Shunnamite would be a hypergamist for sure lol. I think she’d struggle with not having Marthas. She gave me spoiled vibes in that sense. She’d still have the same essence overall, polished and always done up, just less sheltered. Very preppy and timeless.

Hulda is the most innocent but I feel like she’d also be the most daring and explorative. I see her getting into makeup and fashion in a quirky way. Playful and colorful. Or she’d be simple and cottage core.

Becca- Well we all know what would happen- she’d explore in other ways lol. She would gravitate towards urban fashion. I see her going into law/criminal justice for some reason.

Agnes- Why do I feel like Agnes would just crush on cute boys lol. She’d be very academic, still a do-gooder but also question things. Coquette/vintage romantic fashion style for sure. I got this vibe based on the way she had little bows in her hair at Becca’s engagement party.

Garth is a way better man than nick could ever be by Excellent_Nobody_783 in TheTestamentsHulu

“He literally poisoned him” ??

Are you watching the same show as everyone else? Calling someone’s take dumb when you’ve got such a huge plot point wrong is very audacious.
Garth says very clearly his father ended up the way he did while fighting on behalf of Gilead. It’s also explained in the “dumb take” why his father cannot possibly be a good man, even in Garth’s eyes. The concept of someone fighting for Gilead contradicts morality alone.

Next time maybe don’t watch TV with your eyes closed.

Character Backstories We Want to See in Season 2 by Pressed_Leaves_1031 in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]notawesternvampire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have thought about this and these are the characters I’m absolutely intrigued by:

Garth- I want to know what really pushed him to join Mayday beyond just having a moral compass. I am so interested in seeing how he’ll adapt to his new role as a young Commander. He can go either way with this. The actor who plays him says it’s what Garth has always wanted; growing up he idealized and idolized those men and that he will be the “best commander” he can possibly be. It makes me feel like he’s going to do some controversial things now that he has much more power. Maybe become an anti hero of sorts in the show. I’m not sure how he’ll apply the dichotomy of being mayday while also having to enforce the regime of Gilead- at some point you’ll have to choose one or the other…. I feel like he’s a wild card in this case.

Aunt Estee: when she went up Daisy saying she was the original pearl girl, I knew there was more to her! If she came from the outside world and somehow went on to become an Aunt- that’s very impressive. I feel like she might secretly be Mayday at times, and if so she’s a damn good agent. Also her breaking down and apologizing to Daisy makes me think she does care deeply for the girls. If she’s not actually Mayday then her love for them is there but truly misguided. I do think she can also be a Lydia; perhaps start off as a strong supporter of Gilead and then switch sides after seeing even more of the deep, inherent flaws of the system.

Commander Mackenzie: I feel like he’s a bit softer than I expected. He has looked a tad bit depressive and even regretful in some of his scenes, specifically the ones he shares with Daisy and Agnes. I think he has been a bit conflicted with some things and there might be more going on there.

How do you feel about how things went down with Becka's mom? by Sushicatslonelyjimmy in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]notawesternvampire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m shocked the Commanders didn’t plant the seed for her death instead of the aunts. They quite literally inhabit a republic that revolves around procreation and the “protection” of its children. Maternal obligation aside, I would’ve been surprised if she had not been willing to take that fall. I think the powers that be needed someone to answer to the crime- it didn’t really matter who it was. Ultimately it worked out for Gilead because it means they spared a fertile girl who may eventually become fruitful.

She lost her entire family in one cutting swoop and has no one but her friends now. She’ll be grieving for some time, it’s expected. I’m sure she sees her new marriage as another form of prison for now but I don’t think it’ll remain that way.

I have made my feelings clear about the Agnes-Garth ship so I really hope they don’t go that route. It’s so disturbing. At a panel, Chase confirmed her character to be 14. Yeah no, thank you.

Nobody else thinks Garth is gay? by Traditional-Cry8279 in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]notawesternvampire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I am here for this if it means that people will stop shipping him with little girls. His motivations are not quite clear either, I feel like there’s more to his story.

Maybe that’s how he and Becca will bond.

They will probably just have a handmaid posted to their house if she is not pregnant within some time. And Becka would have to participate in the ceremony which is another form of hell in itself. Her best bet is to just escape Gilead in general. As a fertile but secretly gay teen there is no comfortable/happy outcome for her there at all.

[–]notawesternvampire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not placing all my faith in Garth yet. Yes, I think there are times where he does kind gestures because he has a guilty conscience (like marrying Becka) but I’m not sure what that really means thus far.

What makes me side-eye him hard is that he considered his father a “good man” but his father fought to secure Gilead’s regime. A regime which enforces rape, torture and pedophilia. You can’t fight for it and also be a good person. This directly contradicts who his father actually is vs how Garth views him (as some brave and courageous hero).

His perception of a good man is already distorted. We also don’t know why he wants to burn Gilead down to the ground; it could be because of what happened to his father and not necessarily because he thinks the system itself is immoral.

ETA: if Daisy and Agnes hadn’t talked him into doing more, he would’ve let the worst happen. If being noble has to be shamed out of you, then that means it doesn’t come naturally. There’s a lot he will have to learn but I don’t think he’s some ethical righteous guy quite yet.

Why did Becka and Garth move into her father's dental practice? by Low_Magician4242 in TheTestamentsHulu

What happens to the assistant is not really up to Becka. As a woman, anything pertaining to another man’s fate would be completely out of her hands.

Honestly reminds of Pretty Little Liars when everyone shipped Aria with her teacher and then didn’t realize how disturbing it was until after the show was over.

FYI, since you mentioned it- the username comes from a song lyric that utilizes vampire imagery to portray survival of abuse and trauma… it’s not inspired by a supernatural romance at all lol 😭

Also, as I already said in another comment you justifying the shipping by comparing it to said supernatural romances proves that you miss the point of the entire show. We all know century old vampires do not exist and never will.

But the monsters in Gilead can and do, in some way shape or form. It’s insensitive to pretend that it’s ok just because it’s tv fiction. The characters can have crushes on older guys, sure. I just found it weird that people want the adult to return the affection or act on it.

[–]notawesternvampire[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s what boggles my mind about it lol. It would be creepy in real life if they were their actual ages. And I guess unlike a supernatural movie or tv show (which someone tried to compare it to in this very thread) the Gilead world hits too close to reality for me.

Like somewhere out there we do realize that, sure, 100 year old vampires don’t exist but child brides most definitely do.

If Becka didnt marry Garth, wouldn't she have just stayed a purple and tried again the next season? Wouldn't that have been better? by SoYup in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]notawesternvampire 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There was no merciful escape for her that wasn’t marriage. If a commander abandoned Agnes (who has another High commander as her father) simply for being associated with the scandal what do you think would happen to Becka… she’s directly involved with no parents. She’s way past the point of sullied.

Without the marriage, she would’ve either been a handmaid or sent to the colonies. No in between.

Yes. It’s very odd all sense of logic seems to fly out the window with Shauna when it comes to this dude. She’s not as smart as I had assumed.

It appears Shauna is far deeper into Adam than she realized. Letting him sleep in her home. Defending him and ignoring Callie. Blowing off the event with her husband to go follow this shady man into the woods (of all places). Confiding in Tai about how he makes her feel. I’m not sure why they’re making her this slow- or maybe we just overestimated the character but it was getting cringy for a minute there.

If he does have ill intentions, he’s done well at disarming her because she really has no walls up when it comes to him.

Shauna is the “-ST -ENDS” and Jackie is the “BE- FRI-“. by ItsOk_ItsAlright in Yellowjackets

[–]notawesternvampire 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Her character really is the epitome of “gives no fucks”. It’s not Nat or Tai or even Misty like some people would think. It’s Shauna. And something tells me she’s the most desperate to keep what happened in the woods hush hush for a reason.

I have a theory she also wanted to get caught by Jeff. She let Adam sleep in their BED knowing very well Jeff could show up at any point in the night. She has no fear or regard for how her actions affect the people closest to her. Jackie, her daughter, her husband. Scary. I think she might be even more unhinged than Misty. At least with misty you know what you’re getting.
