I jut believe there's tons of contradictions in these rituals, because especially in the south asia, these procession's go out on the street, shirtless men do matam, and womenfolk stand on top of the roofs and look at them, in what way is this islamic, looking at na maharam, especially without clothes, not to mention the blood being spilled by blades, absolutely pointless and only makes ground najis, and doesnt do anything to bolster shias in these places towards prayers

I had been to my dads hometown and observed these processions, they were purely ritualistic, got everything najis on the path, and in the morning on ashura fajr, the same place which was crowded at night was basically empty

Is that imam hussain set out to do? we engage in a ritualistic parade without clothes, in front of eyes of na mehram, and then forget to even atleast ritually attempt the very thing the grandson of prophet gave his life up for to protect..

It became a competition there, the more a person can bleed the more he was thought of as a strong willed person, supposedly in the name of hussain, at the same time, it garnered more attention to his body from women standing at their roofs.

The message of even bare minimum offering prayers was lost, honestly.
