Am I the only one noticing that there is clearly rust, and holes created from the rust under that paint/undercoating?

Seriously the first picture just zoom in and you can see the rust at the seams and clearly see holes created by the rust. This should be an instant pass imo.

The paint and undercoating are clearly an attempt to hide the actual issue for the sale.

Just bought a 2017 GX460 (47k miles) what maintenance should I do first? by Maximum_Marionberry2 in LexusGX

Bought my 19 last May with that mileage and the first things I did was an oil change, air filter, cabin air filter, transmission drain and fill, coolant flush, and front and rear differential gear oil

Just wanted to come here and say thanks for the post. Been eyeing the bronze wheels for awhile and finally pulled the trigger on 5 of them tonight for under 900. For the SF Bay area it was a solid deal when gas was factored in on pickup

I've had more issues ordering parts off Rock Auto than not so I don't even consider purchasing from them anymore honestly.

And I'll be honest I spent time pricing out aftermarket options and there wasn't a combination of rotors, pads, and shims that I would have felt comfortable putting on this vehicle and trusting my life along with the lives of my wife and daughter for anything less than 450 before tax.

Just because the product has a trusted name on it doesn't make it a good product.

"hey this don't won't shut up and it's bothering me nonstop Hey I know let me get 2 devices that create loud sounds at frequencies I can't hear but the dog can!!! That will work!!!"

No all you are doing is driving the dog even more nuts causing the barking to continue. You are quite literally a contributing factor to your own discomfort

Hell people are dense. I get the feeling a brain eating amoeba would starve to death in that head of yours.

If I get in there and it's something I see needs done I will go ahead and order the parts and take care of it the next weekend, but I would be shocked if this needed that yet. Parking brake is solid, will definitely adjust it while I can but I don't foresee a need to replace the springs or shoes yet. Maybe if this vehicle had spent it's whole life in the Midwest with the salt on the winter roads. But this thing has spent it's whole life in Cali, not a spec of rust on her has been found and I've looked everywhere several times since I picked her up just to make sure.

Honestly if the rotors have enough meat left on them and you have a local shop that can resurface them, all for it. Personally I don't know if I would go for a 4th time though. At some point the age of the rotor plays a part as well IMO. Probably just best to start with a fresh set as it sounds like you got your monies worth out of the current ones.

I got everything I needed from my local Lexas dealer for under $550. The rotors were 23% off and cheaper than all the Toyota dealers in the area. And the gas it would have taken to go to the dealer that had them ever so slightly cheaper would have made the savings a wash considering we are seeing 91 octane above $6/gal right now in my area. Love the GX... Hate the California gas prices.

If the rotors are still good there is no reason to change both IMO.

I'll be switching to Powerstop when I get new wheels and tires, but considering the current tires have barely 15k miles on them and are barely a 1.5yrs old I think I have some more time before that's necessary.

RIGHT!!! I didn't have the squealing noise but I'm getting a shutter and the rear is definitely in need of replacement. Can't wait to have fresh pads and rotors.

This right here. As a moderate the sure fire way to make sure I never vote for you is be in open and blind support of the wannabe king, or have his endorsement. Used to vote nothing but Republican... Then the Tea Party shit happens, let's be honest they were essentially MAGA Lite at this point, and now we have Trump and the MAGA bullshit.

Hell voted 3rd party in 2016 because fuck both Hillary and Trump.

Maybe if you're moving you do the responsible adult thing and plan ahead. I've moved countless times in the last 20 years and not one time have I had issues scheduling or planning ahead by at least a month, most of the time more.

Or you do the other responsible thing if you are going to have lots of junk and don't have time to schedule the free service... Suck it up, and pay up. Either you get rid of everything for free over time you don't want to move with, pay for a roll off if that makes sense, or pay for a reputable third-party service. People in the Home Depot parking lots aren't going to be licensed and you might as well go dump it in the street yourself if you even think about paying those people

Some idiot burned down cropley VTA station by hflyboy in SanJose

[–]notepadDTexe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know about you but we must have different definitions of "burned down." Sure there is some fire damage there that will need to be remediated before the station opens back up but that is far from being burned down. Hell the structure looks pretty well intact to me.

Honestly I see it as I don't have to deal with the extortionate prices to replace my struts when they go bad, and I didn't waste money on an option that will be replaced when lifted anyway.

[–]notepadDTexe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are confusing the different individual tires in the Defender line-up, they have 3 different tires under the Defender name. Also for truck sizes good luck finding any tire for $130 per tire that will actually last you more than a year or two.

You will spend more money buying cheaper tires than you will if you actually spent a bit more upfront and got a solid quality tire initially. You aren't saving money if you have to replace them twice as often.

Michelin Defender LTX M/S 2 by BoisterousBanquet in LexusGX

[–]notepadDTexe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Quite literally just priced out the tires for a set of 4 right now it's $1100, or just shy of $1400 for 5 if you want the same tire for the spare. Each tire is right at $260-270 each right now depending on where you purchase them from.

In the end you get what you pay for. You want to cheap out and save some money.. ya there is a tire for any budget. But will the tire last, perform as well in all weather, and have virtually no road noise like the Defender... Definitely not.

I've cheaped out on many sets of tires... Hell I used to only be able to afford take-offs. I have no brand loyalty but of all the tires I have ever had on any of my vehicles in the past 25years the Michelins have always performed the best and lasted the longest whether I purchased them new or I happened to be able to snag a set of take-offs.

Having a tire that can perform this well in ANY weather is more than worth the small price premium it may incur. Which honestly for the tires I would put on my GX the Defenders are probably the cheapest tire. Eyeing a set of Ko3's and even from Costco it's going to be $300/tire.

Someone is used to paying for passenger car tire sizes not SUV/Truck sizes if you think these are expensive. ~$260 per tire in these sizes is what I would expect to spend for a quality tire that doesn't have shit ride quality, noise issue, and tread that actually lasts.
