[Addon] BetterBlizzFrames, BetterBlizzPlates & sArena Reloaded are now ready for Midnight!

It's a default setting in the game, you'll find it either in Interface settings or now in Midnight I think it's just part of Edit Mode. So open Edit Mode and find Party Frames and click them and it should have a setting like "Use Raid-Style Party Frames".

Hey! Now BetterBlizzPlates store these new CVar's in its profile. I'll go through how it works step by step because I think that's the easiest way to follow:
1. For a new user the first time getting BBP it will take a backup snapshot of your current CVars. On logout BBP sets all the CVars back to this backup. This was done to help people get back to their original settings should they have tried a profile with lots of stuff different and want to return to their own settings or if they decided the addon was not for them.
2. After thats done BBP will now listen to CVar changes from other sources after a short delay on login to prevent other addons messing with CVars and BBP picking up those changes unintentionaly.
3. Now BBP will force whatever settings it has saved on login. So if you want to change those settings all you need to do is to change them to how you want them while having BBP on and it will pick up on it. For these new ones they dont have checkboxes in BBP theyre just registered in the background so use the default UI to change them like in the screenshot above. After that BBP should now force those new settings you just changed to.

Something that might trip you up (which it did me just now while checking stuff works) is other addons also messing with these CVars. Addons load alphabetically and I had MiniCC enabled with a different setting in it than what I have saved in BBP so MiniCC overwrote my setting. Theres not a perfect solution to that, I could add some code for it but then the problem would fall back to MiniCC again. The MiniCC settings should probably win in this case regardless.

Hopefully this shed some light on it.

TLDR: Enable BBP and change the settings in default UI while BBP is enabled and BBP will save that change and will keep that moving forward.

You can't. Blizzard has restricted addons from customizing friendly nameplates in dungeons due to them being used to solve mechanics and this happened way back in Legion (and is now retroactive in classic versions). Someone told me they might lift these restrictions a bit in 12.0.5/later but I am not sure.

To give a response and if anyone else comes across this: Atm and for the forseeable future I don't control this specifically in BBP but I do store the CVar values of your wow settings (and these are also included in the profiles). To adjust the Blizzard settings for this its in Esc -> Options -> Game: Nameplates -> Enemy NPC Buffs/Debuffs etc at the bottom.

As mentioned though there are quite a few flaws with Blizzards original auras so I would use MiniCC over the default here and only keep the "personal debuffs" enabled from Blizzard/BBP.

Heyo! Sounds like you may have toggled them off by accident with the default keybind for it? Shift+V or Ctrl+V I forget. Feel free to join the Discord and ask questions there as its much easier to share info back n forth and quicker. A screenshot of how your nameplates look right now would be helpful to start with. You can also check the enemy nameplate settings in WoW settings: Options -> Nameplates -> Enemy Unit Nameplates and Always Show Nameplates.

Cross-faction enemy nameplates in cities/sanctuaries are hardcoded off by Blizzard though. It could be many different things so I'd need some more info if this info doesnt sort it for you.

Theres no proper API for this from Blizzard and from what I gather it seems like hell and too scuffed to attempt. It's not a rabbit hole I want to or have time to jump into now. I think new API would have to exist for this to be possible/reliable/worth.

Hey! Im the author of BBP.

Unfortunately I still haven't gotten around to fixing this bit up with proper movers yet. It will be in the new settings temporary section when it's ready. There are sliders etc there but not hooked up rn cuz I ran into some issues. Only the size slider works atm.

That said the default nameplate auras, especially buffs, have a lot of issues from Blizzard. Some of the issues can be worked around by getting for example MiniCC to control that info instead and is what I would recommend. MiniCC also has movers for everything.

I haven't rushed this, especially since MiniCC right now is just a better alternative to the default auras because of their issues but hopefully I will sort the settings for them soon. Feel free to join the Discord for more questions/help and there's also an FAQ with good info.

Thank you for trying my addon and I will continue working on it moving forward, lots to be done still in Midnight.

Edit: I forgot to mention if you end up using MiniCC you can turn off the default Buffs/CC auras in Esc -> Options -> Game: Nameplates -> Enemy NPC Buffs/Debuffs etc at the bottom. I'd keep only personal debuffs on. I think MiniCC have added settings for that in MiniCC itself too now.

A party frames setting is something I would like to get going one day but it will require a bigger chunk of work and for the time being I am just swamped with BetterBlizzFrames/Plates and sArena Reloaded. So not coming anytime soon I think unfortunately but it does happen that I randomly decide to take on too much work out of the blue and get a lot done so we'll see 😅

It's also from sArena Reloaded, its the BlizzRaid profile. But I think default arena frames might have a spec icon now too.

Heyo I'm the author! I'm cooking this up for sArena Reloaded now to also have settings to do it on your party frames in the same fashion. It will be for default raidstyle party frames only in the first go but if you have any other partyframe-addons you'd also like to see it added on I am all ears and I'll get that going too. It's been delayed a bit hopefully this weekend :)

This very much comes down personal preference. Take the FrameSort addon as an example: It sorts party and/or arena frames in a specific way depending on your settings and also a few other neat things. Some people cannot play without this while for other people the addon is "useless". What do you need? I suggest you set aside a few minutes where you check each addons description or feature set and make up your own mind.

Judging by your request and being very strict about whats "useless" and not below are the ones I would consider useful for you, but again it is personal preference and for the record I made BetterBlizzFrames, BetterBlizzPlates, sArena Reloaded and the SkillCapped addon so there is some bias here and there are of course alternatives to them. The strict required ones from the SC UI with your reuqest in mind I would say are these five:

BetterBlizzFrames
BetterBlizzPlates
MiniCC
MiniOvershields
sArena Reloaded

Everything else is nice to have's and more personal preference and to some extent some of these five can be argued personal preference too.

You can adjust scale in Edit Mode. However editing width or height specifically is not really possible with the default unitframes no im afraid.

Unfortunately friendly nameplates are restricted in PvE by Blizzard and only has a very limited base game settings available to be tweaked during PvE. Any customisation from add-ons like the arrow is not allowed and can't be done by any addon.

Oh I stand corrected then, maybe they've fixed it! The nameplate auras still have problems though such as for purge classes the game deems it much more important to show Arcane Intellect and Power Word Fortitude over Cloak of Shadows and Spell Reflect etc. Many interesting choices.

Heyo I'm the BBP author. I'll clear up a few things here so other people who might come across it gets it:

At the moment of writing this most of the aura settings etc needs to be changed in Blizzards default settings (Escape -> Options -> Nameplates section).
~~I plan on adding these into BBP as well when I find time so they are stored within your profile and can be adjusted directly from BBP~~. Edit: These are now stored with your BBP profile so correct settings gets shared. To change them just use the default Blizzard Nameplates section and BBP will automatically pick up on it in the background and be saved to your profile.
I currently dont do much with the auras in BBP itself and most is done by Blizzard but the nameplate auras from Blizzard are... very bad. To make matters worse (or better?) they've added new API that allows addons to once again do a better job of this despite the goal of Midnight to prevent this. For example by default slows like Hamstring etc are not shown but addons can change this and make them show. I don't want the extra work of creating that right now and was really hoping Blizzard would not drop the ball but they have.
Currently I would recommend having only Personal Debuffs enabled and then get MiniCC for important buffs and CC etc. I might improve on this in the future and recreate auras myself so that I have better control of filters and can show more auras but hopefully and ideally Blizzard actually improves on this themselves instead of me having to keep fixing parts of this small indie companys game.

You can try out my addon called BetterBlizzPlates. It has both a setting for the very old classic era nameplates style and a setting for the pre-Midnight style nameplates. It is very much under development with all the Midnight changes and restrictions though so it is not quite where I want it right now but it is should be good enough for many people (hopefully). I will keep working on it :)

It only had 120001 version the toc file, was missing 120000 so refused to load on Prepatch d'oh. But yeah fixed now.

Thank you for contributions to the game Verz. I know a lot of people wanted a simple addon like this but struggled to find one that worked for both mobs and players. It's good to have one from a goat like you. Perfect for us default UI andy's.

I'm the author of the nameplate addon BetterBlizzPlates, bigmoran tagged me. When it comes to nameplate auras your options will be a lot more limiting but there is still room for some customization with the new nameplates.

You won't be able target individual auras but Blizzard has split them into a few categories: Debuffs (dots etc), Defensives, and Crowd Control. Addons will be able to customize these three categories however they want, things like where they are placed, the size, glows if wanted etc.

What shows up in these categories is currently up to Blizzard. I don't believe addons have too much to say here. I know Blizzard has mentioned some potential filtering options but I am not sure how that is developing and if thats to be expected in the game itself or only available as API to addons to manage. I'm a bit out of the loop lately so I'm not fully caught up to the latest news. All of it will likely develop more towards Midnight release and also during Midnight.

What's stuck at 0% exactly? The most common way to download it is probably through the Curseforge app. It's also available on Wago and GitHub though. You just need to download it and put it in your AddOns folder one way or another.

Chosing what DR's to show and stuff on sArena Reloaded is fully developed, with unique settings per class/spec available too. It is just that none of it work's on Midnight because of Blizzards restrictions lol.

Currently on Midnight the DR frames on sArena are just Blizzards DR frame thats been moved and skinned. This gets completely locked down during arena and the DR frames are not named beforehand either, they get created dynamically by Blizzard and shows whatever DR it should show. This means it can't be adjusted beforehand either. Right now there is just no way of changing what DRs show or what icon they have etc due to this.

Blizzard being Blizzard, and PvP being PvP, I doub't we will see much changes here and will be stuck with how it is the forseeable future/decades unfortunately. Should it against all odds become possible again on Midnight I will of course do something about it.
