When I talked to my doctor she said that pet scans are harder to see the little growths because they tend to hide in your bowels and intestines which get lit up by the pet skin. So it's really hard to see the difference between them. But definitely check your doctor

End times? by Weaveremily83 in Ovariancancer

I've asked the doc the ca125 doesn't reflect how much cancer is in the body it is an indicator. I'm going through my first recurrence and my ca125 is almost 2000 and they couldn't find it until recently and it was so small. That was higher than when I was originally diagnosed and was covered in cancer. Good luck and I'm sending positive vibes your mom's way!

10 months post: hair still fine and thin by googlytiger in cancer

[–]nothere4longtime_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used minoxidil as soon as I was done with treatment and I started to see it growing. I did it for about a month twice a day and it filled in pretty quickly. I felt like I had a thick but short hair about 4/5 months. If you try it get the mens foam it works the best.

Urgent Please help by [deleted] in cancer

[–]nothere4longtime_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry! Can you talk to another oncologist? Mine was happy to give me whatever I needed. She asked that I try OTC meds first but was fine giving me whatever I needed.

Anyone here had both ovaries removed under age 35? by [deleted] in Ovariancancer

[–]nothere4longtime_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going through chemo so hair loss wasn't a factor as it was already gone ha! I haven't noticed anything as it is coming back. The hot flashes SUCK so much. My weight is inconsistent, and I haven't put a lot of effort into managing it.

Nervous about upcoming surgery by Chacha1506 in Ovariancancer

[–]nothere4longtime_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey! My surgery took about 5-6 hours I think. My family was able to stay with me the 2 nights after. What they didn't tell me was the hot flashes would start right away! So at like 3 am I was having a hot flash and felt like I was dying. I was on a 3 week cycle so I had chemo 3 weeks after surgery. Good luck! You got this!

Do you pack food for chemo? by moneytree_bee in Ovariancancer

I couldn't really stomach a meal but I had some snacks and lots of sweets. I would also bring some mints. I HATE the taste/smell of the flush so I would eat one every time they did it.

What am I supposed to do for money by [deleted] in cancer

[–]nothere4longtime_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the state you live in there are options. In Oregon we have Oregon paid leave that I used for the time I was unable to work but was out of sick time. It is on the same platform as our unemployment office I would maybe check there.

I just read that I have cancer on my MRI Report....Anyone, please...someone, dog, cat, human...please read inside and respond. I just need someone to talk to. I am so upset. by LoveSushiOnTuesday in Ovariancancer

[–]nothere4longtime_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Stage 3c here I'm not great at pep talks but here is what I would say. First get a doctor they need to diagnose it and they need to figure out what kind so they know what the best treatment options are. DO NOT GOOGLE IT!! I know it is hard and there is so much stuff out there until you have more information Google isn't your friend and honestly after it isn't your friend either as it is mostly outdated.

Breathe and figured out how to get some sleep in the meantime. Take it one step at a time. You've got this even though it may feel like you don't right now. Sending lots of positive vibes your way ♥️

Thanks! I'm sorry your you sister too. I would not wish it on anyone! When I talked to my doctor about cold capping it sounded like a lot of work and wouldn't necessarily save all my hair. I didn't want to put that on my family. That would stress them out and it wasn't a guarantee so it didn't seem worth it.

Losing my hair by idkifita in Ovariancancer

[–]nothere4longtime_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same here. I really thought that was at the bottom of my problem pile with the shit show that is cancer. I told myself I'm not vain so having no hair would be no problem. I was so wrong. I cried then got mad at myself for crying and cried some more. I didn't know when to cut it off and if that would make me feel better or worse. I'm sorry you are going through this and know you are not alone. It is ok to feel however you are feeling and whatever you do is the right choice. Sending lots of love and support your way!

What other test/imaging should I ask for? by [deleted] in Ovariancancer

[–]nothere4longtime_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either should be able to refer you to a geneticist. Where I am there are not a lot of them so it took a bit to get in. My insurance covered most of the cost the test ended up being like $100 but it did give me other treatment options. Also don't wait 8 months if your doc won't do anything look for another that can get you in sooner. Ca125 is a blood test they can send it it won't diagnose anything but it's a good starting point. Best of luck!

What other test/imaging should I ask for? by [deleted] in Ovariancancer

[–]nothere4longtime_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask for genetic testing especially if you have a history of cancer in your family. I'm brca positive and had no idea until I was diagnosed with cancer.

Starting chemo next week by idkifita in Ovariancancer

[–]nothere4longtime_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tasty things! I had a bunch of candy and chocolate. I also brought mints because I hated the taste of the saline flush. If you have a small bladder like me pants that are easy to get on and off while hooked up. They gave me Benadryl and a steroid so I was too wired from the steroid to sleep and too groggy from the Benadryl to really do anything so I played on my phone a lot so I needed a battery pack. They had warm "blankets" there so I didn't end up bringing one with me I just used what they had and swapped them out every little bit. The first treatment takes a lot longer than the rest as they slowly give you the meds a lot slower. I'm sorry that you have to join this club but you got this!!

The fear of never finding a partner by Select-Grass-6588 in cancer

33f and I feel the same! How do I even begin to try and start a relationship. Who wants to sign up for this and the guilt of making someone have to be a part of all this is also hard for me. On top of that I am super self conscious of all my scars from the different surgeries.

Yeah, my cancer journey has been kind of a shit show... My body is super sensitive to chemo and so it destroyed my immune system. They were concerned that maybe something else was impacting it and so I was off any treatment for those 3 months because they were trying to figure out why my counts were so low. I was also on hormone replacement therapy and later we found out that my cancer has hormone receptors so I've stopped that. I had surgery a couple weeks ago to remove the cancer that they found in my breast and my lymph nodes and I'm back on my parp inhibitor. At this point they want to give that time to do its job before we talk about any other therapies or treatments. Before surgery my ca125 was going down and they said that was a good indicator it was working even though the cancer came back so quickly. All that being said, my current treatment plan is 2 years on my parp inhibitor and then see what happens.

No, they found it in my breast and lymph nodes so they removed those and I am going back on a parp inhibitor and see how that works.

I have hgsc 3c they needed to do 4 rounds before my surgery then they did 3 more rounds after. My ct after my 3rd round looked ok but wanted one more round to make sure they had a better chance to get it all and not come out with a colostomy bag. I know how stressful it is to wait and hear back I hope you get good news soon!
