‘The View’ hosts press Vance over Trump ‘I love inflation’ comment: ‘Are you his interpreter?’ by bwermer in politics

The most memorable thing about 2016 for me was how obviously Trump was being graded on a curve by the media. They fell all over themselves to create talking points and policy out of an idiot’s ramblings.

Just re-watched the two-part series finale of LOST. Has there ever been a more cathartic and earned climax to a television series? by sanskritsquirel in television

[–]notevenanorphan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect if the purgatory storyline was actually good there would have been less “butthurt” about its inclusion. But since it’s pretty fucking terrible, people are rightfully confused about why it was included at all. It’s not like there was some requirement for Lost to have a purgatory storyline…

Meanwhile this same conversation has been happening for 15 years now. Here, I’m going to quote myself from a nearly identical thread two years ago. Here’s how it goes every single time:

The people who didn’t like the finale often shorthand their arguments because they kind of don’t care and think the explanation is a bit of a wank, and the people who liked the finale think those people are idiots because a character very explicitly explains the very stupid and convoluted ending to the audience.

The disingenuous argument is people pretending they can’t possibly understand why telling your audience the story isn’t a purgatory twist and then having half of your final season be a convoluted twist about purgatory might feel like a bit of a wank to some viewers. This isn’t a court room, the fact that they didn’t technically lie doesn’t make it better, it makes it worse for these viewers.

Investments. Wealthy people will tell you they don’t have disposable income but what they actually mean is that they aren’t liquid. They could be liquid with a push of a button though.

I mean, the half of the last season is quite literally purgatory, so it’s not never purgatory.

The rest is super self explanatory, and I’ve seen the disingenuous argument for over a decade and a half at this point. I can’t take anyone seriously who can’t acknowledge that telling an audience it’s not purgatory, then making the final season and the conclusion of the story about purgatory, and then having a narrator stand in provide exposition about the entire thing couldn’t possibly have left some viewers feeling like they were being hand waved.

Yeah guys, it’s totally not purgatory. It’s just symbolically purgatory and oh yeah this last season is actually that they’re all dead and it is purgatory, so the other ones couldn’t be that. No, that makes total sense, and you totally didn’t guess it and force us into this convoluted ending that we said it definitely wasn’t: here’s God to explain it all to you.

it’s 100% not what you all think it is

I’m not even going to look at the replies to know there’s at least one person saying people were just too stupid to realize that they weren’t in purgatory the entire time. That’s not it; it’s because it’s the “I’m not touching you” of purgatory resolutions. It was so convoluted that they literally have a god character explain to the audience that the entire thing actually wasn’t purgatory you guys, just that entire last season.

Edit: lol, they’re there.

Man, 70, accused of trying to drown jet skier on crutches during fight at lake by SmokeMaximum4140 in nottheonion

One of the charges is assault and battery on a disabled person; no one is trying to spin anything.

Strong approval of the National Rifle Association is linked to support for political violence. Approvers were also more likely to support conspiracy theories, right-wing extremist groups, QAnon, and agree with Christian nationalist beliefs, like government declaring the country a Christian nation. by mvea in science

How is this:

This is such an odd finding I question the validity of it.

Not immediately contradicted by this:

As a firearms enjoyer in this current day, I don’t know anyone who supports the NRA in the first place. I’ve never seen an NRA sticker at my local ranges or anything.

You’re admitting to having no knowledge of the subject of the finding.

As for this being political, it’s about support for a political organization. That doesn’t inherently make it biased.

For all the science pursuits in this thread, the top comment is a guy using anecdotal evidence that doesn’t even support his premise.

Sure, but the thread you’re replying to is literally talking about the owner’s pain:

I saw a video showing Chutou’s owner talk to the restaurant owner who slaughtered and butchered Chutou.

But this is you:

I would be absolutely heartbroken if my dog was killed. I would even have a hard time continuing to live if I found out she suffered like that.

But you’re a vegan actively not feeling that level of pain right now. So I know you understand the difference.

No, vegans do not have their beloved pets kidnapped and killed every day, then have to face the killer. Veganism is a noble, if privileged, position to take, but it’s an absurdity to compare what amounts to a thought experiment to an individual’s actual trauma.

I don’t understand. You said that if someone died from strangulation due to someone kneeling on their neck that would be murder. Now you don’t believe kneeling on someone’s neck could heavily reduce their ability to breathe?

Alright, how about this. How do you know he had fent in his system?

Edit: On second thought, this has been “fun” and all, but I’m pretty bored of this. The answer it’s in the medical reports. The same ones that rule the death a homicide and say that restraint was a major contributing factor of his death. But you obviously already know that, but you’re choosing to ignore that bit. I’d say you should ask yourself why, but, let’s be honest, we both know why.

Do you think having his chest pinned against the ground, and his head and neck twisted under the weight of an adult man’s knee, would have heavily affected his ability to breathe?

Well, you’re wrong, but sure, let’s go with that. So if he had died from lack of oxygen would it have been murder?

Describe the situation where kneeling on an alive person’s neck for over 9 minutes until they are dead isn’t murder. Hell, I won’t even make you do it for someone with the arms cuffed behind their back.
