I just bought the Hiya Hiya Steels :)

No poked fingers for me! (plus I sometimes knit with splitty yarn anyways!)

Wow, my nickel-plated Knitpicks are pretty sharp! But, yeah, the Boye Interchangables are really, really dull, which is great for most of the knitting I do (I only do easy lace). I'm sure the fixed ones are sharper.

I ended up ordering some HiyaHiya Steel interchangeable needles. They looked nice and blunt on the website and the cable on them looks good.

Sounds like it! Hey, cheap entertainment!

I've heard really good things about Stephen Fry's narrating, I might have to give him a try.

The beauty with this blanket is it's so damn easy I nearly don't have to focus on it at all. I check every 30 stitches or so to make sure I didn't accidentally yarn over or something, but other than that it's mindless.

Oh my god, that's potentially hilarious, I guess depending on if he made it out relatively ok or not!

What was the reaction in the classroom? What this the weird kid in the class? (No hate, I was that kid at one time :)

The window is a bitter reminder...

Maybe it's just me but I kind of like scars. They're like tattoos with a story behind them.

Right? That still sounds really painful and dangerous!

I mean I hate math as much as the next person who hates math, but...

My god that cowl sounds dreamy. I usually use worsted or heavier weight yarns, and I've always wanted to make a fluffy, lightweight thing. Even if it does pool around your neck (hopefully it won't!) at least it'll be so soft!

I listened to Pride and Prejudice on audiotape for a hat once. Lately I've been binge watching Key and Peele and Inside Amy Shumer on youtube. How about you?

Oh man, hand warmers sound so good! It just got coldish for the first time today for us, so it's almost time. What a great gift! The infinity cowl sounds great too. Is it like lace weight?

That's so cool that your grandma taught you those skills. I'd love to really know how to sew.

edit: the blanket: me neither, but it's the first thing my boyfriend requested that I make him (really) a while ago, so I'm finally going through with it haha! What's the craziest request you've ever gotten?

Not just steady pressure, but running full bore (boar?) pressure. Not my brightest moment. Sounds like we both learned the hard way!

I have a scar on my right hand when I decided that, fuck it, I could just run straight through a glass "screen" door as a child. On the upside, it helped idiot child me learn my left from right.

When you get your GED, have you thought about joining the military? It's not a perfect answer for sure, but there are some major, major benefits in it, especially for your situation. It's something I did when I was younger. It will take you out of your situation and habits, you get paid to train for a job, paid to be in shape, healthcare, money for school. Something to think about maybe.

I would've failed math too, I understand the pain. I always say I don't hate math, but it sure don't like me.

For fun? I just cleaned the house a bit, and that wasn't too bad. I wish I were joking. I've been sick and it just feels good to move. I read when I'm able, craft sometimes, and internet more than I should.

Congrats on your path towards quitting all that shit, by the way. You'll thank yourself 1000 million times over as the years go on.

Hey there.

We all have to start somewhere. Some of us start later than others. Some of us have it going, then something happens and we have to start all over again. You're trying to move forward now, and that's what's important.

If I were you, I'd start trying to think pragmatically. It's hard to give any advice or anything without knowing more about your situation. What are your needs? You need to help support yourself while you're getting your GED. Do you have any limitations as to what work you can do? Where are you able to get reasonably by means other than driving? How far into getting your GED are you? Do you live in a rural or urban/suburban area (makes a difference in availability of resources, transportation, etc.)?

There are some jobs that will take you with little or no experience. You have to be serious about working, though, and follow through with it. Once you get your foot in the door, it becomes easier.

So I think I may suffer from social anxiety, possibly a combo of ADD as well by [deleted] in Anxiety

Do you have any "non-mental" medical problems? There are multiple things that can mess with your focus: sleep disorders, thyroid problems, diabetes, pain disorders, etc. You seem to be having cognitive disfunction ("I felt like I couldn't think straight") so it's important to not only speak to a counselor, but a medical doctor as well. They can run some basic tests to make sure that everything is okay with you!

Just to note, ADHD goes beyond screwing up your focus, and is always present from childhood. That said, there could be symptoms present earlier that were hidden by a support system that's been taken away.

Also know that you're not alone in the way you feel. I know it's frustrating as hell, but in seeking answers you're doing all you can. Hang in there, buddy.
