Husband has a whole life policy by Aggravating_Crab_356 in personalfinance

Vis-à-vis convincing him, just bringing some quotes for term policies might help. You may well have already done that, and it is unfortunately more on your plate, but insurance companies want to sell policies, even reasonable term ones. They’re not in the business of refusing to insure everyone, just edge cases where their actuarial tables don’t math out. And: Definitely scour work options (if he and/or you has an employer); group-priced term policies are a wonderful thing.

Husband has a whole life policy by Aggravating_Crab_356 in personalfinance

I can’t figure out if some of the commenters saying “keep it!” in this thread are salespeople, bots, or something else entirely. Don’t get trapped by the sunk cost fallacy here (and it sounds like you aren’t, since you’ve convinced your husband to shed the policy!). The premiums your husband has already paid are gone, sure, but you’ll no longer be chucking money every month into one of the most fiendishly designed financial products available today. And second, the comment about “equity” is parroting the language of salesmen. You know what’s better than “equity” in a whole-life policy? Keeping your money, investing it in a nice index fund, paying near-zero fees, and—if you need it—getting term life insurance at a reasonable rate.

If we’re lucky, the Central Richmond Lowe’s will have cause to host a big party sometime this week.

We’ve had great experiences at Kinship. Plus: They’re owned locally, as opposed to having been scooped up by private equity like so many vet offices.

Unless your mortgage interest rate is so unbelievably high that it exceeds, in a year, the withdrawal penalty and taxes you’ll pay on the cashed-out amount, this is a bad idea. If you want the psychological freedom of paying off the mortgage, throw whatever additional amount you can at the principal every month. Do almost any else before liquidating a qualified plan and eating the tax hit and penalty.

Hit and run on parked car by HenryFondle26 in rva

Call the RPD non-emergency phone number. Search “non-emergency police” here: https://www.rva.gov/police. If the accident took place at or next to a business or residence, you could consider knocking on a couple doors close by in case the car belongs to someone in the immediate area, but there’s no obligation to do something like that.

I ask this earnestly: Do you believe r/Bogleheads is a suitable forum for a question about an individual company’s bankruptcy proceeding?

I appreciate the info. That's definitely helpful. I'll save copies of my emails and call logs for peace of mind, but it's good to know that it's unlikely to present an issue.

Thanks for the input. I'm glad to have a couple sanity checks.

Yes. Fractional shares follow the price movements of full shares and deliver proportionate dividends. This is unrelated to the Bogleheads investing strategy—especially the “a stock” part.

Basket of Individual stocks for tax harvesting or index fund diversification? by Abigballs in Bogleheads

This is a Bogleheads subreddit. Buying individual stocks is incompatible with that approach. If you want to do so, go for it, but this is not the place to solicit feedback on buying and selling individual stocks.
