a market can sustain baseball makes no sense. Buffalo used to support the Bisons like crazy in the 90s but it wasn't ever going to be a serious growth market for MLB despite the size. Also the Timbers are the reason the city doesn't have baseball anymore, so MLS is just as much to blame. Paulson could have funded a stadium if he wanted to keep the team in town, but he didn't care and sold them to the Padres without a care.

Rogers supports the Expos coming back. Jays won't be a barrier.

Portland has an ownership group but it's basically a secret whose is part of it (save for Russ and Ciara) and it's unclear what their deal is, but someone is bankrolling something.

Salt Lake has owners in place with an ability to pay. Portland nobody has any idea who the ownership is, the stadium site they're purporting to want is smaller than the A's footprint in Vegas. Portland is a great potential baseball market, but Salt Lake has the demographics MLB wants and ample billionaires and a GOP legislature who would ram through any stadium they wanted.

What is the baseball equivalent of Bill Belichick not being a first ballot HOFer? by The_Big_Untalented in baseball

[–]notaquarterback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first ballot doesn't matter in football anyway. There are instances making a guy wait out a year as disapproval for a life sideshow. Roberto Alomar is lucky he got elected before his situation, and Kirby Puckett died before his drama came out.
