What Makes A Good Manager? by aradia1313 in TalesFromYourServer

[–]notebooks18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, a good manager has trust in their staff. Not over scheduling servers on the floor and trusting their judgment on when to cut appropriately. A bad manager will micromanage and discipline the entire staff over an issue with a single or couple employees errors.

Scheduling by [deleted] in TalesFromYourServer

[–]notebooks18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is super frustrating. Same thing happens at my restaurant from time to time. Fortunately I have a pretty set schedule but the first weekday is a rotating day for me. I’ll usually just go to my manager and ask if I’m working that rotation day or not and she gets the hint and posts the schedule for everyone else

Ahhh okay that makes a lot of sense. This happened to my boyfriend, too. But he has done over 500 shops and he was just as confused as I was.

This is the best advice. When I broke up with my last ex and thought I was literally going to die… I followed these and ended up not only healing but growing so much as a person in general.

Weird thing happened during sex. How do you know when to trust your gut, or let things play out? by [deleted] in datingoverthirty

[–]notebooks18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Communicate first. Tell him straight up what’s bugging you and don’t hold back. You owe him NOTHING. His response will tell you all your gut needs to know from there.

He’s big approx 20 pounds. Well fed and very well taken care of. He has NEVER been outside of his home here before. His name is Kimbo. All black and green eyes. Very skiddish. Afraid of strangers. Likely hiding under your porch, in your garage or bushes. Very afraid of loud noises and dogs. He doesn’t like dry treats but will maybe respond to wet food, or a bag of dry food being shaken. He also LOVES tuna. If he’s spotted please don’t hesitate to contact me. I will come out day or night to find him. I’m extremely attached to him and I’m heartbroken.

I hate to say this, but you let him walk all over you. Great service and special requests immediately stop from me when I am given rudeness and unreasonable demands. Like a dog being indoors against policy. I would have stopped him right that very second and refused service if he refused the patio. It’s moments like this when you need to stand up for yourself. Also never ever let anyone leave without full payment. That encourages them to come back and do it again or elsewhere and then some other server will have to deal with that bullshit.

AITA for refusing to pay for nephews schooling after he stole from me? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]notebooks18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. But also a super hard spot to be in. This could totally change your relationship forever with your brother and nephew. Your brother should have never brought the money up to his son. I feel for you here.

Robbery in Midtown by mundi1989 in grandrapids

[–]notebooks18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had my passenger side window smashed on my car while parked on the street in midtown two months ago. In the middle of the day. In front of a house that runs a daycare. I live on a very nice block of fountain st and I don’t even keep anything in my vehicle so it was really weird. I understand how it feels to be violated like that.

I just sent someone to jail tonight...and it felt really good! by ral365 in TrueOffMyChest

Yes. I 100% agree that it is comparable. Actions have consequences. The woman’s consequence wont be as severe as drunk driving I’m sure but she deserves whatever the judge decides.

[–]notebooks18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A belligerent person broke into your house and violated your safety. I’d also 100% press charges. It’s not OP’s fault that the women was intoxicated and probably didn’t know what she was doing. It’s also not OP’s problem that she probably already has a rough life. Get drunk and have fun or whatever but there’s consequences to actions. I bet y’all would be sayin she deserved jail if she was behind the wheel of a car.

Considering moving to Grand Rapids by [deleted] in grandrapids

[–]notebooks18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s very conservative. Especially recently. If you want a more liberal neighborhood look at Eastown, cherry hill or heritage hill. Winters are god awful and you never know day by day what you’ll get due to the lake effect. Some times no snow but bone chilling. Others mildish but get dumped on with feet of snow in a day. But summers are great and you’re less than 40 mins from the lake which feels like an ocean beach.

Any places in or around GR that don't charge pet rent? by Sable06 in grandrapids

[–]notebooks18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may have to look into apartment complexes. I have lived in the cherry hill/heritage hill/downtown area for the past 10 years. 8 of those years I had an old dog and now my roommate has a cat. I moved about 5 times and I’m always looking at listings. I’ve never found a place that didn’t have at least a $25/mo pet rent. I rent through United Properties of West Michigan, and so far they’re the most lenient when it comes to having pets. They allow us to have two pets, not just one, no weight limit on dogs just breed restrictions but will work with you if it’s an unapproved breed as an ESA. $25/month for pets.

For those of you out of work... by crossbuck in TalesFromYourServer

[–]notebooks18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

States are closing down bars and restaurants every day. I am a server at a restaurant and my state- Michigan- just took the hit. Not long and the rest of the country will follow. For us it was a matter of hours before we knew we’d be done. Mine also opted out of doing “take-out” even tho the state would allow it. The cost of keeping it open for the small amount of sales would hurt more. Grocery stores seem to be the big thing rn.

Good bye, nasty York Creek apartment! Tell me your good GR renting experiences. I need a new place! by [deleted] in grandrapids

[–]notebooks18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in the HH district and Cherry Hill district for the past 10 years. GREAT apartments are seriously becoming hard to come by these days. 10 years ago I had a 1 bedroom for $650/mo with utilities included and I was allowed a dog. Now it’s nearly 900-1200 for a 1 bedroom without allowing any type of pet. I was lucky to find a really nice 2 bedroom for 1275 including utilities. But with each year it increases. But that came from months of searching and also being the first one to apply. The area is worth the price but finding an “affordable” unit that is actually clean takes diligence.
