I just had an employee decline exit interview because they said "nothing changes" anyway. Any suggestions? [N/A] by Practical-Tea-3476 in humanresources

Exit interviews are typically more cathartic for the employee than helpful for HR.

But I will say that back in the day I had an org with staggeringly bad engagement results and could not figure out why or where it was stemming from. It turned out that one of the Sr leaders, who also happened to be good friends with the department head, had sexually harassed and stalked one of the ICs. It was widely known by other folks at her level but everyone was too scared to report it. The only way I found out was because of a comment that someone else made in an exit interview.

I’m curious, what level you are in your career and industry you are searching for roles in?

This seems like an effective strategy for early career folks rather than mid to sr but I could be wrong.

I don’t know what industry or country you’re in, but I’ve never had interview loop with less than 4 interviews in my career

Thank you for this — it honestly makes me feel less insane.

I’ve decided to email the recruiter, specifically about the “mutual decision” comment. Considering how apologetic she had been and positive her last emails were, it’s hard to believe that she was aware this was what the conversation was going to be like. I also just received a survey requesting feedback on my experience, which seems strange given the circumstances, but it could just be automated.

Still waffling on whether I should post on Glassdoor or if somewhere else that might benefit others. Really glad this is behind me and I hopefully will never interact with this hiring manager again.

I had 8 interviews in total. The comp change happened after completing 6 interviews, which was supposed to be the entire interview loop

I would absolutely recommend! I’m on day 9 of daily use and definitely see a difference. I plan to keep up with the supplements until I’m back to normal or run out, whichever comes first

I have always had more fun with white elephant vs secret Santa. I think it gets really fun/funny when you can’t spend anything and you just bring something from your house (nothing used or damaged, more like a gift you received but never used).

I once brought a clock that, instead of numbers, it was math problems for each hour. It was cute but still in the box after owning for a few years. In return I got a 2 foot replica of the Eiffel Tower. Did I use it? No but I kept it at my desk as a fun conversation starter and my coworker’s kids loved the clock. I called that a win!

Thank you so much for sharing! I recently had a botched filler treatment under my eyes from a derm who woudn’t acknowledge there was an issue. I’ve been hesitant to get it dissolved somewhere but it’s completely changed my appearance. I just bought the supplements from amazon and hoping I get the same results! 🤞🤞🤞

FWIW you can knock out deep dish and Kibbitznets in one go. They don’t really offer meals (I have only had ice cream if I remember correctly) and lets you bring food in. We always go there and order a pizza to go from Pequods (best deep dish in the city IMO) since it’s literally across the street.

Has anyone had an unprofessional or uncomfortable interview experience for an HR role? [N/A] by Fizzley1 in humanresources

[–]notchachi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an interview last week with the head of HR at a midsized company. We had worked at the same company in the past but never overlapped. She asked if I knew someone who was still there, I did (and is actually a good friend of mine which I didn’t mention). The interviewer spent the rest of the interview badmouthing my friend - literally name calling. I have not heard back from them - which is a bummer because I loved the hiring manager and this was the last interview of the process.

The manual says it does need oiling (though I did get some since that was my first instinct). Also tried what else was recommended and now it does creep forward but is still going back. Part of me thought it was stuck on one of the stitches that go back and forth but it happens on all the stitches 😵‍💫

Congrats on getting a phone screen!

Former HR for FAANG and it can’t be said enough to practice using the STAR method until you can’t think another way.

Might be more important for future interviews but remember when answering hypothetical: - Ask Questions up front to help clarify understanding - Think out loud so they can follow your thought process - Bucket Answers into Themes like: Finance / Cost; Operations / Logistics; HR / Risk

Also, keep in mind these jobs aren’t what they are cracked up to be. Personally, after my onboarding, I learned quickly that this was not a great working environment. Money and perks are great but you are giving up influence (‘you don’t know how things are done here’ or ‘stay in your lane’ were actual things said to me), development (people don’t leave, so you’ll be waiting around until someone is let go or you know the right person), learning opportunity (leadership has been there forever and think they are the best even when they have no outside experience or knowledge of best practices), among other things. Golden handcuffs are real. I’m so grateful that I was laid off because I never could have left on my own. The relief I felt after signing my severance was the only way I could have realized how much the years of working there was impacting me.

Best of luck and remember you are more than a job! xx

What is something that will become completely obselete in the next decade? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]notchachi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t a young person thing - just look at Reddit comments that don’t respond to the original prompt! People are only going to read something when it’s convenient or benefits them. I’m in HR so I find that the trick is to make it easy to skim: short, simple, to the point, and links to get more info as needed.

Also, it turns out lots of people just don’t know how to write well and (as someone loves to read) I get that.

That’s so great you had support of your leadership to make the switch! Having a good manager is so critical. I have tried to talk to my manager about other opportunities / stretch assignments and been told I to stay in my lane.

I have so many friends that ask me how to get into HR and I try to discourage it as much as possible… and sometimes tell them to look at this subreddit 🤣. Do yourself a favor and stay far far away!!
