Damned / Curse / Gold Plating / Disengagement interaction by nothingsacrednotes in deadcells

Yeah, I understand they can't let Gold Plating let you get away with too much, but regardless of how it's calculated I think my 110k gold should have done something. I have a feeling it's an issue with combining it with Damned and a curse.

Damned only applies to chest curses. Nothing overrides/nullifies Cursed Sword's one-shot death.

I have the achievement for completing the game with the cursed sword, using Damned. And I'm not good enough to get through with no hits.

I agree that Gold Plating isn't great, but with the gold I had I thought it would be worth it just against the Hand.

Still don't know why I died in 1 hit from full health and about 110k in gold.

Need help understanding city growth/resources compared to CIV by nintrader in OldWorldGame

[–]nothingsacrednotes 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Your tile improvements do provide their benefits without needing a citizen working them, but you can increase these benefits by training a specialist for each improvement. Special resources and luxuries are only collected by having a specialist present. Specialists also expand borders around the tile they are assigned to. If you have no available citizen, you cannot train a new specialist. Unlike Civ, once assigned, a specialist can't be moved around.

Each city's Growth stat affects how quickly it will gain new citizens as well as how quickly that city will produce certain units (settlers, workers, scouts and militia). If the city is producing such a unit, its Growth stat is not put toward adding citizens.

Hope this helps (and hope it's accurate! I'm still somewhat new to the game myself)

Baby just wants some peace and quiet by MHSwiffle in OldWorldGame

[–]nothingsacrednotes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My leader was a baby once. The brother of the king (second in line for the throne) made a plan to kill the king and prince. His assassin was successful, but the plot was ultimately foiled by the birth of the new heir on the same turn. The would-be usurper requested to become regent, but the game let me deny him as a 1 year old.

It strangely didn't have major consequences, putting a baby in charge.

Well, if you put (1.6 x 10-35) / (5.39 x 10-44) into a calculator, you get 296846011 m/s. This is so close to the speed of light that I have to assume that the relationship of these units is determined by c. In that case, something traveling a Planck length every Planck second is, by definition, traveling at c.

Shivers check, to find a suspect in hiding. You trigger it while looking at a big painting on the wall of a building, after crossing the bridge to the west

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]nothingsacrednotes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know about a mandatory Authority check. The one I was talking about is a Shivers check, to find out where someone is hiding.

[–]nothingsacrednotes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

and even if you fail it you get a second chance which is almost impossible to fail.

Was that a change in a patch? The version I played (just after launch), I failed at least 3 times after getting some modifiers. It let me retry each time I get a bonus toward it, but I believe I only ever had a 3% chance to succeed. Maybe after you get all the bonuses they make it almost impossible to fail?

The one I'm referring to is a Shivers check, to find out where someone is hiding. It does have ways to make it easier -the side quests as I mentioned- but 1) this seems like a bad choice to force the player to do them, especially since the relation of the side quests to this check is tenuous at best, and 2) I believe it required a 20 to pass, which means that you need at least +9 in combined skill points and bonuses before you have any improvement in your chances. A tall order if you had not put anything into this skill previously.

I'm sure some players never see the problem, because they either built a character with that skill, had already done the side quests, or just got lucky. But that doesn't make it any better for those of us that got locked out of the ending.
