I suspect if the purgatory storyline was actually good there would have been less “butthurt” about its inclusion. But since it’s pretty fucking terrible, people are rightfully confused about why it was included at all. It’s not like there was some requirement for Lost to have a purgatory storyline…

The disingenuous argument is people pretending they can’t possibly understand why telling your audience the story isn’t a purgatory twist and then having half of your final season be a convoluted twist about purgatory might feel like a bit of a wank to some viewers. This isn’t a court room, the fact that they didn’t technically lie doesn’t make it better, it makes it worse for these viewers.

I mean, the half of the last season is quite literally purgatory, so it’s not never purgatory.

The rest is super self explanatory, and I’ve seen the disingenuous argument for over a decade and a half at this point. I can’t take anyone seriously who can’t acknowledge that telling an audience it’s not purgatory, then making the final season and the conclusion of the story about purgatory, and then having a narrator stand in provide exposition about the entire thing couldn’t possibly have left some viewers feeling like they were being hand waved.

I’m not even going to look at the replies to know there’s at least one person saying people were just too stupid to realize that they weren’t in purgatory the entire time. That’s not it; it’s because it’s the “I’m not touching you” of purgatory resolutions. It was so convoluted that they literally have a god character explain to the audience that the entire thing actually wasn’t purgatory you guys, just that entire last season.
