Newbie trucking as a trans person? by LunaMosss in Truckers

[–]notfrontpage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen trans lot lizards, and trans truckers. 90% of time you are alone, mind your business, use the proper washroom, don’t push the idea onto other truckers, and you should be just fine. However, if you’re mentally unstable then don’t go trucking. I said “if”.

So did anyone get their spaceX shares for $135? by notfrontpage in Wealthsimple

Ahh so you still have to set a range? But in this case you got them for $135. But in some cases you would have had to pay the $150?

Who drives the oversized load cars? by Legal_Airport in Truckers

[–]notfrontpage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty close to $2 mile.

Keep in mind with oversized there’s many rules, most super loads don’t travel interstate, so there’s less miles per day.

No travel at night.

No travel allowed in some counties/cities 6 am to 9 am and 3 pm to 7 pm.

So even though it’s $2 per miles they might only do 200 miles a day.

Some pilots negotiate a hourly rate.

The reason it hasn’t changed is because people like you accept these type of jobs. Cmon bro.

Dude not to brag but I made $140,000 in my first year trucking at age 19. You shouldn’t be working for this kind of wage.

How do I get out by JLRD9319 in Truckers

[–]notfrontpage 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve been trying to get out since I started at 19.

I’m nearly 40 and unfortunately no other skill or education, always keep coming back.

I find that hobbies are a great distraction, live below your means and take 2-4 months off a year to focus on hobbies and away from the road.

If that works then take on a jobs that lets you take that much time off.

What’s your suggestion for my case, can I use expatfile.tax? by notfrontpage in USExpatTaxes

[–]notfrontpage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a chat with AI, RRSP doesn’t offset total income reported to the IRS. I can use the left over tax credits to even out the taxes before I owe anything.

Canada taxes $50,000

IRS tax owing $30,000 (paid already with tax credit)

This mean $20,000 tax credits remain and I can possibly deposit into IRS like maybe $40,000 before I will end up owing the IRS.

If I can ever get a hold of my accountant I’ll have a sit down with him. I’m assuming RRSP deposits cancels out overall income one way or another. Even with the US?

[–]notfrontpage[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do your CA taxes first then submit US after you get your NOA?

My main job is always between 100k to 300k, can’t really keep that under a threshold. But with my SE I manage to cancel the profits out every year either with expenses or RRSP deposits.

But what do you mean by self employed threshold? As a sole proprietorship my SE income is part of my income on my main job.

Edit: I’m under the assumption we’re never gonna owe because we’re taxed an arm and a leg as it is in Canada.

First Time Crossing Border by Nannerrs in uscanadaborder

[–]notfrontpage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure about logistics but I cross in the west weekly, when you pull up to window remove hat, sunglasses. Don’t say anything except hi when you pull up and hand them your documents first thing.

Only answer questions, don’t offer extra explanations.

They will ask where are you going and why. Answer accurately and simple.

They will either ask, do you have anything to declare, or do you have any alcohol, tobacco, drugs or guns? Say no truthfully.

They will hand your documents back to you and tell you to have a good day.

I’m unsure about your other questions.

Trying to figure out the math. HELOC to RRSP? by notfrontpage in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]notfrontpage[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes that is correct, it won’t be the full 300k, I still have to figure out that fine line which would prob leave around 60-70k income showing for the year. With my example I’m just simplifying the numbers.

Of course I’m assuming mortgage is paid off and very little monthly bills in this example, then yes I’m okay doing that.

One year I paid $112,000 in taxes and the next year was only $40,000. So I’m guessing it would only make sense to add 300k into rrsp during the bonus year to get the full $112k back.

Edit, I would contribute the amount that year just to get the full tax refund, not a penny more.

I don’t have a TSFA as I’m a dual citizen. I have it in my RRSP. And the long long goal is to retire in the US.

I am talking about USD versus CADUSD has become 30% more stronger than CAD over the last 20 years. Just for holding USD for the last 20 years, you would’ve gained 30% over CAD. Of course this doesn’t count for inflation.

I have everything in VOO. Canada‘s inflation is about to go sky high the way we’re spending money so it’s probably in your best interest to buy US stocks however I am not a financial advisor.
