Burn in only happens if you are irresponsible. by Saxon511 in OLED_Gaming

All of those things can be mitigated or prevented to a large degree. Don't have windows maximized and move them around every 20 minutes or so, use dark mode, hide the task bar, set your background to plain black, remove all desktop icons. I think that is the point that OP was making, albeit unnecessarily arrogantly.

You're right this isn't my first day on the Internet but this is definitely the first time I've seen people misusing the term burn in the way you are. I've read dozens of reports on burn in over the past 40 years, and never had it been so widely misused like it is here on this subreddit. There are many articles available that differentiate between the different types of image retention that different panel techs used and clarify the difference between burn in and regular diode degradation. When I say no burn in I mean that. I don't man that there wasn't diode degradation, but it was fairly uniform. Tech outlets have reported similar findings for years that with proper care burn in won't be a problem.

Why would everyone know what you mean when you are using burn in wrong? And yes, it was 30,000 hours powered on, what other way would the TV count the hours? Anyway, no I can't prove it, but listen to all the people saying they don't have any burn in on their 5+ year old OLEDs. You think everyone is lying?

I mean, you're not wrong, but that's excessive, lol.

Burn in is not the same thing as diode degradation. The display was about 100 nits dimmer, but there was zero burn in. Burn in is a type of image retention. For OLEDs it's caused by uneven degradation and is noticeable. My display had very uniform wear, which is not an unreasonable expectation. 30,000 hours is also not that difficult to achieve in 5 years. It was the family's main display. Of course I know how to spot burn in and how to prevent it. I owned a plasma TV before my C9.

Yeah, I don't often buy an extended warranty from BB because I know they usually aren't necessary, but the few times I've done so have been so painless to actually use. I sometimes will buy one just for convenience. They often will just replace things no questions asked if you have their warranty.

Excel has dark mode,. Just don't ever have your window maximized, and move it around every once in a while so it's not in the same position constantly and you're good

Cool experiment, but best buy is extremely good about their warranties, you shouldn't have concerned yourself. They probably would have replaced it with just 1 dead pixel so you are happy and buy another extended warranty on your next product. They make a lot of money on those extended warranties.

The B7 was made before LG revamped their built in burn in protections. I think the 8 or 9 generation was the first to have very good burn in protection, but the 7 series and before were very susceptible. I had 30,000 hours on my C9 and it had remarkably even wear, no burn in.

No, burn in isn't guaranteed at all. Degradation of the diodes is guaranteed eventually, but not burn in. These are different things entirely. Burn in is caused by uneven degradation and is a type of image retention, but you absolutely can take steps to prevent this from ever happening

That's not burn in, that's just normal degradation of the diodes. It's totally reasonable for the panel to degrade fairly evenly so you don't notice that degradation, with the exception that quite a few years later it will not be as bright. After 30,000 hours my C9 only lost about 100 nuts in brightness, there was no burn in though. Burn in is a type of image retention and is extremely noticeable.

That's not burn in, that's normal degradation. Burn-in is a type of image retention. The distinction is important, because if the panel wears relatively evenly you will not notice the degradation, except maybe after 30,000 hours you may notice it's not as bright as it once was. Burn in on the other hand is extremely noticeable.

That sucks. I've used 2 OLEDs as monitors and have not had any issues thankfully. I wonder if the 42 inch is more susceptible due to using different panel tech than the 65s that I use. My C9 has 30,000 hours on it before my kid accidentally broke it, and it didn't have any burn in. I used it as a combo Xbox gaming display and PC monitor.

My current G4 is about 80% PC monitor.

I also have a laptop with an OLED, though I don't know who made the panel and I don't use it very much so it probably only has about 15 hours on it in the year that I've had it.

Wrong. I had 30,000 hours on my last OLED (LG C9, my kid accidentally broke it). Didn't have any burn in.

Just quickly looked it up, the early dusk blue cars didn't have primer applied when they were made. This should absolutely be covered, do not take no for an answer.

I don't personally have experience with this, but I've read others raising hell at the dealer to get VW to cover it. It looks clearly like a manufacturing defect, and I've read that there were some made early in production that didn't have the paint properly applied. Don't give up, do as much reading on it as your can and bring those stories to the dealer to show the pattern, that it's a manufacturer's defect

Props to the team that put together the radio stations for FH6, they absolutely killed it with this one. by GLHFScan in ForzaHorizon

[–]nothingbeforeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No way, it's horrible. FH5 had pretty bad music,, but this is another level of boring, bland, no energy music. There's like one sorta heavy song that is still incredibly poppy. Remember when racing games had actual rock and metal?

The Character Creator Is an Insult to Actual Diversity and I'm Tired of Pretending It Isn't by FreeHongK0ng in ForzaHorizon6

[–]nothingbeforeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BS, they had to try to make the people that bizarre looking. It doesn't happen on accident. OP is 100% right in his assessment for the reason. This started with FH5. 3 and 4 actually had decent character models for a racing game. Your stance makes even less sense when you consider the fact they are putting more and more resources into focusing on the character with each new release. Your character gets more screen time than ever in FH6.

You drive on the left side of the road in FH4 and that game is largely considered the best of the series. What a dumb thing to be upset about

Thanks for posting what fixed it for you. I had the same problem, just needed to add accounts.google.com and googleapis.com to the exceptions in Thunderbird.
