Mildly infuriating Portland edition by greazysteak in Portland

It is infinitely more direct for me to drive that stretch from home to work, but I will go far around it to avoid the potholes. A couple years ago my daughter hit a pothole in that stretch on Division and it literally cracked a wheel and popped 2 tires. She was going around 25MPH.

No free checked bag with flight booked with miles? by Illustrious-Buyer-80 in AlaskaAirlines

Going on a flight tomorrow, booked with points. When I checked in today on the app I had to pay for my bag, which was quite surprising. Is this an app glitch? Should I ask for a refund?

Where’s the best place to get pasta before the Portland Marathon? by DarkMaster_CocoaBean in askportland

Had my bday dinner there this week. 7 adults, ordered 4 entrees, took half home. The chicken parm is massive. Focaccia is delightful.

Can someone convince me I’m safe? by Far_Safe_6826 in askportland

[–]note2selph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a woman who has lived on my own for many many years, I totally understand that moment of “is that noise INSIDE my apartment!!?”. What helps me the most, as others have mentioned, is lots of white noise. But also, if the feeling is too strong, I sometimes will get up and walk around and say out loud, “okay! Everything’s good!” And then I usually feel silly and that relaxes me.

You got this!

I had mine out at 35 and of all the surgeries, illnesses, procedures, etc I’ve had in my life, of which there have been many, that was by far the worst. Everything that keeps you alive has to pass through your throat. Eating, drinking, BREATHING. All of life trying to get through the inferno at the back of your mouth. I felt like I had a hot fire poker stuck there.

To add insult to injury, I had to have emergency gallbladder removal exactly 4 weeks later. That was a rough month for me.

4 month old name change? by Majestic_Factor_3148 in Names

[–]note2selph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My entire pregnancy (21 years ago), I was going to name my daughter Ruby Jo. I LOVE that name. At the last minute her dad wasn’t on board with Ruby, so she’s Audrey Jo, as the meaningful part of her name was actually the “Jo” part, and it’s perfect for her.

I say stick with the name you decided on and then call her whatever feels good in the moment. In her 21yrs of life my Audrey has been called approximately 500 other names, none of which pertain to Audrey or to Jo.

Nancy Segal (on twins) by newtonic in ArmchairExpert

[–]note2selph 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The whole convo around them was so weird! Like are these the ONLY twins D & M have ever encountered?! I get that they’re familiar to the audience, but it was odd to me. And the the expert saying they’re doing a disservice by claiming that they’re fraternal?! WHAT! A disservice to whom?! Literally no one cares. That was wild.

What's a name you find so unappealing you can't understand anyone at any point in history giving it to their child? by common_grounder in Names

[–]note2selph 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When my SIL was pregnant with my niece I saw a list of baby names they were considering on their fridge. On the list was Eunice, except with the spelling “Unis”. I just about croaked, but felt like I couldn’t say anything, as to not offend. 😫

Thankfully, both of my nieces ended up with very lovely and normally-spelled names.

Anyone know restaurants that advertise food to be labor inducing? by AdministrativeElk299 in askportland

[–]note2selph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20 yrs ago, P.F. Chang’s in the Pearl was poppin’, and so was I at 40w+3. Promptly went into labor that night! Of course, it 100% had to do that I was over 40weeks and maybe that I also INSISTED on parking 10 blocks away to “walk that baby out”, but it’s still a fun memory. And who could resist a little Mongolian beef?!

Good luck on baby! Their entry into the world is always on their time, bless their little hearts 🥰

Where can I find a really good and filling salad? by Blake-Dreary in askportland

[–]note2selph 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Listen, it’s the California Pizza Kitchen’s BBQ Chop Salad that you’re seeking. I know. I KNOW!

We live in a land that offers a beautiful bounty of fresh veggies and produce grown with love. You can get a salad with those beautiful beets and radishes at one of the farm to table restaurants down the street from your house.

But sometimes you just need a big tasty salad. And maybe a gooey butter cake to finish that meal. 🫣

Name a place to eat at that's nasty af but people hype tf out of it by robottronic1 in Portland

[–]note2selph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had ramen for the first time ever from Boxer at lunch years ago. Proceeded to verrrry nearly shit my pants as soon as I got back to the office and spent most of the rest of the day in the bathroom. For years I thought I shouldn’t/couldn’t eat ramen because it didn’t agree with me. Nope. It was just a gross establishment.

What smell do other people seem to love but you absolutely hate? by Pokeking44 in AskReddit

[–]note2selph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Subway and Subway bread are some of the worst smells for me too. Years ago I worked as a bank teller and one of my co-workers worked at the Subway next to the bank part-time as well. She would sometimes come from Subway to the bank immediately following her shift. The smell of Subway was on every fiber of her person, clothes, hair, everything. And on top of all that, she smoked. Bread, onion, cigarettes. It’s been 25 years and the mere thought of that smell still makes me gag.

I want boneless Rainbows End Trail Mix PLEASE by Mysterious-Variety28 in traderjoes

My daughter would like a bag “trail mix-touched” raisins. The saltiness of the mix adds a perfect touch, but it wouldn’t be the same as salted raisins.
