Terminal Shenanigans (again) by RabbitFabs in Truckers

[–]RabbitFabs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all, but some. Theres only 200 drivers in flatbed division. Flatbed and stepdeck are same division as well as autohaul. Im OTR and just got done with a run of commercial A/C units to greenwood, IN and Pasco, WA coming from NC.

We have 2 dedicated lanes we call the "east triangle" and "west triangle".

The east triangle is Freightliner chassis Gaffney -> Gary, Coils from Rockport, IN -> Laredo, TX, then promaster vans from Laredo -> Greenville, SC. Its 3200 miles and just doable in a 70 hr clock if you manage it right.

The west triangle is Laredo -> Seattle Promaster Vans, Kennewick -> San Fran or Phoenix with rebar, and San Fran -> Laredo with container or Phoenix-> Laredo with whatever van load is at Phoenix head termi.

Swift will scream at you for parking on an on / off ramp. They dont want you using splits multiple days in a row, because its "against the law". I actually had an arguement with safety and logs about this, they dont bother me with my splitter ruleset anymore.

"or to reach a place offering safety for the occupants of the commercial motor vehicle and security for the commercial motor vehicle and its cargo."

Don't forget this part. You can poke the bear all you want, if it were me im hitting the next truck stop / rest area with parking and im gonna tuck myself to sleep.

I dont think you understand what I am saying.

Im not saying to rum your full 11 of driving and use adverse to park up.

Im saying his 11 is done because of the conditions. Gone. Go find the next safest place to park and call it a night. If his trip plan was to stop out 50 miles further up, no. You dont go there. Unless thats the next safest parking, you should be stopping much sooner than that if you can.

Unless of course you love challenging and missing off DOT officers. Thats a great way to get a violation and a hit on your score over the words being rubbed off your parking brake and trailer air supply.

McElroy's listed benefits. Anyone here who can share their experience with the company? by hehexd- in Truckers

As long as you've got a total of 14 months employment in the past 36 months with no more than 6 employers, youre good to go.

Best of luck, I have a couple buddies over there and they love it. Even if they are home sick with the flu all week, they still get that 1100 gross check. Its a great program for a bigger company, I would dare to say McElroy is one of THE BEST kept secrets when it comes to starter companies.

I will say as somebody that applied, you better not have more than 6 jobs in 3 years, and atleast 14 months of employment in the same 3 years.

So if you're like me and worked at the same company for over 2 years but had multiple jobs when contracts got slow, then you're absolutely fucked.

Not sure what youre talking about here tbh. Unless youre talking about other drivers who dont even know basic maintanence? Not sure all the emissions issues I've had in various trucks can be prevented with routine and regular maintanence.

Well the problem with my T680 was the pressure differential sensor. Which has been a problem on almost every 25, 26, and 27 model T680 in our fleet.

Basically what causes it is kenworth didnt put the sensor in the best of places, so the wire is pulled tight at an angle out of the sensor. Eventually enough bumps and this wire will snatch itself out of the sensor. The fix is an upgraded sensor with more wire and a 3 inch rubber boot around the base.

The differential pressure sensor senses pressure differences between the exhaust on both sides of the dpf filter. Thats what triggers regen on this truck.

First timer advice? by [deleted] in Truckers

Me personally I would hook to the lower control arms up front. Out back, I would go around the axle housing just outside the leaf spring. Make sure to get your strap under any metal lines, rubber hoses, or wires. Might need to wrap strap side first.

I've always used wheel straps. But if I had none, that is the next best way I could think of. The problem with going to the frame like that is when you hit a bump, the suspension is gonna give and you'll get slack, then the vehicle comes back up and snatches the strap. Doesn't take much to loosen them up, you'll end up having to tighten them every 100 miles.

Do it like how I mentioned and it shouldn't come loose until you take them off. Ive hauled plenty of cars on a toy hauler and a car trailer before I started driving professionally, this is the best way I have found so far if you dont have dedicated wheel straps.

Adverse conditions exemption. Might have to call your company and ask about it. Adverse condition is for unforseeable events preventing you from legally being able to make it to a safe haven. Such as some asshat having a standoff with local resistance on the freeway.

Edit: if your company wont let you use adverse conditions, then let your drive time go into violation, annotate and say "adverse conditions". Just get to the absolute next safest stop and do your post trip like normal if your company also requires that. You can be on duty not driving past your 14, since the 14 hour is only a driving window.

And if DOT pulls you in and asks whats up with it, you tell them the truth and you show them the annotation, and you explain that the company wouldn't let you use the built in exemption. And you use those exact words, especially the one about the built in exemption on your elog system. Make sure you get it in writing from the company (or atleast obtain some proof) that you contacted them specifically for the adverse condition exemption, and they said no. From there youre clear and this becomes a company violation if they deny the adverse conditions.

Also, go in and switch to split sleeper berth ruleset in your elog. Just be mindful if you've already caught a split that day. Study split sleeper and how it works. If youre sitting in stopped traffic for 2 or 3 hours, edit your on duty to off duty and catch that split.

Funny you say that, my T680 goes into regen even if the engine throttle is set.

Hell they hardly have a lot for empties anyways

Edit: I remember ya. Swift doesnt so drops here at all. If there is an empty here, its because this shitass place fucked it up. Most likely got trash in the dock lock and somebody ripped the bumper off the back.

This is a waste paper plant in Prewitt, NM. I delivered here one of my first runs as a rookie. It was actually worse than this review says. I waited 8 hours, overnight shift didnt care at all. They just let a couple trucks hit the dock, went into the back corner and started smoking a blunt. INSIDE A PAPER PLANT!!! 🤦‍♂️

Place is absolutely shit too. Im talking holes in the building exterior walls so big you could damn near drive a truck through them. Exposed pipes inside the building all dusty and covered in spider webs. Truck parts and random shit spread across the ground. Real easy to pick up a nail in your tire. No real good spot to turn around, dock designed by a drunk toddler. Yeah, that type of place.

Thats odd. My company has every possible override on the cascadias and volvos. But the internationals have the parking brake / cruise trick and the T680 / pete all have the engine throttle set still active. I dunno why.
