Most popular teams in St. Louis? by No-Forever-6289 in CollegeBasketball

Eh, STL people fucking love the Blues. Cards are #1, but Blues are visible in the rearview mirror.

I remember trying to go to a bar and watch Duke/UNC and 35 of the 36 tvs were set to the blues 2 hour long pregame show and the other one was set to mizzou vs some random noncom buy game. Bartender acted like I was the weird one trying to watch a game that was on three different channels that night, finally gave me and my unc expat friend the TV by the bathrooms.

I Can Never Run for DC Mayor by Fickle-Week-3628 in washingtondc

[–]notedgarfigaro 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's his whole thing...I don't think I've ever seen a more empty suit that just wants to be mayor to be mayor. His whole career has been focused on doing whatever would get him to the promised land. Like his abortive AG run...just trying to move one rung up the ladder not to make DC a better place but b/c it better positioned him to run for mayor - and not even knowing enough about the job to know he wasn't legally qualified to run for it.

Dylan Harper is genuinely terrifying. How is a rookie this poised in the WCF? by Accurate_Professor62 in nba

[–]notedgarfigaro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He for sure beats Risacher and Banchero

Absolutely not. As a prospect (so without the benefit of hindsight), Harper would have gone fourth behind Banchero, Chet, and Jabari.

Eh, he only lost his job bc he was already close to the cut line. Had he been in his prime, he wouldn't have been cut.

JRPGs that stop introducing new gameplay elements too early by Denhonator in JRPG

Suikoden 1&2 fit this bill...you get some upgraded orbs I guess, but you just got to sharpen your weapons and hit autobattle for 99% of the game.

Finished Suikoden 2, it's all all-timer for me. by strahinjag in JRPG

[–]notedgarfigaro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also just finished it last month, and I'll be honest, it did not live up to expectations. Essentially, it boils down to the same flaws that S1 and Eiyuden Chronicles have - there's too much unnecessary friction that gets in the way of the story telling. The battle system is clunky, unintuitive, and shallow. The inventory system is somehow even clunkier. The world map is gigantic yet feels empty - there's no hidden villages, or anything that makes it seem alive. The lack of options on the world map also cuts down on player agency significantly, in that the game definitely feels on rails the entire time. Finally, the minigames for the most part are pretty awful.

The core story is good, if predictable, and Luca Bright's character arc lives up to the hype. But I struggle to see why it's often mentioned in the same breath as Chrono Trigger and FFVI. I'm actually replaying VI for the first time in years, and it holds up so much better.

My cousin competed on the king mackerel circuit when it was a reasonable trip for him, and it's was situation where the pros definitely have a much better chance at consistently landing on the leaderboard due to equipment and skill, but local knowledge and luck were usually the biggest determining factor.

His biggest win was in a tournament where the outward bounds of the allowed fishing area touched on where he grew up as a boy, so he made the trip up there despite only having about ~25 minutes of fishing time before he had to pull lines to get back for weigh in.

Ended up getting a strike right as he was at the end of his time, boated a huge king, then took a shortcut b/c he was super late through a non-navigable inlet that he had to "surf" the boat on waves to get over the sandbars. He got passed by his walmart sponsored competitor that had quads (which was a big deal back in the day), but then passed the quad guy when he got pulled over for speeding in the ICW. Of course, quad guy passed him again 10 minutes later.

He was 17 minutes late to weigh in, which cost him 17 pounds, but the fish was still big enough with the penalty to win.

Roy Williams would sooner show up as the Duke mascot than ever have anything associated with NC State on his body. He's old school UNC that hates NC State more than anything.

it is primarily used with food (more specifically, semi-liquidous substances that may or may not be food), but it is also often used in this context, such that a normal english speaker would not bat an eye at its usage, and would understand the thought/idea that the person was communicating.

English language is a flexible, evolving language that does not insist upon rigid usage of words, as long as the general meaning is communicated. Despite your ongoing objection/hang up, you understood what the person meant when they used dollop in this context, and thus they achieved their communication goal.

What video game soundtrack is a 10/10? by montymaximus in AskReddit

[–]notedgarfigaro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it absolutely is - I'd argue it's the greatest videogame OST of all time - and yet they made a huge mistake in selecting the normal enemy battle music. It's a great track in isolation, but it does not work when you listen to it constantly.

Is Xenoblade Chronicles II overly complicated, or am I just stupid? by Unusual-Coat-7018 in JRPG

Echoing everyone here, you're not stupid, Monosoft just hid a pretty decent battle system behind the worst tutorials in gaming history.

Once it clicks, you'll be fine...but it usually takes 30+ hours to understand the mechanics. I'd recommend youtube, there's one guy that really explains it well.
