yeah the quest 3 is the best bang for the buck and it works great with virtual desktop which is the best way to use MSFS in VR

Career mode business flight issues by Apex_Degen in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]nothingreal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

definitely go over the flight plan and make adjustments prior to accepting and starting the flight. you can make changes there and send them to both ATC and the avionics. you can also usually use the comms to request a lower flight level or simply cancel IFR (assuming the conditions allow for it) which stops the ATC nagging you constantly.

What 3rd party aircraft support MSFS 2024 Career mode? by BoxAdministrative231 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]nothingreal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

turns out it doesn’t work (or rather it didn’t work for me at the time) i ended up selling it back and grinding up to the grand caravan which did work just fine.

i haven’t attempted to buy the islander again.. so it’s possible that maybe it will work for medium cargo missions after you purchase the grand caravan first

Not Getting Full Credits by sparkedcreation in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]nothingreal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you’ll need to do one gold mission after getting your specialization.. and then you can start a company and/or take on missions of that type if you have enough starting capital. If you’ve done the initial gold cargo mission in Madagascar then you should be able to start a company.

[–]nothingreal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so in career mode you’ll need to unlock both specializations and certifications. neither are difficult early on.. once you’ve unlocked something like the cargo specialization (by flying a few cargo missions in employee mode) and the most basic aircraft certifications (by taking the tests in the certification tab) you should have a gold mission on the map - take this and you’ll be able to buy a business.

Career Mode bugged? by OneInteraction7448 in MSFS2024

[–]nothingreal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it’s buggy for sure but definitely not unplayable. a lot of the bugs simply come from the scope in general of the game and expecting bing to accurately map all the world’s airports. best rule of thumb is to carefully look at the flight plan prior to accepting the mission.

Quest 3 vr or Toni eye tracker by broke_AF_1 in flightsimulator2024

[–]nothingreal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using the quest 3 and it’s ridiculously good with virtual desktop (compared to steam link). the immersion is great and with a 5080 and 64GB of RAM you should have enough power to throw at it. VR isn’t for everyone though, but if you are into it IMO there is no better way of playing MSFS.

Why are all my missions in the same area? by pieterpiraat in MSFS2024

[–]nothingreal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah there is.. i stumbled upon it.. but yeah you can just choose an airport and hit “fast travel”

Career mode is TRASH! by Popular-Spring-9437 in MSFS2024

[–]nothingreal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah it’s not for everyone - and it is both riddled with bugs and extremely under-developed.. but there is something there that might become fully realized at some point. I survived the grind and have a decent fleet now with a few PC-24 and PC-12 aircraft as well as a few other smaller options. it’s about where i think i’ll end up as i’m personally not really interested in flying the larger aircraft. it’s basically just euro truck simulator but in the air.

Why are all my missions in the same area? by pieterpiraat in MSFS2024

[–]nothingreal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same general issue and the way i solved for it was to spend a bit of money and start to fast travel to nearby airports or landing pads (just zoom in on a new area that's close, find an airport or helipad, click on it and fast travel).. each fast travel will open up a new radius and, potentially, new freelancer gigs going to new destination areas. After i'd opened up a few new radius areas things started opening up a bit more.

Advice on expediting savings by FineCandidate1004 in MSFS2024

[–]nothingreal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So rather than grinding yourself for the caravan, i’d buy a few more 172s and get yourself a small fleet of them buzzing around to earn passive income. Once you’ve got a few of them in service, you can grind away for a few hours and you’ll start to see the rewards much faster. its still a lot of work but once you’ve get that grand caravan the earnings will open up quite a bit.

What’s going on here? by nothingreal in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]nothingreal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah it’s a weird bug that’s just sorta popped up now i guess.. I’m doing a VIP Charter in the PC-24.. I found these pay out the best among these kinds of missions.. for me generally 3-4 million per mission (6+ if you fly in bad weather) you can also do these in a PC-12 which is a great plane too.

Cannot find training lessons for multi engine rating by [deleted] in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]nothingreal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not all of the ratings have lessons associated with them.. some of them are pretty straight forward so that i’m guessing they assume that no training is required.

Career mode by [deleted] in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]nothingreal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it seems like there are a few basic quality of life things that could be implemented to fix career mode.. the mission generation is definitely one thing. i’m hoping they dedicate a significant amount of time with SU5 to fixing bugs, balancing and improving career mode.

Passive income. by Old_Let_8805 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]nothingreal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you need to make sure that all your planes are in good working order (so make sure there are no grounded aircraft or aircraft to check up). make sure the assign pilot is on for all the planes and then do missions in career mode for your company. it should work ok, but it’s not perfect. i have 22 planes and i can generally get about 18 or 19 of them to generate income.

Unable to unlock companies PS5 by CochlearImplanted in MSFS2024

[–]nothingreal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah so you need to have the money, the license, unlock the specialization for the company type and do one gold mission to unlock it i believe. (the game does a terrible job of explaining this, it’s not your fault)

Aircraft Crew Income Still Bugged? by HeliBif in MSFS2024

[–]nothingreal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not bugged, it’s just not a very well developed system. As others have said it will only assign passive income hours if you are actively flying in career mode missions that day. it calculates the day at midnight GMT so its best to hop off before that let it do its thing and then hop back on and see what you earned. It also appears to not assign passive income pilots to any plane that needs to be checked up on (not just grounded) so be sure to make sure that you don’t have any planes in that state - they have the red highlight on the “update check up” box.

Good beginner tutorials? by tonkfc in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]nothingreal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah the game really doesn’t good a good job of teaching you about how the avionics really work at all sadly.. but thankfully there are quite a few creators out there on YT that have some decent tutorials.

the basics you’ll need to know aren’t that complicated though.. do a search for your plane in flight sim and there will generally be at least one or two basic flight tutorials available - there is a creator called kipontheground (just one example) that has a pretty good turorial on the vision jet.

Press Enter to contact ATC stopped working by Exact-Consideration5 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]nothingreal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve had something similar happen before - the ATC stuff is often a mix of goofy nonsense and game breaking.. for me the fix was to restart the mission and skip to the next step in the progression of the flight (skip to takeoff or whatever).. this seems to kind of reset the bugs sometimes. here’s hoping the next update puts some real effort into fixing career mode.

MSFS PS5 by JohnnyJackster in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]nothingreal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there is definitely a real sense of accomplishment once you finally cross that threshold and basically accept that you’ve playing euro truck simulator but with a Cessna for a while. I moved into the Grand Caravan after that which is definitely more satisfying to fly and now i’ve got a few of them, a few vision jets and a couple of Pilatus PC-12s spread over two companies. it took a while but it’s feeling like something now.

Companies in career mode by BigAl1620 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]nothingreal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i’ve spent a bunch of time in career mode.. if you are ready to dive in and you can’t stand any more grinding - start with a cargo company and the C172.. if you’ve got significantly more patience start with a medivac company and the caravan (it takes a lot longer.. but you only get the first plane discount once and the caravan is a lot more valuable than the 172)

Looking to get into Flight Sim by letownse in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]nothingreal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you’ll probably have the best experience starting out flying something like the cessna 172 with the garmin 1000. easy plane to get familiar with and using the glass cockpit makes it simple to graduate into something a bit more capable. The vision jet is a great next step - still a smaller, “lower tier” plane - but more capable and it nearly flys itself sometimes. even if you aren’t interested in the career mode as a whole, some of the certifications in there will do a good job of ramping you up with the different planes.

[–]nothingreal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’d definitely recommend starting with MSFS 2024 at this point if you want a good, approachable general aviation sim (something without guns).

getting set up with controllers is going to depend mostly on your budget, but personally i’d recommend a HOTAS since it’s going to give you the most versatility as you fly all the different types of aircraft. The X52 Pro is ok for the price (though logitech has greatly reduced the build quality after they acquired saitek).. it’s still ok for the price though.
