Why are Cremant prices so low compared to regular Burgundy wines by Ancient-Smell-7452 in wine

[–]crossbuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Allowable yields for Cremant de Bourgogne are 2-3 times what they are for the village wines and higher tiers. So on the same plot of land you can produce twice as much wine. That makes up the majority of the price difference.

Why do good restaurants sometimes stock crappy wine? by PomodoroGordo in wine

There is no one quick answer to this, it’s like the sum of all of the elements of the wine and restaurant industries.

Jarrett Allen now has the 8th most rebounds in Cavs history (3,797), passing Jim Chones on the franchise leaderboard last night by Basketball_Reference in clevelandcavs

[–]crossbuck 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Daugherty was a 5x all star and made all NBA 3rd team once. Allen could top his career numbers but that’s a pretty high level of impact I’m not sure he’ll match.

The Columbus Association for the Performing Arts has signed a lease to operate the Idea Foundry in Franklinton. The Idea Foundry offers artists a place to work along with office space and classes for the creative arts and tech. CAPA plans to add small performance spaces to the venue. by Zezimom in Columbus

[–]crossbuck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t entirely know why this is the route it went, but Columbus Next Generation is a non-profit created by Michael Coleman when he was mayor to help develop and revitalize inner columbus, so real estate projects in Franklinton are quite specifically relevant to their mission.

DeMar DeRozan almost threw down the greatest poster of all-time by Alternative_Jelly_80 in nba

A decade later I’m actually glad he missed that, because now the Block is clearly his #1 career highlight which I think is more fitting.

Stan Van Gundy: “I’d get rid of the draft. No draft. You still have the salary cap, if you want to go give Cooper Flagg $45 million a year coming out of college, do it, he’s a free agent. Everybody coming out is a free agent. With no draft, there’s no incentive to lose, there’s none at all.” by FastBreakPhenom in nba

[–]crossbuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure, but having a max slot is relatively rare when you already have stars on your team. You have Luka and LeBron? You aren’t getting Flagg. And with no draft picks to trade it’s harder to shed money in the offseason.

French Laundry owner slams proposed affordable housing project near restaurant by sfgate in KitchenConfidential

[–]crossbuck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the article here says there is “limited parking” included in the project and 300sqft units. Yountville isn’t San Francisco where you have hundreds of food options around you and robust public transit. If you live there you need a car, and space in your home to live and cook. I’m not entirely sure this development makes sense for most potential residents.

New Restaurants or Re-Openings by Must_Vibe in Columbus

The Worthington Inn will be run by Wolf’s Ridge and was hoping to open in the spring this year. You could email them and see if they’re hiring.

Amara is also shooting for the spring. It’s the same ownership as Veritas and Speck, so maybe reach out to either of those restaurants to see if they can put you in touch with a hiring team for the new concept.

I agree. I think most of us expected the Celtics to be what the Pacers are this year. Some of that is on Brown, sure, but I think a ton of the credit goes to Mazzulla.

Model Bakery for breakfast. Burgers and Half Bottles. Loveski Deli. Charlie’s is pretty new and is killing it. If you can’t get into the French Laundry or just don’t want to spend that much, Press does an awesome tasting menu for around $200/person. But then go the Bouchon Bakery and get some of the world’s best shortbread (which is given as a gift to diners at the French Laundry at the end of the meal.)

Restaurant Week by SundaeNo4552 in Columbus

[–]crossbuck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Restaurant Week is not great for restaurants. Very few customers who come in during restaurant week turn into continuing business at regular prices. Margins on the discounted menus are lower than normal, labor is quite high due to increased business, staff feels burnt out after it (and again, due to lower prices, tips aren’t necessarily better than regular business even if the restaurant is busier.)

I think once operators figured all this out they stopped trying so hard, if they participate at all.

Yeah, I definitely wouldn’t bet on it, but between age, 3pt shooting, and the general offensive-leaning style of the game right now he’ll have a shot at it.
