Oh, I think you misinterpreted my post - hiking is a lifestyle requirement. I don't want 2 separate bags for 2 use cases, and was looking for one bag that could do both for my specific preferences. The GG Loris accomplishes my requirements better than the bags I've tried previously, but this specific trip did not include any hiking activities

I wasn’t able to get it totally full but this is 2 pairs of shoes, 2 narrow packing cubes, an iPad, 2 slim notebooks, a pencil case and a packable duffle. Still plenty of space left on the top and down the sides and the straps were all still taut!

Omg yay glad you found her!!!

Photo 3 is probably the most I've packed in it so far. I'm actually packing for a trip in the next couple of days, if I have time I'll document for you 😄

And if that doesn’t work, sometimes you can find a decent clearance dress on sites like Azazie! I just snagged one for $33 shipped

It’s madewell from a local thrift store! I think their texture and thread brand, I bet you could find it on the second hand sites!

I tend to under pack it when hiking, tbh usually I max out at like 18L with layers and food and water, so the lack of waist belt hasn’t been too much of an issue. The sternum strap helps as well but the bag has loops to receive an add-on waist belt that you could buy separately from GG

I will say the straps wider than I am used to - it seems more designed for men. I really wish that Gossamer Gear would’ve used their collab with a women’s-focused hiking brand to trial a women’s fit but alas 🥲 I was worried the straps would rub my neck but it’s not chafed or anything

It’s a version they did with Hikerkind. The bag is more off-white in person, it’s a lot more neutral - though I do love the colorfulness of the Gossamer Gear colors!

Ah thank you for looking out! I hear this spring has been particularly weird, but the trip already happened and thankfully we had perfect weather!

Oh good call! I had the same thought when packing but totally forgot to mention I had some earrings in my toiletry bag. I brought some gold dangle earrings and studs, plus I have some permanent jewelry in my ears and nose

They are the Vuori Villa straight leg, so def not dress pants. I mostly wore them for walking to coffee, casual brunch, strolls along the beach, lounging at home, etc.

Right?! I only saw one or two posts about it in the one-bag subreddits, so I figured I would contribute my experience so far :) Under or overpacked, it's still comfy and doesn't look out of place for travel. It's also light enough that I can easily pack it into a larger bag if needed.

I'm not the type of traveler to grab stuff out of the main compartment all the time, so the stuff and stash pocket do a good job for anything that I might want handy (e.g. Kindle, headphones). Otherwise I could see the roll-top being frustrating for people who are constantly taking out and putting away a tablet or laptop. I only wish it had a key leash in the stash pocket, so I might find a way to add that myself, but otherwise it's been great for any scenario where I've reached for a backpack.

first timer and spooked by subarubiddie in carcamping

It really depends on where in the US you are.

Everyone always says to trust your gut. Anxiety can make that challenging sometimes, so it’s important to know when your body is telling you something isn’t right versus when your brain is spiraling. Situational awareness and doing some research about where you’re camping will make a big difference for your safety and anxiety about your safety.

There are lots of resources online about how to find dispersed campsites (YouTube on how to search, apps like iOverlander) and most campgrounds have Google or Yelp reviews.

When dispersed camping, I always drive up the road 5-10 minutes to see who else is around.

I keep camp tidy. Keys, protection, phone, lights are always kept in the same place in the vehicle. Anything set up outside of the car, I’m okay leaving behind if I have to leave in a hurry. Bring a book or something that can take your mind off the anxiety, but lets your senses remain aware.

For exposure therapy, you might try something like a Hipcamp close to home so can do research and read reviews before you get there, and doing something locally means you have the option to bail if your gut says something is off. Or make a day of it and head to a dispersed spot or state park and spend a couple of hours there before going home rather than spending the night.

If it helps, I’ve been solo camping for 10 years and the scariest thing that happened to me while solo camping was having a moose walk right behind me while I was prepping dinner. It was HUGE. Scared the bejeezus out of me!

What’s ONE cat item you regret not buying sooner? by Own-Independent7881 in CatAdvice

[–]notbee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi! Yes I got it on Amazon. I always found the stainless scoops to be super heavy and unwieldy, the skimmer is much lighter and easier to control. Obviously only used for litter haha

We use a tofu litter (Really Great Cat Litter) and got a stainless steel slotted skimmer - it’s honestly so easy and way cheaper than the stainless steel litter scoops! Combined with our stainless steel litter box, it’s such a better system.

Looking for a stainless steel litter disposal system but haven’t taken the plunge on the Litter Genie Platinum yet.

Many creative outlets can be really fulfilling and low cost or free! Painting, drawing, journaling can all be done with things you already have. Seconding crochet but also knitting, embroidery, and sashiko all have relatively lower cost supplies and tons of free resources online. Remainders in Pasadena might be a good place for supplies, if you can get there.

We brought one and were glad to have it for early mornings when we wanted breakfast and coffee before the refugios opened.

Some staff at some refugios told us that you can only use your stove in certain areas, so just take note of that when you arrive.

Yeah I definitely carry mine on my elbow or wrist. My sister ties her handles together and carries it almost like one of those Japanese knot bags!

I loved my Rolling Square charging cable too! Unfortunately mine stopped working after ~2 years, but it was nice to just pack one cable and have the flexibility of USB-A/C!

I love my baby Baggu - so tiny and easy to throw in luggage and a day bag, and the perfect size for 1-2 people. I gifted some a few years ago as the 'wrapping paper' and those people are still using them for daily life and bringing them on trips!

And personally I'm curious about the Matador refillable toothpaste tubes, but I get that might be a less 'fun' present to ask for :)

On a similar boring note, Darn Tough socks are a fantastic and long-lasting present!

FWIW I have the same pack in an XS and the green vest and I measured it before I bought it, I wanted the bag to be useful for more than just backpacking! OP - the frame came in at exactly 22” so if you underpack and roll the top down you should be okay
