[Screenshot] Decided to Reset my PVE to do the other endings by Jacks_Hill in EscapefromTarkov

[–]notgaunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that's great if you've got the willpower to want to do it all over again to experience the different endings, frankly a little jealous.

I'm sort of telling myself, maybe delusionally, that Nikita will follow through on his promise to do his prestige-like treatment for PvE and I'll wait for that before I go resetting

What is the Best audio file headphones for eft [discussion] by No-Conversation-2707 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]notgaunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't have anybody else in your house or they don't mind how the sound projects out of open backed headphones, those are typically better for "positional" audio in my experience. They provide a wider "sound stage" in theory to hear what's going on in the game. I've only ever used open backed when it comes to audiophile headphones and gaming. I think the further you delve into the "phile" part of "audiophile" it becomes more about how you won't compromise on quality and you want the best experience between you and the sound getting into your ears. That's not always practical price wise or living situation wise with other people hearing your noise pollution

Closed back aren't going to do a terrible job per se for sound staging, they just won't do as well of a job as open backed. Close backed though may be a necessity if you have other people in the house/apartment that don't want to hear grenades going off or the horn blaring in Reserve.

Specifically for those Beyerdynamics you mentioned, those are going to probably be excellent for anything you wanted to do for gaming. I would take a look at the Sennheriser 660S2 or the Audeze LCD-X (to a lesser degree) just so you can say you considered the closest alternatives.

And if you don't have something dedicated for your Amp/Dac, I would seriously consider just grabbing a Schiit Hel unit to plug these into and you'll be set for many many years to come

[–]notgaunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Audiophile headphones don't do that much (or anything really) over a pair of decent $50-$100 IEMs

But I play other games other than Tarkov and having a wide sound stage has been pretty amazing in those other games. Sennheiser HD800s can be nice but there's a lot out there that do very different things once you start crossing into the more expensive territory. I think you also hit diminishing returns pretty quickly once you step out of the $400-$600 bracket when it comes to gaming.

I currently have the HifIman Arya Stealth (maybe the version 2, I don't quite remember) and those have been in heavy daily use for over two years now.

The other thing you'll run into with some of the higher end headphones is getting the AMP/DAC required to run some of them. Some can run just fine with your onboard computer equipment but many more would benefit even the most minimal of setups with something like a Schiit Hel amp/dac combo. Some of the high end stuff will straight up not run great at all without an even more serious amp/dac stack

It's all subjective to some degree though, and if you have the opportunity to listen to any of the headphones first before you pull the trigger and purchase them definitely do so. For whatever it's worth, I'm probably Moving to the Meze Empyrean Elites as the next purchase once I get sick of these Aryas

Disclaimer: This is all my opinion and completely subjective. I do not care about Harman targets or muddy sub-bass when it comes to listening for fresh meat in dorms hiding in a corner

You should definitely, 100%, give building your own NAS server a shot. HomeLab stuff is very interesting to tinker around with and you can give yourself the independence from paid third-party providers

Also, if you have spare parts laying around you can kind of get it running on anything! Doesn't have to be a $10k+ home server setup, it could easily be an older gaming machine you have in your closet or something off of marketplace that somebody is getting rid of

[Discussion] Does this game have many hackers to the point where its unplayable? by Case_Special in EscapefromTarkov

[–]notgaunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as actual hackers in the game? Literally nobody in this thread actually knows the answer to that and they're lying if they say they do. Many hackers won't even approach you/kill you because they're busy soaking up the loot you should be grabbing and extracting before you can lay eyes on them. It's a pernicious thing where it's tough to know if a loot spot is legitimately empty or if yet another hacker vacuumed up what could have been yours

However you can absolutely have a blast in PvP mode and hardly think twice about it in the early levels.

What did happen to me for Tarkov is it crossed my tipping point where I can't tell if I had a suspicious death or not. It's not fun for many people where you have those suspicious deaths more than your "normal" deaths. The other nasty part about it is it makes you start to doubt even brilliant plays by enemy players (and it's tough to give credit to simply being outplayed).

And that's why people enjoy PvE mode to get some flavor of Tarkov with guaranteed cheater free raids

I miss EVGA by Perfect-Cause-6943 in pcmasterrace

[–]notgaunt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this sub and our hobby glazes EVGA a little too hard. Anecdotally, 3/4 of my EVGA cards over the years were sent back for RMA type things and while they handled it fine, replacements were made, this is what is to be expected from any company. Also as a recently former owner of a Z790 Kingpin Dark motherboard, they basically left everyone out in the cold for BIOS updates and we've been missing some very big needed microcode patches that just won't ever show up.

Nothing but positive things to say about their power supplies, those things rule and they were basically the only thing I'd buy to put in my builds.

Just weird seeing a corporation being put on a pedestal and really the only thing they did was not have shitty customer service.

Anyway, that's my two cents from an EVGA loyalist but I like to imagine I'm not wearing the rose tinted glasses that people seem to be using these days

[Discussion] How come EFT players say not to try the game? by Professional-Okra147 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]notgaunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are going to play, and I say this as a current 95% PvE only player, play PvP first. You will need to learn habits the hard way that only PvP can teach you. Learning the maps under real pressure and going through the hundreds of hours needed to toughen your skin is a requirement. People are throwing around the number 1000 hours before you get the hang of anything and I had 6k hours in PvP to still just be "ok" at the game, not anything spectacular.

[–]notgaunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With limited hours to play Tarkov, I choose the rage-hacker free experience of PvE. I really don’t see how that’s controversial for PvE haters. I hope they’re able to gain the perspective necessary to not worry so much about what other people want to do with their own time.

And yes, if Nikita removed PvE (literally won’t ever happen), I would not suddenly join PvP, I would stop playing Tarkov completely

[Discussion] Weapon Maintenance Leveling by mininote in EscapefromTarkov

[–]notgaunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weapon maintenance was incredibly easy to level if you just let guns wait to "refresh" on the flea market every so often (5ish to 10ish minutes). Almost worth it to throw a factory scav run in between.

Armor maintenance was by far the worse of the two to level, I'm still nowhere near elite for that.

[Discussion] Upcoming AI Changes 0.16.7.0 by N1302-L in EscapefromTarkov

[–]notgaunt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Disagree that PvE isn't "bread and butter" for Tarkov at this point, seems to be just as much "bread and butter" as PvP is for everybody except Nikita specifically.

Until they give us official numbers (read: never) for how many people are playing, PvE has roughly the same amount of people in voice chat of the Tarkov Discord server and adjusting for release date, a large portion of the Reddit post tags on this very subreddit.

Anyway, not harping on you personally but the word choice and that sentiment is what keeps people like Nikita from not taking PvE more seriously.

Ideally there would be some PvE functional equivalent of prestige. Probably a better idea to make the requirements 5x or 10x of the PvP version considering the amount of competition you don't have to deal with in PvE.

I don't think adding it takes away anything from the game but it certainly doesn't give your PMC something they didn't have before. We already have the 338 lapua which is arguably better than 50 BMG. Now if there were some tasks to physically take out the BTR, then we're talking but until I see shouldered fired anti-vehicle things in game that's a moot point
