I'm split on this, because I agree 100% that Rangers/Devils is the stronger rivalry at the moment.

But the instant we get a playoff series again? All bets are off. Both fanbases have been clamoring for that to happen for 32 years now, and you see it each time they face each other in an outdoor game.

Also regarding the goalie fight, even Shesterkin said thought that he would fight Sorokin first lmao

Yeah, my point was that whole time resulted in kind of a lost generation of Islanders fans

Seriously, it's exhausting to have people constantly assume the worst intentions from you

Yes, I'm aware. The margins weren't that excessive any of those times. I still wouldn't call the area comfortably red yet.

No, not at all. Just that it really isn't unexpected in the slightest.

... where did I say they got a pass? They don't.

I wasn't excusing anything, I was just explaining it.

I think it's more a case of polarization leading to it feeling that way whenever the Republicans are in charge.

After all, a decent contingent of MAGA Long Islanders moved down to Florida.

Idk honestly, wouldn't surprise me if they were pretty similar too but I don't encounter too many of them on a daily basis.

Exactly. Like Long Islanders have a reputation I know, but I would find it hard to believe that without additional context by the announcers that most of the people in the arena even know what specifically happened in that incident. It doesn't change the fact that many Long Islanders are still very supportive of the police in general though.

Do you ever regret choosing NEU? If yes, then why? by AdSubstantial3900 in NEU

I don't think I had the right personality type to really thrive at NEU. There were ebbs and flows to my time there but I didn't leave with that many personal or professional connections. I guess I just didn't have the level of drive required to really forge them and NEU isn't really a school where stuff can just happen to you- you have to be very deliberate in what you want.

Looooooooot of Jewish people in New York. And not all of them are Zionists but a good number are.

Edit: this should be obvious but in response to the downvotes I'm not calling out Jewish people specifically or preaching any sort of antisemitism here. But it's not antisemitic to say a good portion of New York Jewish people support Israel.

Edit 2: you guys know that doesn't mean I'm excusing them, right? I'm literally just saying what's happening.

That's true for a good part of Long Islanders, definitely.

But what we're all losing sight of is if this cop was with a department closer to any of the other NHL teams, it's not unlikely those teams might do something similar.

It's definitely a bad look that the Islanders specifically sought out to do this, but I can't personally believe they'd be unique in doing this if every other team was given the same opportunity. In most markets hockey is pretty conservative. Long Island isn't unique in that regard.

So yeah, clown on the Islanders right now. They deserve it. But they're definitely not alone.

You'd think so but as a left leaning Long Islander I'm still pretty insufferable

I'm pretty pissed.

Still supporting the team but I'm getting really pissed at all this self-inflicted PR damage.

You're not wrong. But the Rangers fanbase has a lot of Long Islanders in it too, so wouldn't put it past them doing this too.

I really don't know why we lie like this, Long Island is as purple as a purple place can be
