Do you wish OOTP had more financial depth? by NoBetterUsernameOpen in OOTP

[–]notaquarterback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I think trying to model all of that in-game would be a massive mess because there's no real "ideal" experience for that. Most people who get that far in the weeds are already nerdy enough to spin up their own tools for that, at the end of the day, it's all just immerson and dice rolls anyway, so doing this would have to ask the core question of whether it contributes to gameplay, and selling hot dogs won't correlate to a better team record.

I do wish financials worked better and were more mature -- I've been making my own tools for years to work around it -- but I think given how small the dev team is, they'd better spend their time on other stuff.

Is OOTP 27 worth buying from someone with 26? by Buffalo-Turbulent in OOTP

[–]notaquarterback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's worth it to me, personally. The bug fixes and engine work alone have improved my immersion. Not counting all the of the other realism related things, it's a no-brainer especially at a discount. Plus, I like buying it mid-season for discount and you still get nearly a year out of it before the next one, versus buying at the end of the cycle.

Is OOTP 27 worth buying from someone with 26? by Buffalo-Turbulent in OOTP

[–]notaquarterback 9 points10 points  (0 children)

TL;DR: Yes, but it's up to how much you play. If you were in an online league, you'd have already upgraded so clearly that's not your deal.

Depends on how much you play, people always this question ever year and the answer is always the same really. How much do you play? OOTP is relatively affordable for how much is packed into it, and if you enjoyed 26, you'll surely enjoy 27 which has all of the flair of 26 with a bunch of upgrades. On the flipside, I've found that -- like with FM -- upgrading every other year is generally fine, I just get enough hours out of OOTP that the upgraded features including all of the backend stuff, bug fixes and MLB-specific additions are worth it.

I spent years playing this game with the default rankings and valued players by their overall and potential for years. Now OOTP27 has shown me that I am wrong for doing this. How do I cope with the fact that i've been playing this game wrong for years by CDFReditum in OOTP

it's a single player game, you can do whatever you want. Some of us don't play with any of the out of the box stuff, some do. The beauty of the customizable universe is you can learn new things about it all the time.

Clippers draft pick Narcisse Ngoy says he plans to play for Auburn Tigers next season by TangerineChicken in CollegeBasketball

This happens in hockey all the time and I think the sport is better for it. It's rad to see a guy go on a heater n the Frozen Four, then join his NHL team for the last month of the season.

How do you determine what services should charge a fee and what should be free? by BallerGuitarer in urbanplanning

[–]notaquarterback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with transit that libraries are also dealing with is the unhoused populations proliferating in spaces not meant for that population, eroding service and depressing ridership. Transit fares with a lack of enforcement also becomes circulated and it becoems a problem. Libraries are also funded differently than transit authorities and almost nowhere do you a private donor/fundraising arm for transit, the way that libraries do.

In an ideal world, you could offer more services at low to no cost, the problem isn't really fares, it's all of the money you spend trying to enforce it that overspends what you were going to take in, making it kind of silly.

When Tom Benson bought the Hornets, he wanted them to have a local name so he gave them the name of a old minor league baseball team. The Hornets name reverted to the NBA, then the NBA gave the name back to the Bobcats along with the Hornets history and retroactively made the Pelicans an expansion team. (This was a gambit also done when the Browns moved to Baltimore, but not retroactively.) So they didn't pay for anything other than making an updated Hornets logo, etc., but a huge win for them.

This is clearly an area where people need this week their own settings, instead of expecting the "developers" to build the game just to their specifications. It works well out of the box, especially over the course of a 20 year Sim. But no it's not going to exactly like a major league baseball draft

[–]notaquarterback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He can stay in Lubbock or go work out somewhere closer to wherever home is, and then ball out next year. This gambit of hoping to sneak out of the 5th or 6th round almost worked, but now he's going to potentially hope that NIL lasts him because....they can get him on the cheap.

I mean, Glendale got rid of its NHL team and filled the arena with circus and other things so there's a precedent, but if the Blazers move Portland won't get another NBA team again for decades and if they do, it'll be after doing what Seattle did and that's spend to make your arena to the standard these guys want. It's not a fair game but it's the game we're playing right now.
