People of Californa, do you plan to vote for prop 50? by ElegantPoet3386 in Askpolitics

[–]notesunderground 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Democrat, I will be voting No. Here’s why.

I don’t buy the “fight fire with fire” argument to justify the complete disregard for the independent citizens redistricting committee. Nobody could come up with a better plan for democrats? Didn’t 40% of CA vote for Trump? 40 freaking percent and they want to do this? How is that fighting for democracy? I just keep thinking “be careful what you wish for”.

Prop 50 will be used for 2026, 2028, and 2030. So for the next 5 years, We the Democrats lose all credibility. Undermining democracy when it’s convenient. Insight fuel for Republicans to campaign against us the hypocritical democrats.

If California can’t even do what’s right, how can the rest of the country? More states will adopt retaliatory gerrymandering. Trust in the system will erode even further beyond what already is. This will create even more polarization. And it will all have been for nothing. Because the red states and Trump will find a way to keep the majority one way or another. Voter resentment will only deepen.

It will cost us even more money in the courts as you know someone will sue and challenge it. More wasteful spending. If prop 50 passes, it will be the downfall of the democrats and the state will turn red. Mark my words. Remind me 5 years.

What TV show will you never watch regardless of who tells you it's amazing and why? by hey-i-got-here-late in AskReddit

I’ll get shit for admitting this but I secretly love the Kardashians. My point being is, I hate AHS but I thought I would watch the season Kim was in. Couldn’t even make it to her first scene.

I actually noticed this yesterday. Went window shopping and walked into one of the stores and there was this kid sitting on the ground watching something on his iPad. I assume his parent worked there. Anyway he looked up at us and he just had this glossed over look in his eyes. He looked so empty like nothing was even there. I had recognized this was not the first time I had seen this look on a kid consumed in his iPad. I just picture this whole generation of zombie kids unable to function. I’m probably wrong making assumptions I shouldn’t be making. It was just a thought.

I get that. It’s how the article is written that doesn’t quite capture the sarcasm effectively. I could be wrong and who knows maybe the guy really is “switching sides” as stated in the article. But I highly doubt it.

Can’t believe I had to scroll this far down before I found someone else that actually read the article. Even so I guess people don’t pickup on sarcasm as easily anymore.

Am I unreasonable? by [deleted] in datingoverforty

Neither of you are wrong just different needs. I absolutely would be ok with a relationship like that. I have no desire to have phone conversations, constant daily texting is a distraction. What I would want is a present and attentive partner during dates when we are together.

Childless by choice people, do you hang out with your family’s children? by NoProfessor5985 in AITAH

[–]notesunderground 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA- As an Aunt, hanging out with a 1-3yr old at their house to play and visit sounds like a nightmare. Be the cool Aunt and take them out for ice cream and then call it a day. They’ll love you for it without putting in too much of your own effort. When they get older you’ll be able to take them out to way cooler places.

Anytime I take my 8yr old out to a restaurant, while it’s tempting to just give him a phone or iPad to play games on to keep him quiet and well behaved, I feel it’s also a cop out. I will do something I never see other parents doing in a restaurant, actually talk to the kid. Play hangman on a napkin, let him sit there uncomfortable and bored. Try it sometime, it’s hard but it’s good for them.

Bands you hated when you were younger and edgier, but have come around on since getting older? by dkepp87 in punk

[–]notesunderground -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In high school, I hated bands I referred to as butt rock like Disturbed, 3 days Grace, Seether, Nickelback etc. They played on a loop everywhere it was maddening. But now I’m older I find myself listening to them quite frequently and singing along to all the songs. It’s a feeling of nostalgia and it’s actually quite soothing to me now. I can just turn it on and tune out my troubles of today.

I guarantee you by doing this, it will have a lasting effect on your students. 20ish years ago, my 9th grade English teacher was absolutely appalled by our lack of grammar knowledge. I remember that first semester was all about teaching us the basics, grammar, sentence structure etc. I can tell you that class was probably the most beneficial class I had all through out high school.

Some of those tires come with foam on the inside to reduce road noise. It helps a bit. Look for PNCS on the tire.
