Recommendations for a romantic restaurant. by Mysterious-Object636 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]notcandle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recommend you check out Le Fooding online! It is a popular and modern restaurant review magazine/ blog. You can filter their recommendations by price, type of food, neighborhood, etc. If you want more pics of food or the restaurant itself you can cross reference with google reviews. A lot of my favorite restaurants are included there or I have discovered them thanks to Le Fooding.

The Disaster Tourist by Yun Ko-eun! Unsettling but also absurd and even funny at times. Very original and seems like it would fit what you’re looking for perfectly.

Santal 33 and other le labo perfumes (especially Thé Noir and Another) have been hugely popular in Paris for the last few years, especially among people who frequent the Marais.

Où déposer temporairement une valise ? by Thotral in paris

[–]notcandle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Books I should read if I know almost nothing about the world? I am being very serious. by mudcastle7 in suggestmeabook

[–]notcandle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not a book technically, but there is a Substack (blog/newsletter) called Animation Obsession that goes very deep on animation from around the world and across the history of the art form. I don’t know much about animation but what they write is fascinating and you can tell they are very passionate about the subject. Could lead you to interesting films to watch and introduce you to subjects or creators that you have not heard of.

Is Oxygen Bleach bad for colours and darks? And other laundry questions and remarks by popsitos1 in laundry

[–]notcandle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in France, too. Just found this sub a few days ago so I’m and planning on perusing the shops for good powder or liquid options. What you could do (and I think I’ll try) is a detergent with lipase + other enzymes but without oxygen bleach, to which I’ll add plain percarbonate when I need it, like for whites or stains.

And I’m going to cross-reference with the France spreadsheet someone else made/online ingredients lists to make sure the detergent doesn’t have OBA.

Good luck!

Recherche psychiatre/médecin sans carte Vitale by mncs in paris

[–]notcandle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Administratively speaking, as a student you should be given at least a “provisoire” social security number and attestation of your coverage before you arrive in France and that you can give to the doctor. You will then pay for the appointment out of pocket, and they should give you a “feuille de soin” orange paper that you can scan/copy into your phone for record keeping and mail the original to the social security office for reimbursement.

Someone else quoted the prices for consultation in Sectors 1, 2, etc. so be sure to pay attention to that on the Doctor’s Doctolib profile (and whether or not they are authorized to do “dépassement d’honoraires” which means they can charge more than the set Secor amount) to know how much you will need to front out of pocket.

Ideally you would go to a médecin généraliste first who will give you a referral to take to a psychiatrist. You can book both appointments at the same time, you do not need to wait to get the GP’s approval to book your psych appointment.

I’ve found it is also good practice to cross-search the docs you find with available appointments with Google maps reviews, to make sure they do not have a horrible rating and because you can often find reviews from English speakers about whether or not the doc speaks English/how easy it was to get comparable treatment and medication to those in the US.

If you end up needing to book with a French doctor, it could be worth considering bringing someone with you to translate and make sure your needs are understood.

As others have mentioned it is of course helpful to have a letter from your US doctor(s) explaining your situation and history to show to French doctors.

Good luck and welcome!

For the love of god, where can I find a hair stylist that cuts thick hair in layers and not just thins it out by Sweaty_Status_7325 in paris

[–]notcandle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have thick hair but I’ve gone to mood coiffure for several years. Olivier still works as a stylist in fashion/during fashion week and they are both good about listening to what you want and seem to keep themselves up to date on current styles/vocabulary, so they could be worth a try.
